- Here's a look at the process of how i took an old church pew, and turned it into 2 benches. This project was done in white oak, and stained espresso. Finished using Sutherland Welles U500 floor finish.
About to pick up a bunch of pews for free next week, I’m so excited!!!!
So nice to see this done properly rather than the hack job I saw recently on another channel. Appreciated your attention to details.
haha, thanks man, there are definitely plenty of hack jobs out there. If it's worth doing gotta do it right !
You are a true craftsman! Great video work too!
Man, that is some nice work. I just restified a church pew bench my uncle created for our family dinner table about 50 years ago.
The fun part was reattaching and aligning his hinged seats that he created for storage under the bench.
Titration are an expert wood worker and I so enjoyed your precise work - so very amazing - all the details - one day (maybe) I will get 1/10th as good as you!
You are freaking amazing!!🔥
What great design work. What wonderful craftmanship. Great factory equipment.. We were fortunate to select this company for this project
Beautiful work, I have one in my basement from the previous owners, painted the same as the basement floor. Would love to restore to its former beauty
I do this for a living, resisting and new if your anywhere near central Texas!
Restoration
Cheer~~~a long bench with a back, placed in rows in the main part of some churches to seat the congregation.😊
Ayo this is sick
About to get some free pews and help staining them
Beautiful. I’m closing my barbershop and have an 11 ft oak church pew. Who would I call to donate so they could use it to do what you just did?
Where approx are you located ? I’d be happy to take it off your hands if your close or reach out to fellow craftspeople in other areas I know. If I come up short I’d say post it on Craigslist or leave a note at a local woodworking store !
@@kevinandersondesigns thank you, but I found a craftsman who is happy to take it. Thanks for these wonderful videos. Such amazing talent.
Hello,
My daughter has asked me to make a corner bench for her kitchen using an old church pew. While this project is not a corner seat, I’ve learned some neat things from your video. Great job. By the way, I also like your background music. Who is the artist?
Righteous!!!
very nice, im a follower on IG now on youtube also. regards from germany
hell ya man ! thanks for following along !
You’re the man! Awesome video. Why did you card scrape the finish then go to the rotex? Seems like scraper was unnecessary... but I’ve never used one. Would the finish have clogged too much sand paper?
Thanks Kyle! So you basically nailed it why I used the card scraper. The original finish was layers and layers of Wax, and then someone covered the whole thing in Arm N Seal. So I had this big waxy mess. I used mineral spirits to soften it up a little, and then found scraping off most of the wax to be the most efficient way. The rotex worked great after that ! I did tru to start sanding right off the bat, and even with 60 grit it clogged immediately. Thanks for watching ! and if you ever come up with a better way to strip wax pleaseeeeee let me know lol
Hey sorry man just saw this, Someone had put a bunch of arm N seal on it over the already wax finish. I tried stripping the wax with a bunch of different chemicals first, and even tried melting off with a heat gun, but nothing ended up working better than a card scraper. And yes you're right, the wax just immediately clogs up the sand paper! so unfortunately the card scraper it was !
Very nice video. I recently got a 14 foot long pew and I want to make two with it. How long did it take you? And would you provide a list of the tools you used?
I loved it before you put that brown stain on
Personally I dislike stains in general, but because this was partially a restoration job, the brown stain needed to be used to match other original components.
@@earlethepearle1 absolutely, it wasn't any criticism of your work brother the job you done was first class, I like your video style aswel, no bs or chatter, just getting on with the job in hand
@@adeh503 Much appreciated! I've been hesitant actually to post more because I thought people wanted to be walked through every step on youtube, and I just don't have time for that. This is encouraging to hear, thanks for the feedback !
