  • With a cold camping trip down South planned soon, I took the plunge and bought a cheap diesel heater to test it out. Pretty impressed so far but need to find a fix for the loud clicking diesel pump.

    Just bought it and have been testing it out heating the house it bloody heats up fast👍i can not wait too use it in my RV/5 tent. By the way, they must have insulated my fuel pump because not loud at all or they have repositioned it, got my vevor in july 2024 , live down in melb, works awesome in our winter👍

    Thanks Buck 👍👍we have had 4 different caravans and all of them have been an esky when it’s cold and an oven when it’s hot so it’s not just Chinese ones. As for the noise just remember that it’s no louder than any roof mounted aircon fitted to vans. My mate in Chiltern runs one on his van and absolutely loves it and my son has one for his camper trailer,he was camping in Orange over winter doing building projects for months at a time and reckons that it’s a life saver . Old army story if you’re up for it, the bride goes down to Albury from Darwin in the middle of winter for a course and the SFB running it refused to let them wear jumpers unless everyone wore them. All good for those used to it but the people from Darwin,Townsville and even Brisbane were doing it real hard. She ended up going over to the RAP to get a chit to wear jumpers, the doctor got wind of it and then the commandant got involved 😂😂end of problem. Save travels and we,ll catch up shortly 👁️👁️😎😇🐕‍🦺❤️🙏

    Don't run your exhaust under your trailer for 2 reasons. One the exaust gets hot and can melt your plastic water tanks. The other is the fumes have nowhere to go but up. Which is where you sleep.
    Pull it out a little from the trailer. Maybe 2ft. Turn it 90 degrees so the exaust pipe is pointing towards the back of the trailer and the 3 metre heat pipe is facing the trailer. The heating pipe is flexible so it should be easy to twist it towards Ros's OzTent. You may have to move the heater a little closer to the tent as you shorten how far the heating pipe will reach by turning it. Maybe get a second 3 metre pipe and fit the two together if reach is a real issue. The exaust will have way more space to exaust under the awning then under the trailer. Run the power cord towards Ros's tent then under the table between the crossed table legs closet to the trailer. Then toward the power socket where you are plugging it in at the back of the trailer. To keep it away from the exhaust.
    Once it gets going, it doesn't put out tons of fumes on low so should not cause issues under the awning. I agree with you, it should do all you want on low.
    The metal table you're placing the heater on may be amplifying the ticking. I don't know how to safely fix that. Placing the heater directly on the ground might make a big difference but I can't recommend it. As I don't know if you should be placing it directly on the ground in the first place.
    Be careful about what changes you make to the heater to deal with the ticking. Lots of adhoc solutions look good but are not safe. Getting a professional to switch the pump to a quite or at least quieter pump may be the best solution but not worth the cost. In the end the ticking is something you may have to get used to.
    I agree with you about how much power it draws. Plus you've got a really good power system on that trailer.
    Getting the dampness out of a tent and warming it up inside makes such a difference. Have you thought about buying the carpet tent liner OzTent make for their tents? They help by reducing the amount of ground cold that can get into the tent from underneath and with the dampness inside.
    I think you've made a fantastic choice and I absolutely love the colour!!!❤

    “Diesel heat “ look them up have a pump holder that drop the noise by 80 % . Remember to run the heater full bore for 15 min occasionally otherwise they will carbon up .

    Hi Buck, another great clip. I’m glad you worked out the blue tooth part of it. I’ve got the upright one. It’s a beauty. after doing research online I realise you can buy aftermarket fuel pumps that don’t click as much and it will solve the issue with the clicking for you. Have a great day thanks again, Dave.

    There are loads of guides to making the pump quiet for minimal expenditure. Nothing annoys me more than a repetitive noise like that. There seems to be a “quiet pump” but it’s still making noise just less. Then heaps of “put it in a box with sound deadening” to make it quiet options which do actually work.

    Hey mate bought that exact same heater about a month ago and used it out camping in Central Coast NSW freezing night - works so good into the eagle outback mate just didn’t put enough fuel in (only about a litre) and it ran out about 230am so had to get up and put more in. Still haven’t worked out how to use the Bluetooth but the remote works great

    They are great little heaters I have had both a portable one for a camper trailer and now a installed one in my caravan ( install myself).
    Just a few little mods you should do to them.
    If they have the soft green fuel line replace it with 4mm fuel line from Supercheap.
    Add a inline fuel filter
    And then orientate fule pump on a 15-35 degree angle or it will not lubricant properly.

  • @RustyCandyAdventures
    @RustyCandyAdventures หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Wrap the fuel pump and filter with an old rag. It stops the diesel soaping. Double suspend your fuel pump. You can buy a quiet pump, but i never tried. Next i just use the remote control. I have it mounted on a board with two support bars, fastened in place. I have it outside, but you need a cover to stop rain from coming in the inlet air. Look up John Mck47

    Hey buck from all the research I’ve done on TH-cam the only things to change on the cheap diesel heaters are the ticking fuel pump and the fuel line, the guy I found showed the pump with green on the end is supposed to be the quiet one.

    l modified my diesel heaters,got one in the van and in my garage. l did put wire fly screen on the intake to stop Queenslanders camping inside and stopping the unit from running, The unit on the van l installed on the draw bar with rubber supporting the pump to stop noise, bought longer ducts to go under van and into the van. Used a 20lt jerry can for the diesel which draws from the top with quick release fittngs. Can hardly hear the units pump once the thermostat cuts in,no problem with your a light sleeper. l've been wanting to get one of those Vevor,where abouts do you store it.

    Watch out for condensation.. if you got it running into rooftop tent it will get allot of condensation if you don't have windows open for airflow out.. as its only canvas. Last year I was in killaney in july it dropped to -12 and I was super hot in my rooftop tent.. I had just 2 bamboo winter quilts with fleece covers, and 12v electric blanket.. It was -12 outside, -4 inside my rtt, 20c under my quilts.. Difference between my rooftop tent and the crazy dog canvas one even though mine was made by crazy dog canvas is the canvas I got custom made is the same auscam canvas the Australian defence force use which is 16oz.. the crazy dog canvas canvas is 10oz.. so Mines allot thicker.. when I had it at -12 I had my windows semi open to let any hot air out.. Though now I figured a way to get zero condensation which I have 20mm insulation foam with large holes in it, a anti condensation mat and drilled like 40 holes in bottom of rooftop tent to allow air to flow in and out under the mattress.

      I won't be running the heater in the RTT. It will be in the Oztent and yep I will have a window open. Our van got bad condensation in the mornings as well. Had to wipe the ceiling with a chamois.

    Never use the cig plug. Always an anderson if it works loose all sorts of problems occur if power is suddenly disconnected. Use car body deadener sheet to wrap around the pump. Also some in the inside of the metal cover and fold some over the fuel intake line.

      @Mrbuckaroonie..  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't have anderson plugs to plug into. The jackery does not have them and the camper only has cigarette plugs.

    Ga, day Buck, I think the thermostat is in the front control panel you may have to put the front of the heater in the tent to regulate the temperature I may be wrong with your model? (AS YOU SAY DO NOT RUN EXHAUST INSIDE ) I have been running Chinese heaters for 12 years. 0

    Buck "Do Not" put the exhaust under your camper. You will be sucking in fumes from the heater. Buy an exhaust extention and put it well away from yourself and Ros. Dont want ant Form 4,s on you or Ros. A Tong brand generator box, second hand solves security and noise issues.
