Stumbled upon EV Dave's videos after we bought our Model Y. I really appreciate the real world application and conversation of the videos. Living just a bit north of Dave in VA, I know these roads. Nice to see. Only complaint: you stayed in the left lane the whole time! :-) Keep up the great videos!

Great video brah. Made me laugh the way u said "people in stop n go traffic getting all tired from pressing either gas pedal or brake pedal"
In Ireland here its even worse, most of the cars are manual, so its clutch, brake , accelerator and change gears constantly.. Manual seems so dated now.. Luckily I've owned automatic cars for 10 years now but still no adaptive cruise.. Next car im definitely getting it👍

The beauty is, that this stress relieving functionality comes as standard with the car. It works in the foulest of weathers.

I’m interested too because I lease Tesla’s and the $10K fee makes no economic sense. It’s tied to the vehicle, not owner, like computer software. Subscription service will make sense for leased vehicles if low cost, otherwise forget about it.

save your $10k, it's not worth it. Non-"Autopilot" teslas have adaptive cruise control which is shown in this video. There really isn't an upgrade w/ the $10k. This has been known for quite some time. With the tesla hardware they have now, they will never have full autonomy. They've admitted this is court records btw.

Hi EV Dave, nice video! Just want to ask when you are on AP in slow-moving (or stop-and-go) traffic, do you get many drivers cutting in? Here in Hong Kong, I can't use AP in slow-moving traffic because other drivers will simply use the gap to cut in.
Also, at 6:15, why did you disengage AP to allow the truck in? I'm sure Tesla would have stopped anyway as it senses the truck cutting in?

I use one car spacing this stays close to the car you are following but as we pick up speed I go to two or three car following. I’m always courteous to other drivers especially trucks. Yes AP would have let him in if he forced his way into the lane. Take care

GM has this and so does BMW and Mercedes-Benz, it just basically adaptive cruise control. With the GM version, you don't need to keep your hands on the wheel but you do need to look ahead. Tesla's full Self Driving version will stop at traffic lights and stop signs and should self accelerate once the light is green even if its not following another car.

The main reason for me to get a Tesla was AutoPilot. My experience with AutoPilot for several weeks now with several software updates is that the ride quality isn't as smooth as I would like. It does not pick up on cars getting on the brakes at the front and the car continues at cruise speed until it get to a certain distance and get harder on the brakes than I would like. At other times it would accelerate rather slow to follow the car at front. So, I have not really been using it that much as I would like. I am not sure if there is a "learning period" for the car's computer to adapt or I have to re-calibrate the sensors.

U don’t need to have an EV to enjoy this feature. Nowadays most cars have a smart cruise control where the car stops and go’s depending on the traffic without you putting ur foot on the pedal.
All Tesla’s come with auto pilot.
But if u want FSD (full self driving mode)
U have to fork out an extra ($7,000 I think in US , I’m from Australia, so it’s $10,000 more down here 😔)

I have a new model 3…I recently made a trip from my home near Las Vegas to Durango CO. The car came to a near stop on several occasions for no apparent reason irritating the drivers behind me…once the driver had to swerve to avoid hitting me. I have no confidence in auto pilot. More recently I tried it while driving across a flat desert road with no cross roads or nearby traffic. It suddenly braked to a near stop 3 times for absolutely no reason. I tried to set up a service appointment but they said there was nothing they could do as it was not mechanical and that I would have to wait for a possible update. Not happy.

Some cars will even steer and keep you in the lane as along as there are road markings..

I currently have 2 vehicles that have lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. Our Accord does a pretty good job staying centered but won’t handle sharp curves. The Subaru Ascent’s adaptive cruise control is impressive but lane keep assist is unusable, literally bouncing all over the lane. I test drove a Tesla and it was much much better. I now have a M3 LR on order.

At 5:24 you seem to say you need autopilot to not have to put your foot on the accelerator and the brake. Many modern ICE cars have Adaptive Cruise Control which will manage speed with car in front. Also several have lane keeping technology also. Tesla did not invent this functionality, it just has a nice offering for it.

There is a distinct difference between Autopilot and ACC. The Tesla also has the ACC but you have to maintain control of the car. Although your statement is true, in Autopilot the car will drive for you as long as you are staying alert and have your hand on the wheel. Adaptive Cruise Control you have to do 50% of the work.

After that encounter my confidence in the complete safety of the car was solidified. The car will adjust the speed to safely navigate the curves in the road, but keep in mind you still need to pay attention because sometimes if the car doesn't see the white line on the side of the road it may not navigate it properly.

Today's technology only allows for 'driver-assist systems' which technically you are correct in saying "auto pilot" by being alert in the drivers seat.
