In his defense there wasn’t really anything better in his backpack. I understand the validity of people saying that you should change your equipment to match the enemy but I don’t think this game is well made enough for that to actually be a relevant strategy.
MicoDossun Flexibility is absolutely a strategy. How much unspent money did he have by the end of it? How much is that money could be invested into alternate builds?
There were several factors that led to the Direwolf fight being 'easier' than it should have been with his equipment setup: 1) NL had tons of HP going into the fight. (he luckily had a 10 HP apple in the shop before the fight) 2) NL got poison claw+ several times during the fight and was able to make good use of 5's he rolled. 3) NL didn't roll many 5-6's in the fight. 4) NL played quite well during the fight (not using poison needle or detonator knowing they'd do less damage) Had NL bought either Staff or Nudgeblade before the fight and equipped either, it would have removed the 'bad luck' factor of having turns where all dice were 4-6 value. On the contrary NL had fairly average rolls and escaped 1 turn away from lethal. Not thinking about changing equipment made him lose a run a while back where he was against Cornelius (the guy that does 999 damage) and didn't have enough damage equipment leading to 'bad rolls' and ending his run, whereas if he had taken out some of those defensive equipment and put in some damage ones in his backpack the fight would have been easy. To be fair, most fights you don't need to change equipment (its not that type of game), but foresight while doing potentially the "hardest levels in the game" (episode 4), will lead to less 'bad luck' moments. NL did play pretty well most of today's game but I just felt like pointing out a flaw I saw in his game-play.
