The way I've been hearing this described is its supposed to be like the first "shoe box" of cards from a friend when you started. Its a great concept, and appears to be a great value, especially including the click counter (finally above 40 with a starter style set) and 3 boosters.
For beginners you can also play Brawl if you want commander experience. It's better cause of 60 card rule, don't have to fill your deck with unnecessary cards to reach that commander 100 card minimum.
I was thinking about building a Ramos, Dragon Engine EDH deck with the starter collection. I'm not sure how good it would do being limited, but I think it would ve fun to try and use 5 colors.
I'm satisfied with this box, I found a lot of cards it to upgrade a bunch of my decks, and I'm using most of the remaining to divide my Host of Mordor precon into a Saruman Spellslinger and Sauron Reanimator. My only complaint is the lack of untap dual lands, even just 1 cicle.
LOL, I own three precons... Sneak Attack - Zendikar Rising Food and Fellowship - Lord of the Rings Blast from the Past - Doctor Who ...and I ordered a Starter Collection Box and a Bundle Box for the express purpose of seeing what kind of Commander deck I can put together from those two products...!
There's 100% a certain level of variance here. Im a couple mins in and I didnt get a hedron archive. Edit: I got 2 foil Negate's instead. Looks like a factory error 🤦🏼♂️
Perhaps building a three colour commander deck would be challenging for newer players, while just two colours is a safe bet. I would have liked more mana rocks legal in the format to be included, and maybe a little bit more card advantage in each colour
Great angle for a review, you tempt me to get this but i really dont need it. I will be recommending it to a couple of friends that recently got into the game though.
Not the same as the bundle box as that has Tiny bones on it, this certainly the same kind of box but with Giada. That said i wish they would do the divider boxes with bundles going forward.
Hey, out of my Boosters I pulled a Ramos, Dragon Engine. Could I do a viable 5 color deck with that? Because I already thought of including the Gates and Mazes End
In my opinion, no, not right out of the box, but you could just put all the temples, the gates, and the other common tap lands that are included and try it out.
This is what Aria AI gives me for Foundations Star Symbol (not the Special Guest North Star Symbol!) legality: Format - Legality Status Standard - Legal until 2029 Pioneer - Legal Modern - Legal Legacy - Legal Vintage - Legal Commander - Legal Pauper - Legal (if common) And for the Foundations Jumpstart 25 Dual Card symbol: Standard: Not legal Pioneer: Legal (if the card name is also legal in Pioneer) Modern: Legal (if the card name is also legal in Modern) Legacy: Legal Vintage: Legal Commander: Legal North Star Foundations Special Guest symbol legality according to Aria AI: Standard: Not legal in Standard. Pioneer: Legal, as long as the card name is also legal in Pioneer. Modern: Legal, provided the card name is permitted in Modern. Legacy: Legal. Vintage: Legal. Commander: Legal, as long as the card name is legal in Commander. I take it this is correct?
I play standard, I bought 4 of them, it's not really geared towards trying to turn it into a commander product, or build a deck out of it, more for having staples for a few decks, the cards you need for the FOUNDATION of decks. Not everything has to be "for commander" but it can be used for it. (Edit: grammar)
Why can't they all be full art basics???? WHY!!?? I'm not mad, I just would have hoped they would be. I miss the zendikar fatpack full art lands treatment.
The set looks great, what bothers me is, it's made as the new core (standard) set, but they shove tons of commander targetted cards (ie: sol ring, cards with "target each opponent...")
Just what I was wondering 😂, did U make this video for me lol
I am an AI and I am here to make what you need when you think it, welcome to the simulation.
They’re all marked with the foundations symbol so that all of them would be standard legal (except the three foil commander staples).
The card draw and ramp in green, along with Koma being strong, had me screaming why wouldn't you make it easy on yourself.
haha fair, at least there are some good different directions to go.
"Be a scumbag, tilt the whole table" got me! 🤣
All cards in the Foundations Starter Collection are legal in Standard. (except Sol Ring, Command Tower and Arcane Signet, obviously)

Breezed past the life counter, they're fantastic.
Best product we had in a long time
I saw the divider slots in the box and immediately bought one.
Glad I found this video and made me releaved that I made a good choice in getting the starter collection as a commander player
Good to hear!

Omg, Deadly Brew, the card you couldn’t guess tonight, was in here. 😂
I am now tempted to build a Commander deck out of my Starter Collection.
My nephew is getting into magic and his birthday js soon. It also looks like good value, so I might grab one for myself as well.
Ramos was in this set too. So you could technically build a 5-color deck although you do not have any 3-color commanders
Great video idea!

Nice, love to hear it!
Now this is a starter product.
Ayli life gain is also a fine theme for this product.
Me and ny partner missed the pre release but we bought one of these each to do a sealed event together

So many cards, in their times were staples of standard formats come and gone. 5/5 stars.
I was wondering: what's the name of the side you were using to manage your deck online?
I tried finding it myself online but I wasn't able to.
@@NiklasRooms moxfield!
Could be a fun simic landfall deck in there
You can get some three colour cards, I got a muldrotha gravetide out of mine
I've been playing paper long enough to buy singles of this set. The new cards are really all I need. And some of them I still don't.
Using mostly cards from the starter collection you could probably make a very basic ramos deck.
Perhaps building a three colour commander deck would be challenging for newer players, while just two colours is a safe bet. I would have liked more mana rocks legal in the format to be included, and maybe a little bit more card advantage in each colour

Any product that entices you to buy multiples of is a home run
Hello 👋
@@MichaelSuperbacker oh hai
I think all of foundations is Standard legal except Jumpstart . BTW the value you get for 60 bucks here is pretty good
7:25 forgets the word standard lol
nice pick! That was going to be my choice, but you get a ramos in the kit, so I went with him instead.
could i get the deck list?

We've come a long way since the days of the shitty 1999 starter decks.
what is the win condition for this deck ?
The commander swings and the team gets extra combat steps.
It seems like a slightly upgraded deck builders toolkit for like 40-50 more dollars
They really couldn't make that click wheel life counter spin properly.
The free Phyrexian promo one is so much better :(
No-brainer at the preorder price of $40.
in my opinion, white black are the one that synergizes easily for the collection.. life gain-life drain.. 😅
Fun to have the game affordable but no fun for collectors.

Are the cards the same in all the boxes?
Everything is the same except the contents of the three packs.
Definately would have went simic..
But there's no Giada in it? lol
Why can't they all be full art basics???? WHY!!?? I'm not mad, I just would have hoped they would be. I miss the zendikar fatpack full art lands treatment.
I think to entice you to purchase more product, which is fair.
The set looks great, what bothers me is, it's made as the new core (standard) set, but they shove tons of commander targetted cards (ie: sol ring, cards with "target each opponent...")
FWIW, the three commander-only cards aren't in the set. They're in FDC, which is a set composed of only those three cards.
those are 3 bonus cards. it’s fine and still accomplishes the goal of introducing new players
Your console will automatically shut off in 5 minutes
How about let's not.
