I’m so happy wizards made this starter box. 20-30$ for so many possible deck building combinations will be able to make such an amazing experience for new players.
I'm just starting with MTG now and bought both products and I'm very happy . The beginner box gives some options to have fun for a couple of hours by mixing these 'jumpstarts', and the starter collections gives you plenty of cards to try and build some more decks. Really great products, I think.
They are great for new players, starting trying some fun and basic decks and then trying to build ur own is a great experience for entry, what u are saying its for more experienced players searching to compete, starting like that removes some early unic moments with the game that i think are pretty much ideal for anyone
Just remember that not all cards in the jumpstart decks are legal in for example standard (kind of ironic). So use something like Archidekt or Mtg goldfish to build, experiment and see the legalities. And welcome to this awesome hobby!😁
@@erikdahlgren6656 they are different jumpstarts. These decks don't have cards from jumpstart-boosters. They all have the standard Foundation edition symbol. Quite confusing they also used the term 'jumpstart' for these decks.
The beginner’s box cat and vampire decks are ordered in a way that makes the booklet a physical tutorial with a play by play for each side to teach the game. Not much value in it, but good for learners. The starter collection actually has some value in it along with the box and spinner. I’d be interested to hear your evaluation of the bundle vs a play booster box. ❤
@@TheWarden04 The tutorial decks are vampires and cats, the jumpstart decks are healing, pirates, wizards, undead, goblins, inferno, elves and primal. It's a fixed set, same for every box.
wait... do you mean this is meant to be played as the game it is and not hoarded by greedy little card goblins and stored away in pallets un opened for 5 decades? wild concept.
Im kinda suprised that Wotc finally created such a great beginner product again after ages. Now there is something that I can suggest for friends who want to begin
As someone how only played MTG arena and finally decided to get physical cards, starter collection is on hell of a deal. I didn’t look into too much before buying it and it allowed me to make two decks right off the bat but I’ll still be buying some singles to round out the decks
This is exactly where I am at. Playing arena for free, and seeing cards I recognise and have played in the starter collection is awesome to help me feel confident that I'm not going to be totally lost in paper games! Starter collection + some dice, a deck box and sleeves would easily give anyone the tools to play without bankrupting them. Particularly in the run up to christmas, Foundation is the perfect name for this set. Cant wait to see more people like me starting out.
Just started MTG about 3 months ago and I', happy I found your channel! No one is running giveaways like this so thank you for being of the first I have seen!
I love that they’re doing this set and the beginner box in particular. New players are necessary for the health of games and Magic can be unreasonably obtuse for new players. So many of my friends have just bounced right off of it because it’s so complex. This is a huge boon for anyone interested but feeling overwhelmed or daunted.
This is the video I needed. No one has been doing comparisons like this for people like me who are lapsed players that wanna start again with their kids. THANK YOU!
Starter collection is great. I ordered mine before the set spoilers, solely for the life tracker. Nice to see the cards have value and the tracker is solidly built, especially after my glow in the dark spindown from the nightmare bundle doesn't glow in the dark (it has none of the glowly plastic bits, just solid non-glow).
Well now that I have seen what’s in the starter collection I’m going to go pick one up. I’ve only been playing 2 months it’s perfect for me. Thank you for your content. Keep up the great work
Thank you for doing a comparison of both! me and a friend have been discussing whether we want the beginner or starter boxes with foundations, I think we're both thinking the starter collection now but glad to see a fair comparison between both and to highlight whats inside each, the WotC site has made it pretty confusing to keep track of, so again, thank you very much for doing this! Very clear, concise, and super helpful
Love the starter collection, it's not only because of the Gigantosaurus reprint, but the over solid cards in it made the thing a very good base ground for new and somewhat new players. I as a somewhat well versed player just had a blast opening it and am trying to built a deck from scratch using it, and man does it bring back memories 😂
I was just taught how to play Magic The Gathering last night by my board game friends. They let me choose a welcome deck to try, I chose the green/black deck and I really enjoyed it. I was looking for a video to know more about Magic and am really glad to watch your video. Great content and looking forward to more of your videos!
The starter collection is actually a nice gift for someones birthday or another event, a decent amount of cards to build decks, and some of them are kinda nice. Plus 3 play boosters.
It seems like you'd want the beginner box and then when you've exhausted the jump start combos you'd go and buy the starter collection and that would last you a long time exploring.
Just got into MTG and I’m absolutely loving your videos! 🔥 Watching you crack open those boosters is so satisfying, I think I’m catching the booster addiction bug too 😅. Keep up the great work!
as someone who hasn't played or been tapped into the hobby since oath of the gatewatch, these products seem like an excellent way to finally get back in and im very excited! also love the coin giveaway it's very fun and interactive!!
I'm absolutely in love with both products! The beginner box is the perfect thing I was looking for to teach a couple of guys how to play...and the starter collection? Amazing!
I been seeing my brothers playing magic since i was 2 years old and i always wondered how this works, i absolutely love it, now in my 25 years old i want to try and buy something to start playing, looks so fun. Awesome video
Very nice video. I really like the variety that they’re offering new and old players with this set. It’s also pretty cool that they’re keeping this in standard for 5 years to really give us a chance to experience the set and how it interacts with some of the newer sets they’ll be bringing over the years.
Thank you for the insightful video! I recently got back into MTG after almost 20 years and have been catching up on so much. I've also been teaching my Fiancée how to play and the starter collection looks like the perfect way for her to get into it and learn deck building :)
Im so happy someone finally did a comparison video! I think I’ll be getting both. I’ve bought a bunch of pre on decks because I like collecting cards but now I actually want to learn how to play.
Glad to get a proper look into the beginner box. Didn’t think there was too much value but was interested to see if there was as someone who started this year!
Got myself the starter collection and i was extremely pleased with the cards in it. The 3 boosters are the icing on the cake (was lucky enough to have 3 mythics and 3 rares for around 35€ in value). Great video, keep it up
Claiming my first coin! First time watching your videos. I just recently got into magic for the first time this month. Pretty awesome community so far.
I've decided to buy a starter collection to teach my kids. it's been decades since i've played paper magic. I'll be buying some bulk once my kids get hooked. thanks for the review.
I'm only a few months into the hobby, and bought both products. Definitely think the collection is strictly better - but the beginner box is, i would say, technically worthwhile - especially if you consider card quantity vs buying packs (and the jumpstart decks are fun anyways, i got a game out of them). The collection though is incredibly worthwhile - I built a blue/red commander deck out of strictly only things in the box, and it comes with more than enough lands and commander staples to do so (sol ring, command tower, arcane signet). I'm rather pleased with it. Legitimately the only problem I have is that to organize the stuff in the box, you need a larger box - otherwise there's simply not enough space in each section to categorize by color, and theres also not enough sections to combine multiple sections to create the space. But "too much stuff" is quite an issue to have, lol
Those were both fun looking boxes. I can see the first one being used as a party game where you mix it up each time you play. Then the second box looks absolutely great, especially all the foils
The collection’s gonna be a good early birthday gift for me! As a relatively new player, this thing’s got a ton of value for me and I can use it to build a ton of decks!
I started playing Magic around Thunder Junction, played a little bit of standard, unfortunately my first commander deck was the MH3 Eldrazi precon. I enjoyed playing the deck but have since been playing other precons/making my own decks. This set really helps me broaden my own card pool that I don’t have to spend on

These products "appear" to be great to new players but you're much better off just building a trying out decks online then buying those cards.
