Drumeo I really admire his approach to playing relaxed. i have struggled with that for so long that my hands and feet freeze up or lock doing faster or challenging drum parts.
I honestly can't name a favourite part - the whole thing is great - he is so easy to listen to - full of knowledge, humble, articulate and funny! His kits always sound amazing...because he's playing them!
I love his approach to "sounding good". A lot of the fancy playing does sound nice, but he puts an emphasis on making clean and concise choices. Playing relaxed gave him the options of sound on the triplets. He's increasing his arsenal without adding in a fancy groove or flourish.

My old drum shop had Todd for a clinic. It was regarded as one of the best we ever had and we had Gadd, Chambers, Weckl, Donati, Zoro, Bozzio, Kennedy, Emory, Hernandez, Clark and more. We took him out for food and drinks and had a great time. Super nice guy! He's an amazing musician and has great things to say.
His closing statement about how "we'd never be shooting and bombing and killing each other if we all did this"... Was just so powerful. With all the shit going on these days, that spoke to me. Every little tip he gave throughout the lesson was better than the last, and that last bit felt like he could see me through the computer screen and we were having a conversation one-on-one. It's Todd. Every word out of his mouth is either hilarious, or inspiring, and his sound, power, fluidity, and nuance is beyond all of us. His knowledge is ridiculous, and this is by far my favorite Drumeo video to come out. Having said all that, the main thing I focused on? The bass drum patch his pedals are hitting looks like a smiley face. It's all I can see right now.

My favorite part has to be Todd's discussion of making the kit work within the room he tracked. It is so counter-intuitive to do such a thing as playing softer to get a bigger drum sound. It just shows that our ears are one of the greatest tools we have!
Loved today's format!!! I have been to Todd's clinics, watched TH-cam videos, watched his DVDs, been to his concerts... BUT HOW NICE just to have a chat with Todd!!! Totally felt like I was part of this interview and I was not even there! Just a nice balance of talking, teacher and then playing versus some shows that just have the clinicians playing the kit for 80% of the time. REALLY Enjoyed this one! WOW! Todd is a wealth of information and style and drive! He told us once, at a drum co-op, "everyone there wants you to play well". I played my first gig EVER in January of this year and that is the thought that was going through my head before our show. The set was good. Drums sounded good and it was FUN! This was one of THE most informative drumming videos I've ever seen. My favorite is when he discussed how to hit the drums and showing multiple ways of getting a sound out of a drum. Too many drummers today don't think at all about mixing themselves internally as they are playing. But his closing statement is beyond SPOT on!!!
I had a chance of catching Todd's drum clinic at Saskatoon about 5 to 6 years ago when his first DVD came out, and I remember being mind blown by his control on the drum and sound he was able to get. Especially with the control of his left foot on his hi hat. I remember walking up to him and trying to compliment his left foot technique and sounding absolute idiot because I don't think I fully understood why I was so blown away by it that night. Watching this video has brought me back to that night and I remember now. Todd can groove with simply his feet. if you listen to the ending songo ish solo part without any of the tom parts or the cymbals he was hitting, you're still bound to wanna dance to it. It's drench in soooo much groove gravy. Doesn't matter if he's half opening them, doing a sizzling thing, or closing them sharp and crisp, they're always perfect and fits amazingly with what his hands are doing. the fact that, after all these years, I'm still memorize by the same thing is unreal. there are a couple more things that I love about this video 1. I taught 5 hours of drums today and I've covered like 95% of what Todd talk about in this video today in my lessons. I have never watched his DVDs, so thank you Mr. Sucherman for somehow imprinting quite a few of those ideas into me within one night of drum clinic. 2. If you show your friend the 1st progressive rock track, and the 2nd lazy chill track, and tell them that it's the same drummer playing, there's a big chance that your friend is going to call Bullshit on you. And that to me is the drummer that I'm aspiring to be. To play so convincingly no matter what music. It's fucking mind blowing 3.Todd's answer to what to do when you feel down , or lazy with practicing also what i tend to do. I find myself getting inspire from going live shows, or more often , just from watching Drumeo videos, especially the one with Mark Kelso. This one is gonna be a new favourite, to remind me of basic things sometimes I may forget sorry for the essay, but I'm just gonna leave with something that I think is funny as an ending someone in Saskatoon has been trying to sell Todd Sucherman signature Snare for 2000 dollars on kijiji for over a year. I haven't seen that Ad in a couple months, I wonder if someone bought it, or the seller just gave up

I already own "Methods and Mechanics" 1 and 2 as everyone should. This comment will not be chosen and is not intended to be the best but what I enjoyed most about the lesson was Todd's closing statement - "We would never be shooting and bombing and killing each other if everyone in the world did this - so keep it up" He's so very gracious and that's is so true! Being a huge Dunnett fan I also thought it was very cool when Todd put the Titanium snare on the kit.....sounded incredible as always! Thank you to Drumeo and Todd! This was very special!
Yeah, my Dunnett Titanium is my go-to drum...I don’t do many sessions any more, but back in the day I would often use the Ti in place of a maple snare...it has the warmth of wood, with the projection of metal...engineers and artists loved it! Not a cheap drum, but well worth the money
Professor Sucherman! Todd's unlimited wealth of knowledge and drumming faculty is astounding given his years! For most of us to get to this level it would take at least 5 lifetimes! I don't feel he's recognized as he should be. Truly on an entirely elite level!
I come back to the video about once every two or three months. It just brings me back to basics; and, I find myself making small adjustments to my playing every time I watch it. The shank-tip is a life-saver and it sounds SO much better, regardless of speed. And, balance---when I first saw this video several years ago, I immediately became conscious of my overall balance and immediately improved my drumming 100% overnight---literally. And you'll know when you achieve that balance. When it's sound-check time, and after you get through each drum and the sound guy finally tells you, "Okay, give me the whole kit," and you hit that kick and snare and his head starts bobbing, and everyone in the joint stops what they're doing and briefly turn and look at your sound-check, you know you've got balance. Todd is a wonderful teacher and clinician. One cannot help but improve with every video you watch. His DRUMEO Rock Masterclass is excellent.
This has to be my hands-down favorite Drumeo video so far. First of all, thank you for being the premier drumming juncture on the planet in sharing so much drum knowledge and love for the craft with the world, and utilizing your resources with us. It's one of the true highlights of modern technology and what I think it's highest intent is aiming for. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but Todd touches on so many things typically either not covered, or not covered enough. I don't mean it in a demeaning or diminishing capacity because the time the artist has to cover as much as possible usually won't allow for some of the lesser sought out information from the industry greats, and I think we all agree Mr. Sucherman more than qualifies in that area. If there is music and drumming alone that hasn't\doesn't bring out all of your emotions then you're most likely simply not allowing it to. The thing I wonder about when I see\hear him play is exactly what he touched on. The technique in execution that encompasses the relaxation coupled with height and drum\cymbal\percussion displacement is exactly what I have wondered about and what his idea of fundamental necessities include. Head tension, micing techniques, ideas for keeping the flame internally and eternally lit, practice ideas, body alignment, physical mechanics, mental aptitude, the value in bonding with other drummers, the necessary level of commitment to your pursuits, and the five things he closes with that all musicians should embrace. As inspirational a video as I've seen anyone put out on here. Thanks gentlemen!
I loved how Todd focused on feel and dynamic mixing. You can play the same beat a thousand different ways. He was also able to concisely link techniques and their subsequent natural dymamics.
The best drumeo lesson I have seen, hands down. Top top guy and an amazing drummer. My favourite part was "if it works for what you want to do, then who can tell you it's wrong" the sound is everything.
What a great lesson! It is really inspiring to hear a guy such as Tod speak so openly about what it takes to become a great drummer. His wisdom, his insights, his visions... I've been drumming for many years now, seen many videos about this art, and this is, without a doubt, one of the best i've seen! I've been playing all my life and continue to learn that most of my limitations come from forging ahead with what is "right" rather than embracing the spirit of the lesson and making it my own. The best part of this lesson( which by the way has got to be hands-down the best lesson I've seen on TH-cam ) for me is the reminder to realize how lucky we are to be musicians and to always play with that sense of gratitude and joy because that's what's going to make someone else pick up an instrument and experience that same joy. Certantly his closing estatement at 1:07:10 hit the ball right out of the park. Indeed so many people (including myself) lose the focus with various distractions and that keeps them from achieveing their goals. Best part of the lesson is the reminder of a simple truth, "put in the time...don't let the distractions of modern life get in the way." I love this guy. He's a drummer, a poet, a philosopher...and an inspiration. I listen to him constantly. Have never met but have never had a better instructor. Thank you, so much, for bringing this to us all, Drumeo. I'll never be anywhere near as good as guys like Todd, and Gadd, and so many others...but I love trying.
As a soon to be 68 year old drummer, I really loved to hear Todd's comments, and because of my taking the time to listen to the entirety of this episode, I began to become rather contemplative - I so much love music and drums - when listening to Todd's music after the snare change, the nostalgia was breathtaking! Todd's really pretty darn good, and he expresses that which he speaks to, bringing "light traveling with his music!" I have not ever played with the like of Styx, or possibly any of those you guys have played with, but my favorite musicians have always been the very best I have ever heard, since I bought my first traps kit in 1969, at 19 years of age. With about 4 years of "playing the kitchen table," before that time, my life has been a possibly rare form of genetics - my Dad was a snare drummer with a marching band when he was much younger, and he played the kitchen table too, and very probably seeing him do this, led to my percussion learning. I find I have learned the most simply from learning by ear, but of course thereafter, being able to apply it to the drums when you're behind them with lotsa practice, and loving every moment of that practice-time, whether alone, or with your group-members. I have never had a drum lesson in my life, but was always confident I knew what I was doing, and BTW, the last full-time gig I had was over 20 years ago, winning those sticks for the 2 year gig with a 33 piece Jazz ensemble, and although I was incredibly humbled by that initial experience, I was confident throughout, and I got the job. I know the truth of a good deal of Todd's inspirational thoughts, a I have lived life as he instructs his students. Hey, Todd: I have never been "one of those guys," you spoke about, as I have understood the idea of selling the music as a completed product, with whomever I have played! A drummer is a fine occupation, and because still in good physical shape still apply that which I have learned to the sticks and love to play anywhere at anytime! Keep learning, and you do not need your sticks in your hands until you practice that which you have heard and liked the sound of! Thanks Drumeo: you are great for the drum-lover musician in us all.
I have played drums for years and years. I had never heard of Todd Sucherman before this lesson. He has quickly become one of my favorite drummers. Just an incredible talent! I love the way he teaches. I bought his Mechanics DVD because of this lesson. You guys at Drumeo are doing a great job bringing in these great drummers! Thanks Todd! Loved the phenomenal musical solo at the end!
I love how Sucherman describes how some drummers focus on the wrong things, such as simply learning new techniques when instead the foundations have not been really drilled in, and how he breaks down basic techniques to ensure we are all doing it right! Thanks Drumeo!

Sucherman is my favorite guy to listen to while he teaches on your channel, he's not my favorite drummer of all time, but is still one of my favorites. He's so seasoned! His experience and the value of what his says just shows how much of a natural born musician and teacher he really is.
Wow. Just wow. As a person who prides himself on being well versed in general music knowledge, it amazes me how much I don't know when Drumeo exposes me to this kind of talent. If I were to lose both my arms tomorrow, I would still be grateful for my lifetime membership to Drumeo just to have this exposure. I'm curious how the sponsorship works for each artist as far as gear and personal setups are concerned. Todd mentioned that Pearl shipped this kit out - I assume it all goes back after? I think a tour of Drumeo's gear room/warehouse would be pretty cool!

Is there any chance you can ask Dennis Chambers how he practices coordination and get him to demonstrate? He does this crazy thing in his solos sometimes where he'll play an ostinato and then do singles between his free hand and foot and speed it up while still keeping the ostinato at the original tempo. Im a guitarist and vocalist but was so inspired by Todd, I haven't picked up the sticks since i was a child and I'm now shopping for a drum kit. I hope to have it this month. Thanks my Friend! I can't tell what is my favourite part because there are so much of them! Todd is one of the most "deep" characters in drumming cause his awareness and knowledge of the job has so many aspects (mixing from ground zero, drum sound, relaxing, 5 rules and many more). Many drummers focus on only one thing they master, Todd focuses on many. Re-ignites my passion!
his cymbal choices are amazing so musical seams to melt and blend perfectly into the tracks he plays. i would love to know how to choose my cymbals so they sound as musicaly pleasing as that

I've finally realised what is the "science" behind the groove that makes you bang your head. I wasn't used to make such a big dynamic difference among my limbs, but it is obviously very needed. It is unbelievable how tiny details make music and drumming great. Thank you Mr. Sucherman for the pieces of advice, this is one of the best drumlessons I've ever watched. What people might not think about is that this lesson can be relate-able with, not only if you're a jazz fusion or traditional rock to prog drummer, this can also be related with punk to extreme metal. Meaning the hand technique, equipment placement and playing diversity effects even the players who drum 250 beats per minute especially with progressive/ experimental metal (Richardson/ Haake). Just because the music is known for cymbal bashing doesn't mean it fits universally everywhere.
Todd is an amazing master, but he's so good it makes me feel like throwing away my drums, because I don't think I'll ever be that good. It's like climbing Mount Everest and he's already gone to the top a dozen times and done it all. I'll keep playing no doubt, but these videos are just insane...
Man work on your technique,sticking patterns,bass drum exercises,play along to a lot of songs. Practice like it's all you have and give yourself completely to the craft. You can cultivate talent,but you need to quot comparing yourself to advanced musicians. I've been playing almost 30 years now and I've come a long way. I am more now as a musician than I ever thought I would be and if I never made another dime playing drums every moment of practice all the money I've spent on gear,it's all been worth it. I am satisfied with the result of all the hard work. There were road blocks and many times where I felt faded or as if I wasn't getting better,still I practiced. Never give up my friend it's totally worth it.
@@johnsound6107 If I had the opportunity to become a career musician like Todd, then I could probably get really good like that, but that life wasn’t in the cards for me, (and not from a lack of trying) so it’s never gonna happen and sometimes that’s ok and sometimes it’s a real bummer. One of my all-time fave educators, Todd is the consummate performer and can break down what he is performing in such a way that the seasoned pro gets it as well as the limited beginner. I've been playing 17 years, and have a degree in percussion from one of the best musc schools in the US. I'm 2/3 through this lesson and have my mind blown just by what would otherwise be seen as small simple things
I'm an amateur drummer as well as a young musician and I know about these things like dynamics and the different energy levels of the music but not how to implement them while behind the drums. This lesson blew my mind. This is my favourite lesson no others come close to this no offense Lol. Todd Sucherman is my favourite teacher. Keep doing what you are doing sir and I look forward to seeing you here again and to hopefully seeing you in real life sometimes. The second to last song near to the end was amazing and that was my favourite part.

Todd is quickly becoming my new favorite drummer. Never really followed him until now. Being a traditional grip player myself, I'm finding new inspiration. The opening song completely blew me away, and was my favorite part of the video. His drums sound utterly fantastic. Some of the best sounding drums I've heard yet. My mind is blown. Awesome, just awesome!
It's an incredible tune. Do you remember when Stone Temple Pilots did Talk Show 8n 1997, with Dave Coutts on vocals? It reminds me a lot of some of the softer songs on that album, like Wash Me Down, and Fill The Fields. He's my all time favorite singer... They wrote a song called Saturday, but never recorded it. They recorded it when they got back with Scott, and called it Glide. Earlier this year, Dave released Saturday, and I'm drumming on it! Sucherman is a freaking super hero. People seem to be noticing him a lot more now (thankfully) because of social media etc. He’s got it all, in the way that cats like Brechtlein do. Time, touch, feel..GRoOVE! What I love about his chops is how easy and natural they come out and within the context of a SONG!

I really enjoyed this lesson! I never fully realized that how you play can effect the atmosphere in a live scenario or recording. Really motivates me to try to play differently on my drums than just playing loud.

I love his approach to "sounding good". A lot of the fancy playing does sound nice, but he puts an emphasis on making clean and concise choices. Playing relaxed gave him the options of sound on the triplets. He's increasing his arsenal without adding in a fancy groove or flourish.

My old drum shop had Todd for a clinic. It was regarded as one of the best we ever had and we had Gadd, Chambers, Weckl, Donati, Zoro, Bozzio, Kennedy, Emory, Hernandez, Clark and more. We took him out for food and drinks and had a great time. Super nice guy! He's an amazing musician and has great things to say.
His closing statement about how "we'd never be shooting and bombing and killing each other if we all did this"... Was just so powerful. With all the shit going on these days, that spoke to me. Every little tip he gave throughout the lesson was better than the last, and that last bit felt like he could see me through the computer screen and we were having a conversation one-on-one. It's Todd. Every word out of his mouth is either hilarious, or inspiring, and his sound, power, fluidity, and nuance is beyond all of us. His knowledge is ridiculous, and this is by far my favorite Drumeo video to come out. Having said all that, the main thing I focused on? The bass drum patch his pedals are hitting looks like a smiley face. It's all I can see right now.

My favorite part has to be Todd's discussion of making the kit work within the room he tracked. It is so counter-intuitive to do such a thing as playing softer to get a bigger drum sound. It just shows that our ears are one of the greatest tools we have!
Loved today's format!!! I have been to Todd's clinics, watched TH-cam videos, watched his DVDs, been to his concerts... BUT HOW NICE just to have a chat with Todd!!! Totally felt like I was part of this interview and I was not even there! Just a nice balance of talking, teacher and then playing versus some shows that just have the clinicians playing the kit for 80% of the time. REALLY Enjoyed this one! This was one of THE most informative drumming videos I've ever seen. My favorite is when he discussed how to hit the drums and showing multiple ways of getting a sound out of a drum. Too many drummers today don't think at all about mixing themselves internally as they are playing. But his closing statement is beyond SPOT on!!!
I had a chance of catching Todd's drum clinic at Saskatoon about 5 to 6 years ago when his first DVD came out, and I remember being mind blown by his control on the drum and sound he was able to get. Especially with the control of his left foot on his hi hat. I remember walking up to him and trying to compliment his left foot technique and sounding absolute idiot because I don't think I fully understood why I was so blown away by it that night. Watching this video has brought me back to that night and I remember now. Todd can groove with simply his feet. if you listen to the ending songo ish solo part without any of the tom parts or the cymbals he was hitting, you're still bound to wanna dance to it. It's drench in soooo much groove gravy. Doesn't matter if he's half opening them, doing a sizzling thing, or closing them sharp and crisp, they're always perfect and fits amazingly with what his hands are doing. the fact that, after all these years, I'm still memorize by the same thing is unreal.
there are a couple more things that I love about this video
1. I taught 5 hours of drums today and I've covered like 95% of what Todd talk about in this video today in my lessons. I have never watched his DVDs, so thank you Mr. Sucherman for somehow imprinting quite a few of those ideas into me within one night of drum clinic.
2. If you show your friend the 1st progressive rock track, and the 2nd lazy chill track, and tell them that it's the same drummer playing, there's a big chance that your friend is going to call Bullshit on you. And that to me is the drummer that I'm aspiring to be. To play so convincingly no matter what music. It's fucking mind blowing
3.Todd's answer to what to do when you feel down , or lazy with practicing also what i tend to do. I find myself getting inspire from going live shows, or more often , just from watching Drumeo videos, especially the one with Mark Kelso. This one is gonna be a new favourite, to remind me of basic things sometimes I may forget

I already own "Methods and Mechanics" 1 and 2 as everyone should. This comment will not be chosen and is not intended to be the best but what I enjoyed most about the lesson was Todd's closing statement - "We would never be shooting and bombing and killing each other if everyone in the world did this - so keep it up" He's so very gracious and that's is so true! Yeah, my Dunnett Titanium is my go-to drum...I don’t do many sessions any more, but back in the day I would often use the Ti in place of a maple snare...it has the warmth of wood, with the projection of metal...engineers and artists loved it! Not a cheap drum, but well worth the money

Professor Sucherman! Todd's unlimited wealth of knowledge and drumming faculty is astounding given his years! For most of us to get to this level it would take at least 5 lifetimes! I don't feel he's recognized as he should be. Truly on an entirely elite level!
I come back to the video about once every two or three months. It just brings me back to basics; and, I find myself making small adjustments to my playing every time I watch it. The shank-tip is a life-saver and it sounds SO much better, regardless of speed. And, balance---when I first saw this video several years ago, I immediately became conscious of my overall balance and immediately improved my drumming 100% overnight---literally. And you'll know when you achieve that balance. When it's sound-check time, and after you get through each drum and the sound guy finally tells you, "Okay, give me the whole kit," and you hit that kick and snare and his head starts bobbing, and everyone in the joint stops what they're doing and briefly turn and look at your sound-check, you know you've got balance. Todd is a wonderful teacher and clinician. One cannot help but improve with every video you watch. His DRUMEO Rock Masterclass is excellent.
My favourite was seeing Todd be 100% coherent with what he taught in the gorgeous end solo. His 5 closing statements were also brilliant!
This has to be my hands-down favorite Drumeo video so far. First of all, thank you for being the premier drumming juncture on the planet in sharing so much drum knowledge and love for the craft with the world, and utilizing your resources with us. It's one of the true highlights of modern technology and what I think it's highest intent is aiming for. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but Todd touches on so many things typically either not covered, or not covered enough. I don't mean it in a demeaning or diminishing capacity because the time the artist has to cover as much as possible usually won't allow for some of the lesser sought out information from the industry greats, and I think we all agree Mr. Sucherman more than qualifies in that area. If there is music and drumming alone that hasn't\doesn't bring out all of your emotions then you're most likely simply not allowing it to. The thing I wonder about when I see\hear him play is exactly what he touched on. The technique in execution that encompasses the relaxation coupled with height and drum\cymbal\percussion displacement is exactly what I have wondered about and what his idea of fundamental necessities include. Head tension, micing techniques, ideas for keeping the flame internally and eternally lit, practice ideas, body alignment, physical mechanics, mental aptitude, the value in bonding with other drummers, the necessary level of commitment to your pursuits, and the five things he closes with that all musicians should embrace. As inspirational a video as I've seen anyone put out on here. Thanks gentlemen!

As a soon to be 68 year old drummer, I really loved to hear Todd's comments, and because of my taking the time to listen to the entirety of this episode, I began to become rather contemplative - I so much love music and drums - when listening to Todd's music after the snare change, the nostalgia was breathtaking! Todd's really pretty darn good, and he expresses that which he speaks to, bringing "light traveling with his music!"
I have not ever played with the like of Styx, or possibly any of those you guys have played with, but my favorite musicians have always been the very best I have ever heard, since I bought my first traps kit in 1969, at 19 years of age. With about 4 years of "playing the kitchen table," before that time, my life has been a possibly rare form of genetics - my Dad was a snare drummer with a marching band when he was much younger, and he played the kitchen table too, and very probably seeing him do this, led to my percussion learning. I find I have learned the most simply from learning by ear, but of course thereafter, being able to apply it to the drums when you're behind them with lotsa practice, and loving every moment of that practice-time, whether alone, or with your group-members. I have never had a drum lesson in my life, but was always confident I knew what I was doing, and BTW, the last full-time gig I had was over 20 years ago, winning those sticks for the 2 year gig with a 33 piece Jazz ensemble, and although I was incredibly humbled by that initial experience, I was confident throughout, and I got the job. I know the truth of a good deal of Todd's inspirational thoughts, a I have lived life as he instructs his students.
Hey, Todd: I have never been "one of those guys," you spoke about, as I have understood the idea of selling the music as a completed product, with whomever I have played! A drummer is a fine occupation, and because still in good physical shape still apply that which I have learned to the sticks and love to play anywhere at anytime! Keep learning, and you do not need your sticks in your hands until you practice that which you have heard and liked the sound of!

Sucherman is my favorite guy to listen to while he teaches on your channel, he's not my favorite drummer of all time, but is still one of my favorites. He's so seasoned! His experience and the value of what his says just shows how much of a natural born musician and teacher he really is.
Wow. Just wow. As a person who prides himself on being well versed in general music knowledge, it amazes me how much I don't know when Drumeo exposes me to this kind of talent. If I were to lose both my arms tomorrow, I would still be grateful for my lifetime membership to Drumeo just to have this exposure.

Is there any chance you can ask Dennis Chambers how he practices coordination and get him to demonstrate? He does this crazy thing in his solos sometimes where he'll play an ostinato and then do singles between his free hand and foot and speed it up while still keeping the ostinato at the original tempo. I can't tell what is my favourite part because there are so much of them! Todd is one of the most "deep" characters in drumming cause his awareness and knowledge of the job has so many aspects (mixing from ground zero, drum sound, relaxing, 5 rules and many more). Many drummers focus on only one thing they master, Todd focuses on many. Re-ignites my passion!

I've finally realised what is the "science" behind the groove that makes you bang your head. I wasn't used to make such a big dynamic difference among my limbs, but it is obviously very needed. What people might not think about is that this lesson can be relate-able with, not only if you're a jazz fusion or traditional rock to prog drummer, this can also be related with punk to extreme metal. Meaning the hand technique, equipment placement and playing diversity effects even the players who drum 250 beats per minute especially with progressive/ experimental metal (Richardson/ Haake). Just because the music is known for cymbal bashing doesn't mean it fits universally everywhere.

Todd is an amazing master, but he's so good it makes me feel like throwing away my drums, because I don't think I'll ever be that good. It's like climbing Mount Everest and he's already gone to the top a dozen times and done it all.

Man work on your technique,sticking patterns,bass drum exercises,play along to a lot of songs. Practice like it's all you have and give yourself completely to the craft. You can cultivate talent,but you need to quot comparing yourself to advanced musicians. I've been playing almost 30 years now and I've come a long way. I am more now as a musician than I ever thought I would be and if I never made another dime playing drums every moment of practice all the money I've spent on gear,it's all been worth it. I am satisfied with the result of all the hard work. There were road blocks and many times where I felt faded or as if I wasn't getting better,still I practiced. Never give up my friend it's totally worth it.

If I had the opportunity to become a career musician like Todd, then I could probably get really good like that, but that life wasn’t in the cards for me, (and not from a lack of trying) so it’s never gonna happen and sometimes that’s ok and sometimes it’s a real bummer. I'm an amateur drummer as well as a young musician and I know about these things like dynamics and the different energy levels of the music but not how to implement them while behind the drums. This lesson blew my mind. This is my favourite lesson no others come close to this no offense Lol. Todd Sucherman is my favourite teacher. Keep doing what you are doing sir and I look forward to seeing you here again and to hopefully seeing you in real life sometimes. The second to last song near to the end was amazing and that was my favourite part.

I have never seen a lesson that perfectly explains what I have always been concerned about playing drums. Despite not being good at English, I could easily understand it. Todd is a fantastic teacher. I want to go back to practice room right now. Thank You Todd and Drumeo.

You know, I can't say this comment doesn't sadden me. Especially considering how many people gave it a thumbs up. Comparing Todd to Casey is apples to oranges. If only you could meet Casey you'd all change your minds. He's one of the nicest and hardest working people I know who has a heart for the drumming community. The work he is doing is good for all of us, whether you can see that or not.

Casey's safe, we love and adore his job incredibly.
The main issue with Casey is that he doesn't practice what he preaches, which comes out as bit hypocritical in practice.
I have been a fan for awhile and every time I see or hear him play it reminds me of why I am a fan. Todd brings it with honesty and integrity and his hand technique and musical choices are incredible. Thanks to drumeo for sharing this.
Sucherman is a freaking super hero. People seem to be noticing him a lot more now (thankfully) because of social media etc. He’s got it all, in the way that cats like Brechtlein do. Time, touch, feel..GRoOVE! What I love about his chops is how easy and natural they come out and within the context of a SONG!

I really enjoyed this lesson! I never fully realized that how you play can effect the atmosphere in a live scenario or recording. Really motivates me to try to play differently on my drums than just playing loud.
