My mum worked in the record packing department of EMI, at Southall, in the late 70's, back then artists did factory visits, including, for all the rebel pretentions, Rich Kids. My mum met Midge Ure, she told him, 'you're a bit scruffy, you don't look very rich to me!'. Midge replied, 'but we're rich in talent love!. And gave her a badge, Rich Kids/hammer and sickle logo.
a couple of years later Midge would go from this to being a suave pencil mosutached singer with Ultravox and head the new romantic scene. That's quite a transformation.
And not forgetting Rusty ( Egan ) on drums ( with him Midge, & Strange aka Visage ) .. I think Rusty more or less formulated the sound of New Romantic scene with him being the resident DJ at the Blitz.
Band was originally formed by Glen Matlock after he was thrown out of the Sex Pistols. Midge Ure was also a member of the band. He later replaced John Foxx as the lead vocalist of Ultravox and recorded the classic album Vienna.
I was here when they filmed this in the audience! - It was in dewsbury, west yorks, November 1977. It was a tiny club and Mike Mansfield from Supersonic filmed it. i went and you got a voucher to buy a ticket for the Sex pistols gig which took place on Christmas Day in Huddersfield...best Christmas ever!
Saw them at 100 Club in '77. Pretty good from what I remember. Bob Geldof was lurking at the back if memory serves. I guess this started off what became known as 'Power Pop'. Cracking single in my view.
I did indeed go last week, it was my birthday and a real treat. True it was a bit unrehearsed but when Rusty remembered how to start a couple of songs and the guitars were tuned it was definitely one of the best gigs I've been to in a while. Not because they were perfect, but because they were enjoying themselves and regressing 30 years. Gary Kemp was fine, really surprised me, not only playing guitar but singing along too so he gets some kudos! And there was plenty of bald blokes around :)
I saw them at Brighton Uni, truly fantastic, the gig was spoilt by 6 daft punks who insisted on spitting at the band. Oh well ! I think if they'd appeared 18 months later they'd have been huge, too close to all the end of punk stuff, someone else mentioned their name was wrong, obviously ironic but alienated too many people, maybe they should have been named................Straight outta Matlock !!!!
My Band Supported Salvation (Midge Ure,s Band) At The Ardrossan Civic Centre In In 1972 He Was Different In The Sense He Was Always Going Somewhere, But Quite Boring And Insular
With the line-up and sound writing talent in this band, who could really play ad write, I'm surprised they wound up as a one-hit-wonder with just this song making a dent on the singles chart. I thought Ghosts of Princes in towers was as good, if not better, than this, yet did next to nothing chart-wise. Funny lot the record-buying public back then - fickle tastes, it seems.
No you didn't ruin anything. He grew a ponytail in 84 but there was already a bald spot appearing. It was a bit of a shock to find him totally bald last year, oh well... no one's perfect :)

i bet he hums the "Rich Kid" song ,whilst putting the recycling out ,nowadays, rather than Ultravox. I know I do
Yeah,he became a tosser.

One of the best bands I ever saw
Saw them at the music machine long time ago... with slits, adam ant....
Grandissimo Glen Matlock! ♥️

The impact is amazing! cool. It's a masterpiece that will remain in music history. 👏❤️
Жаль, что мало поиграли, группа была талантливая...
Fabulous. I love this band.
Call it entertainment. They were extremely professional, unlike the Professionals who weren't .
Very nice guitar tone!
What a band they were!!
Aww, well it was all filmed, hope it turns up somewhere and isn't too cleaned up by the time it does see the light of day.

Call it power pop, call it rock n roll, call it punk rock, but this ROCKS
how young does Midge look here ...lol!
Saw them at Improvision club (Top Rank) in Sheffield around this time!
C'est cool de voir Midge Ure avec beaucoup de cheveux :)
Excellent

@dortyhoor It took a lot longer than 5 years for him to go bald but unlike Samson Midge's strength is not in his hair!
In this weather all you need is a hat - one of those ones with the long ear flaps should do :)
Was that around the same time as the hair departed? LOL
Midge had so much hair back then
Bobbles are so last year lol
@dortyhoor Never put me off him though lol

not representative of 1978, and this had very little impact at the time...it's too fake and contrived. Poor in '78, and no better today.
