Pete said Mick was the best bassist in the UK. Anyone who was able to play with Mick was blown away by his talent. How he ended up broke is so unfortunate but Midge Ure was a stand up guy to help raise money for his family. Much respect to all for this.
My question is why do musicians that are ready multi millionaires need to go to the public to ask them for money when Midge, Pete, Phil, could have all just wrote a check each and not think anything about it? I mean what happened to brothers in Arm?
I always think that with any charity entertainers get involveqd in. We have people already multimillionaires trying to get ordinary Joe and Jo Public to dig in their impoverished pockets. I can't help but feel it's an ego trip for them, that's all. I remember thinking this at Live-Aid all those years ago!
What a unique, amazing bass player Mick Karn was ! Incredible !

I have been a fan of Midge since the late 70-ties but this video is amazing. Not only is it a beautiful song but he got Mick Karn on base and Phil Collins on Drums and himself on vocal and Guitar and I just cant think it could be any better. For the first time in my 50 year old life I am religeous and I am OK with it. Many thanks to you who posted this video, I honeslty can say that I cired a bit when I saw it. THANKS
You forgot Pete Townshend on rhythm, this was a video from the 80s for a benefit, these guys all played on Townshend's songs from same concert. Great supergroup if there ever was one. Look up Slit Skirts on here to see the performance from these guys.
The late Mick Karn is a G😍D and although this song isn't to my taste, I think it's darn amazing to see these very talented people are all playing together. Midge Ure has a very beautiful voice.
Terrible to see this tremendously talented, warm-hearted and, by all accounts, much-loved young man in his heyday, and know that his death was not far away. Life is so precious. 😢
Excellent live version of an often forgotten about Top 10 hit. Mick Karn, excellent on bass. Also Midge Ure doing a fantastic job on guitar and showing his live vocal talent.
I guess all that really matters is that love's flame flares high on all the fuel that we can feed it while we're alive...... This song is a testament to that.....
Two most iconic fretless bass moments in the 80,s for me,wherever i lay my hat, paul young Pino Palladino,Life in Tokyo Mick!! This song just makes me cry and want the 80's.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing! I think Pete's backing vocals truly blend with Midge's lead. Gary Brooker provides great key work, Phil is rock steady and Mick Karn's bouncing bass line is resonant.
This is great, just heard the Walker brothers version of this in the car the other day and forgot how good it was, then i just remembered version Midge done, then i see my favourite bass player(big Japan fan when younger)then a bit of Phil and Pete thrown in for good measure all in the one video!,never seen this before!:-)
Tom Rush wrote this song. He panned this version of the song. I don't think any other is even close to this good. I could watch Mick Karn...He looks like this music is being generated from inside his heart. His Bass cries, whispers, and strides like Gods walking through paradise
Whatever he did Mick Karn was cool… I like this version, I just wish Midge kept the lead guitar in for the end of the solo break-filled in with keyboard-and also guitar lead over ‘no regrets’ at the end… What a band though!
Just a shame Ure and Geldof wrote the line, "Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you." Faux pas extraordinaire. It probably didn't take much persuasion to get the wee man 'Bono' to belt it out. By the way at time of going to press there is no snow on either of the peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro. And that's no laughing matter. And of course not everybody celebrates Christmas.
Apart from midges solo, where Townsend and ure's guitars switched off ,because mick would have overpowered them both ? Or was it just respect for the best bassist ever heard? No Regrets?
As much as I like Midge Ure, I'm not keen on this song. The arrangement on his single is almost identical to The Walker Brothers' version from the 70s. But Mick Karn's bass takes it up several notches.
You can tell with the expression on Petes face "cheeky grin" looking towards Mick Karn at the end who overpowered who, even though both of them are legends "Respect"
Wonderful. Pete Townsend looks like a young Frankie Howerd, Midge looks like a second hand car salesman, and Phil as if he's playing drums at a karaoke evening in Benidorm. And then there is Mick, beautiful, stunning with his little shuffle.
Funny... but Midge and Phil are megastars, so clothes for them are not so very important. For me if not short sleeves of Midges shirt it would be everything ok
Yes Collins, Townshend, Ure and Mick and sorry to bust your bubble as good a player as mick is the other 3 command much more in the history of rock. - as bad as you think the song is.
Who cares about the history of rock?! Karn's music is so far and beyond mere rock music that it's almost insulting to label it under such a reductive category. Have a listen to Titles, More better different, The Concrete twin, Dreams of reason, The Waking hour, Polytown, Three part species etc etc. Around this time, Townshend (for what it's worth) is on record as stating that he believed Mick Karn to be the best (electric?) bassist in the world. Personally, I don't even think that the bass guitar was his best instrument.
The guy in the leather jacket playing synths looks similar to Billy, but I am pretty certain it isn't him. We only get few shots of him, best one was at the end of the video. To my knowledge, Billy never played in any of the Prince's Trust concerts. He is a very fine musician nonetheless!
Pete said Mick was the best bassist in the UK. Anyone who was able to play with Mick was blown away by his talent. How he ended up broke is so unfortunate but Midge Ure was a stand up guy to help raise money for his family. Much respect to all for this.
Better known as ripped of by the "Industry". Respect to all who rallied around Mick in his ... LOVE yer all .Regards Jon. R.I.P.. M..Karn

@@jangofett5806 very very good point!
All these stellar musicians playing but the comments are mostly about Mick Karn. Says a lot.
Music with space like this is where fretless bass can really shine, especially when being played by someone like Mick who could really make it sing.
The one and only Bass God that is the legendary Mick Karn! Pure class! R.I.P.... Missed by many!
Mick Karn (featuring Midge Ure)
What a line up 👏
Great line up
Mick's versing/playing was so identifiable, you could notice him sound a world away!
Mick karn ........ in my opinion the best fretless bass player EVER !!!!!!
The world lost a genius musician, when mick KARN left this world, coolness personified, what a loss, RIP mick,
Was there, the Prince’s Trust, 1982. Amazing.

mick looks like he's not even thinking about what he is doing... a true sign of a master
The late Mick Karn is a G😍D and although this song isn't to my taste, I think it's darn amazing to see these very talented people are all playing together. Midge Ure has a very beautiful voice.
you're hot
No Midge Ure without Scott Wallker
Pete always plays with amazing bass players.
look at mick karns fingers...he was born to do this.and he did it the best!!
Terrible to see this tremendously talented, warm-hearted and, by all accounts, much-loved young man in his heyday, and know that his death was not far away. Life is so precious. 😢
Nobody playing like Mick!
Phil Collins

The Bassist of all bass players R.I.P Mick
Utterly Brilliant, what a line-up many thanks for posting
I hope so much that after 2 years the concert will take place. I need your music, your energy, you give me hope.
It's a freakin' super-duper-group! Brilliant!
Excellent! Thanks for sharing! I think Pete's backing vocals truly blend with Midge's lead. Gary Brooker provides great key work, Phil is rock steady and Mick Karn's bouncing bass line is resonant.
Spectacular song - intense performance! A logical progression of the Ultravox sound.
I heard this song the first time on some Eighties compilation CD in 1994 when I was a teenager.I have always liked this song.
Some great musicians, especially Mick Karn, ....and Phil Collins with them.
This is great, just heard the Walker brothers version of this in the car the other day and forgot how good it was, then i just remembered version Midge done, then i see my favourite bass player(big Japan fan when younger)then a bit of Phil and Pete thrown in for good measure all in the one video!,never seen this before!:-)
The beautiful eyes of Midge
I was only born in 1984 but love Midge he can do no wrong 😍😍😍
Mick was the biz!
This was the same gig where they all backed Kate Bush....RIP Mick....utter genius
Saddened by MK's passing, the tracks are laid down and I will continue enjoying such a unique talent. God bless.
The best song from MIDGE
a great bass player, only now I've know of his death, I know of his work mostly with the band JAPAN. RIP Mick Karn
Gosh, your post from 8 years ago reminds me of how long ago that we lost Mick. He was truly amazing.
@@gerardlee4319 I wonder how his family is doing

It's interesting what this performance is most known for is...the incomparable Mick Karn. And...rightly so.
absolutely fabulous
Wow!
Amazing job, Midge! No one plays the guitar better than he does, love him!! 👍👍👍
Thank you Chris for this fantastic video...Mick is the best.
This one of the saddest songs ever recorded and with the news of Mick's passing it is that nuch more sad.
his first solo single ... class!!!
Super Group
I was there and was very disappointed Midge only did the one song!
Tom Rush wrote this song. He panned this version of the song. I don't think any other is even close to this good. I could watch Mick Karn...He looks like this music is being generated from inside his heart. His Bass cries, whispers, and strides like Gods walking through paradise
Excellent
Superb.
Did you see the Mick Moonwalk at 3.31
😂😂😂
It's not a moonwalk, it's some old japanese way of dancing
Great bass from Mick Karn
Uhmm, and Phil Collins on drums. Midge covering a great song, and looking like a stone fox.
Is it just me or did Pete Townsend give Mick Karn a smile and respectful look at the end? As if to say " we know your the best" don't rub it in😂
3:14 too.
Makes it even more amazing considering he played alongside ThunderFingers for years and years
ooooh phil you old rock and roller you !!!....
see they all want to be in Ultravox
A genius musician - R.I.P.
mick karn ,,,,,,,amazing....not just here
Mick I don't know if God exist but if he exists I think you are playing for him right now!!!
(faints) 😍😍😍
Great Scott Walker cover.
Get well Mick. Thinking of you.
Awsome
Belter Mick, belter Midge.

RIP Mick karn
Gutted. The man will be here forever. Thank you Mr Karn.
That’s what I call a Supergroup.
Isn't that Pill Collins playing the drums.
r.i.p Mick
Amazing version, clearly the Walker Brother were an influence on him, I must admit I had a bit of crush on him back then lol.
rip Mick :(
R I P Scott Walker
That is a SuperGroup.
Is that Phil Collins on drums? lol
no sure
Idol Punk yes, it is :)
Alena C. and pete townshend on guitar

Was that Alan Parsons on keyboards?
Phil !
Phil Collins on drums as well.
Whatever he did Mick Karn was cool…
I like this version, I just wish Midge kept the lead guitar in for the end of the solo break-filled in with keyboard-and also guitar lead over ‘no regrets’ at the end…
What a band though!
3:31 hehe he did the thing
Mick Karn is extremely ill battling cancer at the moment. Please visit his website for information in regards to making a donation.
Was.. was that Pete Townsend and Phil Collins?
@HawkeyeBrodine
Sure is x

Really? Wow...I thought he was Billy Currie.
Yes, I thought it was Currie in the first shot but defo Dave Formula in the second.
@voltaire2001 I can see why, excellent. Mine is Trevor Bolder.

MK, the greatest, resting well I hope
i know it's called the wedding list
Very Japan

Featuring Mick Karn? Well yes, and Phil Collins and Pete Townsend. But perhaps you don't know them or you don't think they're significant?
Who is the bassist?
Mick Karn
moodyb damn. I just found out that he succumbed to death. It’s my first time listening to the song and find such thing
A god.
As much as I like Midge Ure, I'm not keen on this song. The arrangement on his single is almost identical to The Walker Brothers' version from the 70s. But Mick Karn's bass takes it up several notches.
Beautiful, how everybody came here to see the vid only because of Mick. The song's crap, but Mick still shines through.
Song is great
Five years on and your opinion is still wrong.
Mick? No, i love Midge Ure.
You can tell with the expression on Petes face "cheeky grin" looking towards Mick Karn at the end who overpowered who, even though both of them are legends "Respect"

Mick looks like he's from another world ... Cool as.
Mick Karn is class, he looks so cool whenever he plays fretless bass
Funny... but Midge and Phil are megastars, so clothes for them are not so very important. For me if not short sleeves of Midges shirt it would be everything ok
Midge is so cool I love his style.
This song sounds boring without Mick Karn bassline. Why didn't Midge release this song with Mick's bassline instead?
cant stand midge ure, or the drummer, but stumbled across this tonight and loved it.
Yes Collins, Townshend, Ure and Mick and sorry to bust your bubble as good a player as mick is the other 3 command much more in the history of rock. - as bad as you think the song is.

Also, unless I'm very much mistaken, that is Billy Currie on synths and he was a half decent musician too!
The guy in the leather jacket playing synths looks similar to Billy, but I am pretty certain it isn't him. We only get few shots of him, best one was at the end of the video. To my knowledge, Billy never played in any of the Prince's Trust concerts. He is a very fine musician nonetheless!
@@ChasD Yes, it is Dave Formula of Magazine, who played with Midge in Visage
