We used to go in along the dog fence , must be pretty close to there . My old man got a 29kg (66lb) Mulloway and I caught one 10kg, priceless memories I'll live with forever.
Yeah mate the dog fence is really close to yalata. That's great mate, thanks for sharing 👌 that's what it's all about at the end of the day making memories. Great comment mate 👍
Great vid boys. I love the Muloway and live on the South Coast of W.A where we get some monsters, i'm still chasing my 1st big Silver Ghost. You have a new subscriber, love this.
45 years back when working on new nullabour highway we had construction camp at Yalata, about 6km from mission,Sunday was day off borrow the highways fj40 off fishing, no atv in those days hike across dunes, good whiting, salmon, and crays at low tide.Things change now needing permit and no beer. Two years on nullabour was great time in my youth.
Great comment mate👍thats awesome you got to be there as a young fella and experienced it as it was back then. Times have definitely changed mate. I'm happy we all still get to enjoy this place now. Cheers mate 🍻
Nice work bro, yeah the Coombra track is a grind, Red Gate is my preferred option even if I’m fishing Coombra haha. We went in October this year I got an 88cm 18lb Mully second last cast of our 6 day trip. It was the only Mully we saw. Got some monsta bronzies drone fishing 400m drops and some nice gummys at the shore, heaps of salmon, some real monstas. Yalata was mostly weeded out from Bobs all the way down to Coombra that’s as far as we travelled, I spent the previous 12 months with a good idea where I wanted to fish this year, that went pear shaped so we hung around Hilton area. We had a great trip we’re already booked for 2023. Tight lines 🤙🏻
Thanks legend 👍 yeah mate coombra track in was a slow bumpy drive in. I'll keep the red gate in mind next time if you think it's a better. Great work getting an 88cm mate, down to the wire 👌 we were there in October also and my mate got that 86cm. So happy to hear you had a great time and you got some other fish/sharks up. Yeah mate we are all booked in for yalata next November, I already can't wait. Hope you get that fish you're chasing next time too mate. Tight lines 👍
@@wereonhereadventure6358 Cheers bro, yeah that's a perfect keeper your mate got, nice work. I broke 3 ribs on the last day. Long story, in short, Plebs in 4x4s who don't know how to drive them offroad should listen to advice from those who do. Yep, it was still a great trip haha. FYI Red Gate is about 100 km up the hywy from Nudroo servo. It's 18km to the backtrack, about 45 min drive as opposed to the Coombra track 1.5 hrs of bone-jarring dash destroying teeth-shattering pure adventure. Don't get me wrong, everyone should experience that at least once, or you've never really experienced Yalata haha. Red gate track comes out just south of Jaxons. I'd say it would be around 5-7km south along the backtrack and you'll hit the coombra track intersection if you boys are camping that end. Dont get me wrong Red Gate track has its moments but they're few and far between comparatively. Good luck on your next adventure to Gods Country 👍
G'day mate thank you 👍 the bike my old man was riding is a grizzly 700. It has 4wd and he only had to use it the once that trip. Probably a good thing have but if you have a quad without 4wd you should be fine. He had a home made base on the back that had a battery box and an engel to put any fish we were going to eat straight in. There was 2 small chairs and a small shade tied down to the seat. Rods in the holders on the back. He had a kings box on the front that we put bits and pieces in. The quad I was riding is a 400 Suzuki king quad. It has 4wd. It had the bait esky and tackle bags tighed down to the back. pvc rode holders for the sand screwed to the back. I had a bunning box full of bits and pieces on the front. We had everything we needed on the bike the night before so we could wake up, jump straight on and live on the beach. Hope this helps 🤙
The king quad performed great. It does everything it needs to do. It goes through sand dunes and the beach easier enough. We take this quad hunting also and it has no problem going through mud or up hills. It hasn't let us down yet. I'd definitely recommend one mate 👍
I'm hearing ya mate, we've done alot of night fishing for kob in other areas. This particular spot is renowned for catching big fish during the day. Getting that big chrome up in the sun, there is nothing better 👍 cheers mate 🍻
Hi mate, thank you 👍 we stayed at the coombra campsite. Yep there was a really old holden that has probably been there 20+ years. I'm pretty sure there are two entrances. The coombra track is the first gate coming from the yalata township that goes to granites, coombra and a couple of others sites. I'm pretty sure the red gate goes to Jaxson's, bobs kitchen, the Hilton and some others. Where abouts did you stay?
We always use Red Gate and camp at Bob’s. We take quads so fish east and west of Bobs depending on gutters. The Red Gate track can deliver pin strips on the vehicles. Whats the Coombra track like? Width etc
Coombra track isn't too bad, some sections can get a little bit scratchy. Alot of rocks in the tracks which make the trip pretty slow and bumpy. We went for a drive one end to the other while we were there and it is all pretty much the same. Granites you need to 4×4 to get into it through the dunes and the Hilton at the other end was the same but not as intense 👍
Hi mate, there are no pubs in yalata. It is indigenous land and alcohol is not allowed. I'm pretty sure the closest place to get a drink is in the Nundroo road house which is about half hour away 👍
@@wereonhereadventure6358 agreed. If ur going to gaf do the mouth. But you don’t really need to let them wash up and use a bridle to lift and weigh them before a quick release
The issue with the 499s is they’re only good for about 6/7 kg of drag. But great reels I met John devitt who originally designed them before the sholes at Mitchell stole his design and copyrighted it
@@wereonhereadventure6358 no problem I have the 389s 499 and 499 pro without the bail arm The Mitchell’s and pens were the saltigas and Stella’s in their day I’d use mine if the back lash wasn’t so great. Once u start using saltigas. Hard to go back to to old school Easy to service though. G'day mate, we park our cars at the designated camp sites and use the quad bikes/ATV's to travel through the dunes and along the beach. This place is unique as we are allowed to use bikes. Using bikes is better as there is less chance of getting stuck in the sand dunes. They give us peace of mind knowing we aren't going to get get into trouble. Hope this helps 👍
Your intro does you no favors. A decent angler would release a giant like that. They're not good eating at that size so why not have your fun and release it afterwards. I look at South African fishermen and they set a good example of catch and release
Hey mate I respect your opinion, if we were to catch a true monster one day 80-100ibs we would probably let it go. We live this lifestyle to eat what we catch, that's the whole point to us. Every fish in the intro was eaten and there was no reports they tasted bad. I know alot of people catch and release but we catch and eat. Do you eat fish?
@@wereonhereadventure6358 imo frozen mulloway is not good at all. We usually keep the first decent 30lb plus fish and split it amongst the group fridges and take a few fresh fish meals home then let any others caught on the trip go. All the fun with fish to come back to next time :)
OK the atv entrance is SICK. And the fact that you give your fellow aussies alternate fishing spots if they must drink is so classic.
Haha thanks mate 👍 Us Aussies do love a beer 🍻
Great video mate, from a fellow South Aussie. Keep it up
