Thanks for sharing some nice honest bread & butter bait fishing. I know the exact spot you were fishing and makes me what head back for a session. Picked up a few ideas there. Particularly like the 'milk bottle burley container' attached to the bait belt and the baiting up technique with a whole pillie - where you bait with the tail half and mash the head into the burley spring. Fresh salmon, yummo!
G'day Simon. Thank you for your comment, yes they come in handy the old milk bottle and the head half of the pillie works a treat in the home made burley spring. Deep creek great place to be, and yes them salmon were yum. Tight lines mate.
It’s a great spot though a 4wd would have saved a walk in. There was quite a large swell rolling in which made it challenging. Any suggestions for fishing in these conditions. Also I lost a few fish while reeling in and lost lots baits (missed opportunities ?) any suggestions?
@@ababba1144 G'day, wow big walk well done. Firstly when there is a big swell rolling take care and keep you eyes on the water as you probably did, also best to be casting at the back of the break and the churned sandy water, which is good down there being side on. When winding a fish in it is important to keep your line tight so the hook doesn't come out during the fight also have your drag set so the fish can pull line if it wants too, also don't force too hard against the fish when winding in( known as skull dragging) that can pull the hook out unless you have too i.e. seal or shark trying to eat your fish. When a fish bites its best to strike when you feel the weight of the fish take your bait try to resist striking nibbles and bumps, there are sometimes a lot of silver whiting down there and small mullet and crabs can be bad, they all will steel your bait. sound like you are on your way to learning here's a few ideas to hopefully help if you don't already do. @@davidsheldonfishing9726 I figure there could be some up Thompson Beach way, and there are definitely some on the section bank at St Kilda. I've even seen a few inside the breakwater at Semaphore south.
Just re-watched this video, cant wait to get down to this spot, looks lovely. What a bonus flathead you caught, i love flathead, one of my favourite fish to eat. Do you go chasing the flathead at all? If so how do you go about this? Maybe thats a new video idea for you mate, flathead, rigs, catching, filleting and cooking, haha.
Howdy Darren, yes flat head are mainly a bonus fish for me and while fishing for other fish it is quite easy to accidentally catch one. I have chased them before and caught a couple. I have thought about doing a video fishing for flat head it would be good catching one on video, Its just a matter of time hopefully. Deep creek is truely wonderfull.

Wow brad thats a long big effort for one fish. Maybe because there has been a lot of fishing happening over the holidays, all full up on every ones bait and burley, or simply just one of them days when nothing seems to be around. Better luck next time brad, things can definitely only get better. All the best David
Hi Peter, yes it was a top afternoon, yes you make sure the both of you do go for a look, there can be some good fishing down there as well as just a nice place to be. Mullet off the beach also in close off the rocks as well as salmon and other species available around the place, my favourite place. parks entry fee is 8 50 I think and the track down is quite rough at the moment. I buy a yearly ticket, you can pay at Delamere general store on you way, or on line. All the best.
Hi strawberry shortcake, Try the tackle shop closest to you and you will find them there, we stock all tackle shops in South Australia. All the best mate.
Great video Dave. Have learnt so much from you so far mate. Will be heading there is a fortnight as well as hopefully Waitpinga.. Two questions: why not use a lure once you'd established the salmon were biting. and, what's your favourite ways to cook the salmon which many say arent a decent table fish? Cheers...
Hi Peter, thank you and my pleasure. Funny you would ask, I did suggest using a lure I had some in my bag and I wish I did have a quick flick It would have been good for the video and good fun sometimes when catching salmon on bait they won't take a lure but I did see a couple of salmon chasing tommies so it probably would have been good, next time I will. I like to crumb or beer batter the smaller ones and the larger ones I like to make fish curry also they make yummy fish cakes also pan fried in olive oil, splash of soy sauce, tomato sauce and garlic is nice. try things that tickle your taste buds and enjoy. you can try whole baked see what you think and bleed them as you catch them. All the best and tight lines Cheers David.
HI David what a great afternoon, Im heading down that way this November for the first time fishing in the area - I assume a simple spinning rod and reel combo would be ok to have a go? Any tackle shop could advise best combo for off the rocks on a budget? Was looking at a Ugly stick combo from Anaconda for around $200 Thanks
Hi Hadyn, I have just had a look at the Ugly stick combo's at Anaconda firstly I will say ugly stik fishing rods have a very good reputation the one I noticed was called- Ugly Stik Balance 10ft with line class rating 6-10kg surf combo 179dollars this length fishing rod is ideal for fishing off the rocks and also off the beach you could spool the fishing reel up with 10kg good quality nylon line or 20-30lb braid I would prefer 30lb braid you could fish the way I do in this video with the salmon rig and even if you like swap over your fishing rig to a lighter rig for smaller fish you could easily do that with this rod it's not the ideal small fish rod but it will do the job and be ok. I have a yellow eye mullet rig bait, burly tips video also a Australian salmon rigs video if you haven't already seen them. Hope this helps and where I am in this video is a beautiful place. Yes what a nice day rain tomorrow
Do you catch many squid their? I've visited blowhole beach several times with family but never fished it. Would love to see a squid video in this location. Keep up good work 👍
Hi mate. Yes squid fishing can be good down there, I have never targeted them but a spot down there where I fish with pilchard, not the location in this video, I have had quite a few grab my pilchard so I put a jag on and normaly catch it. After Christmas i will try and do a video. CHEERS DAVID👍
Thanks for the videos mate. When you say cockles do you mean a shellfish caught in a lake with a grooved shell or are they caught on the beach and are what we call pipis in NSW? Just seen you she’ll one . We call them pipies.
Hi Tony, and thank you for watching. Yes what we call cockles over hear are what you fishos over there call pipis i think. Over hear they are collected from the beaches either side of the Murray river mouth, and we call them Goolwa cockles.....Cheers David.
Hi mate, hear in South Australia winter time is the prime time for salmon, they can be caught all year round depending on where you are fishing but winter time is prime time. Hopefully my videos will help you on your way. Thank you for watching.
Hi Mohammed. Thankyou nice to hear you love my video's it's great to get comments like that. I wish I could help you out with your question but I'm not very familiar with sydney. All I've heard about is flathead near the airport somewhere and kingfish in the harbour and some good rock fishing around but care should be taken on the rocks. Wish I could help you more. All the best....David
Hi Jesse. They are 2 different species and there is no bag or size limit on silver whiting in South Australia, its a honest mistake there are a lot of people who think they are the same species. All the best and tight lines.
Love the look of this spot and i can not wait to go down here. I am heading that way in a few weeks, hoping to get to this spot for a fish! Do you rememebr what time of year it was that you filmed this video? If not, what time of the year is best for this location? Any tides or times i should be looking at for better results also? Keep up the good work mate, cheers
Hi Darren, this location is normally best early morning or mid to late afternoon but can be full of surprises being its location. I like a incoming tide in the afternoon. but it doesn't really matter in the morning. When its calm in the bay the beach can be good too. I like to fish down hear in the cooler months, but is good all year round. There are some good fishing locations around this area off the rocks and care must be taken.
@@davidsheldonfishing9726 thank you bud, heading down there probably near june long weekend, hopefully weather is good and i can catch something, haha. Yes most deffinately take care when rock fishing.
Blowhole creek it's self has crabs and yabbies living together. I used to go there regularly in mid 80s as a teenager. We would catch flat head behind the breakers. But the rock fishing was the best with the biggest whiting I have ever seen , fat as your arm . But the wild life was great a whale came in one day, another penguin s would follow your bait in. But my later fav fishing spot down there was tunkalilla beach , nice mulloway , samon even snapper off the beach. But the view s are worth it
Hi Peter, thank you for your comment and sorry late reply. I also have caught some cracking whiting and flathead down Deep creek in another location fantastic fishing my favourite spot. Also like yourself have fished Tunkkalilla a lot not lately though. I live not far away and was lucky enough to have a key to drive in yes mulloway, bronze whaler sharks a few school sharks big salmon even wrasse and sweep I got lucky on a couple of Taylor one 9lb but I never got onto a snapper a guy I know did and it was quite large. Like you say the views and the areas themselves are stunning. All the best Peter. the mulloway in my pic is off tunks 50lb
@@davidsheldonfishing9726 awesome mulloway. And lucky to have a key. In 1989 I had the opportunity one 1.2 long and had to carry it out. Half way up the road track and got a rock and ground down the teeth as my thumb and hands were so cut up. Shame I'm now 300km east but I am closer to Kingston fishing competition . It's the n this weekend but maybe next year. I have done 15 of those
Great vid again David. I'm really enjoying the way you put your vids together. No fuss, just straight forward info and demonstrations. Any chance you could let me know what you look for in a rod? You seem to have plenty of length, a good bit of flex at the tip but lots of strength in the main base. Carbon fibre or composite? Cheers.
Thank you Wes I really appreciate that mate. Ok What I look for in a fishing rod, firstly like most people I like them fairly light, for land based a reasonable length 7-10ft for whiting mullet etc the lighter rod in this video is the old super stick flick stick nearly 10ft long, over 30 years old beautiful fishing rod one piece made out of 2 blanks joined together about a third up. I've fished 1 kg line on it unto around 6kg and I'm pretty sure its just hollow fibreglass I recon I would just about cry if anything happened to it. The other for the salmon is the 4120 Snyder glass 10ft there is one the 4120G with one wrap of graphite mine is just hollow fibre glass, it has caught a lot of fish including mulloway no problem, my ideal surf rod for mulloway is 12ft medium taper, Snyder do one its a MT144 its got a bit of weight but a great action I think fibre glass, my mulloway rod is a 12 ft golden oldie sportex probably a collectors item LoL. Daiwa do a rod called the seajigger it comes in 3 sizes I think and it may be Carbon fibre the lighter one 2 piece is very much like my light super stick, my son in law has one and its very nice. All the best Wes..... David
Hi M MP. Yes there is a entry fee to Deep Creek, you will have to pay online or you can pay at Dalamare general store. I think its 8-50 for a day pass. I personally buy a year pass 60 dollars and go as many times as I like. It is very nice down there, if possible try to avoid holidays even nice weather weekends, it gets quite popular these days. winter time is nice.
Hi GilesWestbrook7 the line used for my fishing rig is 35lb SCHNEIDER KLEAR-LINE, a very good mono line made in Germany and my main line is 20lb Finns braid. thanks for watching and tight lines.
Hi Karl, thank you for your comment very much appreciated and glad you enjoy the videos. No I don't do much fishing down that way but have a bit years ago. At the bottom of cement hill at the start of Brighton beach at low tide walk out there on the reefy area and see if you can spot some swiming in the shallows. My favourite time to fish for YFW is low tide but high in the morning or evening can be good too. All along them beaches you can find yellowfins. they seem to be making a bit of a come back, they were starting to get scarce. Best bait live beach worm and bass yabby. Brighton tackle shop sell worms if you don't catch them. Cheers David.
I'm new to your vids mate and I'm loving them. Do you do any teaching in person at all? I live in Alidinga Beach and watching you in the areas where I surf etc is epic.
G'day Corey thanks for the nice comment mate. No sorry I don't do fishing lessons, its nice to be asked though. Fishing has been slow for me at the moment should be back into it soon. So stay tuned and you may pick up another tip or two...Cheers David
Hi there. the spring above my sinker is called a burley spring, I squeeze pilchard into it to help attract the fish to my fishing location. I have made a video on how to make them if interested, its called. How to make a burley spring.
Hi Patterson Core, sorry but you may be getting silver whiting confused with yellowfin whiting which have a bag limit of 20 and a size limit of 24cm. There is no size or bag limit for silver whiting at present. Thank you for watching and commenting.
David Sheldon Fishing Silver whiting ARE yellowfin whiting. Silver whiting is their nickname. Much like shitties are the nickname for trumpeters. If you’ve been keeping them undersize, you’ll get a rude shock one day if a fishing inspector meets you. Try arguing your point to them like a guy did here, huge fine... Good luck on your fishing adventures!
@Jesse Pratt The whiting in this video I caught were silver whiting and there is no legal size or bag limit for that species of whiting in South Australia. Yellowfin whiting like you say and I also know have a bag limit of 20 and a size limit of 24, I would never keep a undersize yellowfin whiting. The nick name is where the confusion starts silver whiting.
If I am ever up that way I shall get in touch. This is good fun in SA land based also some nice mulloway available, you have to put the hours in though. Some other nice fish out in the boats. I can imagine the fish you guys catch. Good on ya mate.
Hi David, How are you! Last two months,i got lots of leather jacket and zebra fish at metro breakwater in 2-3 meter depth. When i fish at the depth 6-7m offshore 15-20m at high tide, lots of snapper bite in 10-30cm size, of course released. Recently, there are many big sweep between 30-37cm in the north, last weekend at Port noarlunga jetty in the raising tide,I got dozens of Trevally, legal size, they are very powerful. i m fishing every weekend, hope to fishing with you. My master!
When rock fishing, i used to use a float just casting near the rock and seaweed, there are many rock fish, zebra, drummer, sweep, wrasse, leather jacket and even blue groper if lucky. HaHa
Hi lun, thats some good fishing you have been having, lots of rock species. When you say 6-7m and 15-20m offshore do you mean casting offshore or out in a boat and catching lots of snapper, if it's land based I would keep trying there it would only be a matter of time before you catch a big one. Them Trevally would have been a lot of fun nice to eat too. Yes ha ha blue groper but you never know what might surprise you sometimes. Fishing for me is getting harder now with work breeding maggots its my busy time, making sure ever one can buy them if they need too thanks for the comments mate. My master thats funny but a nice compliment.
I mean landbased snapper fishing 15-20m far offshore. in 6-7m depth. A friend of mine got lots of galfish and tommy yesterday by using maggots may from your breeding :) If you go rock fishing in the weekend. please email me ,my Master

Wow brad thats a long big effort for one fish. Maybe because there has been a lot of fishing happening over the holidays, all full up on every ones bait and burley, or simply just one of them days when nothing seems to be around. Better luck next time brad, things can definitely only get better. All the best David
Nice vid mate!😉🍻
Thanks Kym!
You look like you are having far too much fun .
The wife and I have been planning a run down there for a while now so you have just given me a nudge .
Great video David I was wondering where to buy your gents?
Hi strawberry shortcake, Try the tackle shop closest to you and you will find them there, we stock all tackle shops in South Australia. All the best mate.
Nice job men
Thank you Saadat! It was a good day.
@@davidsheldonfishing9726 plz upload the new video every week.
Hi Saadat thanks for your message mate. have been a bit slow fishing lately due to work. Hopefully soon.
Nice video man👍 you caught some cool fish🔥 new sub here!!
Thank you BassBros. I will check out some of your videos later. Cheers David
All the best and tight lines Cheers David.
nice big eye

Great vid🤟 what time of year is best for salmon?
Hi mate, hear in South Australia winter time is the prime time for salmon, they can be caught all year round depending on where you are fishing but winter time is prime time. Hopefully my videos will help you on your way. Thank you for watching.
Hi I love your videos do you have any good places to fish in Sydney
Hi Mohammed. Thankyou nice to hear you love my video's it's great to get comments like that. I wish I could help you out with your question but I'm not very familiar with sydney. All I've heard about is flathead near the airport somewhere and kingfish in the harbour and some good rock fishing around but care should be taken on the rocks. Wish I could help you more. All the best....David
@@davidsheldonfishing9726 thanks a lot and I wish your channel expand globally and all the best
There are size limits for silver whiting... they’re called yellowfin whiting and size limit is 24cm
David
Hello, did you have to pay a $ fee $ to enter the park with the 4wd? I'm thinking of heading down there myself in near future.
Thanks
@@davidsheldonfishing9726 thanks David 👍
What size line do you use? Couple nice catches you got man
Hi GilesWestbrook7 the line used for my fishing rig is 35lb SCHNEIDER KLEAR-LINE, a very good mono line made in Germany and my main line is 20lb Finns braid. thanks for watching and tight lines.
brilliant work mate, love the videos. do you ever do any land based metro fishing? im not far from seaclif and am keen for some YFW Cheers

What's the spring for above the sinker
Hi there. the spring above my sinker is called a burley spring, I squeeze pilchard into it to help attract the fish to my fishing location. I have made a video on how to make them if interested, its called. How to make a burley spring.
@@davidsheldonfishing9726 thank you so much David I'll have a look at your video on how to make them cheers
silver Whiting have a size limit of 24 cm and a bag limit of 20
Hi Patterson Core, sorry but you may be getting silver whiting confused with yellowfin whiting which have a bag limit of 20 and a size limit of 24cm.

Hi lun thankyou for your comment mate. Hope you have been getting onto some fish. Cheers David
