@@akashinda At the end of the prologue, you got your ass given to you by Big Boy (I forgot his name since he only appears, like, twice) and he stole Sir Radzig's sword. You later kill him as the first "boss" of the game and gives Sir Radzig his sword back.
Edit: Lmao nevermind Henry didn't even got his sword back in the game (God I hate the game's ending so much, at the very least have Isvan drop the sword before he rides away or something).

People seem to struggle grasping the "role" in RPG... At the start Henry can't even cut a stick in the ground, his father was very protective and he is just starting to do what he wants and attempt to learn archery/sword play. But reviewers are like "I was good at For Honor, so combat is broken".
Giving up on fighting Runt after getting beaten as bad as when he stole my sword at least a dozen times. And coming back to easily best him after training with Bernard for an hour. Was one of the most satisfying experiences I have had in an RPG.
I'm 6 hours in an have only recently started the main mission.. its gotten so bad, that Cuman groups of 5-6 is all I encounter and I have just done the basic archery training.. I walk in ti meet razzag (spelled the name wrong) after getting off my level 4 horse, with my paige sword and armor above level 20 from legs to head armor with all basic levels at 8 or above and hes like "oh you don't have a sword, armor, or a weapon! You must listen to me" nd thats when I found out I may have leveled a bit past the main mission lol
@Death Horseman oh I figured that out quickly 😂 also just traveling south to north then back down south to rattay after killing 15+bandits and cumans normally nets you between 30-50k per trip, I've gotten up to 75k from a single sale. Oh also, something ive found out is to return to skalez alot. There is a battle that resets everytime with about 5 cumans, or the black armor wearing bandits and 5 guards who when killed dosnt grant you any negative karma or reputation. They all normally have about 15k in armor on them minimum. Currently I'm level 20 in almost every single skill, 20 main level, I wear the lords of lepis armor from the tourneys because I personally love the way it looks. I know it's only the 3rd best set in the game I believe but just personally like the look, have the best sword(long and short sword) that you can purchase as well as a short sword I found that was better than the best you can buy, have the best horse in the game, every rentable house I have so I can pop in anywhere to sleep or heal if needed, one of the best shields and one of the best bows. Only thing I cant find is the damn horse armor but I dont wanna look it up online. I've done amazing so far at not looking anything up and figuring the game out myself and I'll be damned if I start now 😂
I'm good at Mordhau and I can say that combat is similiar and not forgiving, but feels rly good when u master it:D

Frank Bowen and that’s the great thing about the game, your skill in combat is equal to the time dedicated otherwise you will always be a clunky peasant.
It's funny, because these reviewers are drawing their sources from the point in the game where Henry doesn't even know how to fucking parry, let alone do a single combo.

Not really a cheat even, as this is meant to be the path of progression that you take throughout the first few missions of the game - meaning that these cucks literally wrote a review on the game before getting through a single mission past Skalitz. Amazing.
I think the huge holding your hands (while not letting you do or learn anything) and general jankiness deservedly play a part in any reviewers experience.

The game has plenty of bugs, I'll give you that, but after playing it for awhile the combat is something I've grown to love. It sucks originally, but trust me when I say it really is quite good now.

Pro Tip: Train with real weapons without wearing any gear - when injured, choose to train combos - your health will be restored. This allows you to train with real weapons without damaging your gear, saving you tons of money, and you can do this rotation indefinitely without needing to heal or repair.
That's the kind of info I wish any video in TH-cam had
Or have short real-weapon training while fully kitted and pull out your armorer/tailor/cobbler kit to repair your gear and level Maintenance.
Also I suspect that playing with game controller makes executing combos a lot easier compared to PC mouse

I just beat Bernard in my underwear when training with real weapons, it helps me grasp that armor is temporary, but F + M1 is forever.
I like this, it doesn't just show you that you're improving your combat but feels like your progressing from a untrained peasant to a fully trained soldier.
Honestly I think that this combat system is one of, if not the most impressive and strategic combat systems I've ever seen
Honestly I think it’s the biggest pile of shit I have seen, you have these mechanics which are decent but make it way to hard for someone at start who only gets two fucking tutorials on combat, then they give you quest to fight 4 people at once with bows and your defenceless because your a couple hours in and the game doesn’t have any sort of combat improvement where you become fast or hit harder. The game itself is really cool but it’s a bug fest and not a proper development title. It says just go where you want and die if you don’t practice killing innocent people for hours just to get the combat right. Tell me how the fuck am I meant to improve my characters sword play when I’m up against 4 in a fucking side quest with only little experience at the start. This game then Needs Witcher type gameplay because if this is going to have such slow movements and and really hard combat then it should be 1 v 2 MAX and not more. This should have just been an arcade game considering how inconsistent it is. This game could have had more development but seems like they wanted to shove the money up their ass too soon. Ehh another indie garbage ass title. Back to bannerlord I go
Amero The combat system is meant to be difficult. Everything in the game is about a peasant with no experience slowly gets better at different skills. If you stick with it and get better weapons and rank up your swordplay by training, the combat gets much easier. But to each their own.
It was also their first game and it was just announced that they're working on another title similar to this so expect huge leaps in advancement on their next game. They knocked it out of the park with this game.

There is a Game mechanic in KCD, where the Animation fluidity and input lag improve as your character levels up their combat skill.
What this means for the average player is the beginning of the game will be incredibly clunky, while end game is incredibly smooth.

Skaianet combat is too easy later on especially with one perk that makes you deal 50% more damage after the first kill. One on ones are also way too easy mid to late game
That is your character becoming more skilled as you become more skilled. I handed my controller over to my brother so he could try out combat at endgame, because he tried it and said it was clunky, and he was still having a hard time even at endgame and said it was still super clunky.

Plate armor turns you in walking tank, and with right perks and weapon you one-shot every enemy unless he blocks your attack.
Once I got 10 in warfare and sword I began ripping apart groups of bandits with ease.
I just use my bow for a one or two shot headshot

Just a heads up, if you want to fight him and have him attack back DON'T be wearing your armor. It will take damage as if it is getting hit by a real sword even though it is wood. Just had to pay out my ass because I left my gear on training with him xD Another heads up... repeating the Master Strike training seems to level your swordplay abnormally quickly. Nearly every time I completed that training session I leveled up... sometimes even in warfare and defense.

How long where you training with him? I never got more than a % point or 2 off my armor for a 5-10 minute long fight with him. if you used the option to do it with real swords it would chew up your armor likr a real fight but the wood ones should not.
Not very long. Maybe one or two rounds of fighting with different wooden weapons. It could have been a glitch! Or maybe a misinterpretation on my part. All I know is that I now train "naked" as all true warriors should =P
then you dont get your matience skill by fixing your armor the kits are like the repair hammers in oblivion as you can use it more than once
Agreed...My experience as well. Also taking down the bandit camps and fully looting them all , loading down your horse and yourself, and returning to Rattay, is a great way to gain fast wealth for better gear
Game reviewers need to pay attention to the game's presentation more closely and not generically apply their criticism. In the very opening scenes it is seen that Henry has 0 skill with swords! His father knows how to use sword and Sir Radzig Kobyla as well showing to the player bluntly how terrible Henry is. Just because player takes control over Henry, that doesn't mean Henry should immediately become super skilled in sword-fighting.

This game is incredible. Bugs aside, this is a massively impressive indie project. Id like this to grow bigger and receive better funding to make a major franchise.
As a fan of Rpg (elder scrolls, dark souls, witcher etc). This game is fantastic. I am 10 hrs in and look forward to coming home and playing again. How is it it gets bad reviews? You are actually the character. You live breath and work as Henry. Great job warhorse, great job!
It's important to note that combo's won't fire off if you have a shield. Especially with a longsword, and only a few of them with the Shortsword, hunting sabers and such will fire off with shields.

This game had an extremely slow start for me and honestly I wasn't liking it at all, hell I'd say I was hanging by a thread on whether I was gonna refund it or not. But once I got to Rattay and started actually making a name for my person and finally getting good at the skills the game offers it got fucking awesome. I'm so used to playing games now a days where they cater to the audience with little patience and deliver everything to you right out the gates. But actually putting real time into a game for once after not experiencing it since Skyrim really brought back some good memories at what it truly feels like to see your time pay off. Amazing game. I recommend it to everyone.

Most millennials don't have the patience to understand that the character starts as a weakling (as if the scene that shows us that Henry can't even cut a fucking twig using the best sword in the land wasn't obvious enough) before becoming hero . They're too used to hack and slash games wherein the character swings a giant word perfectly immediately with 0 experience. LOL

I’m so happy the developers thought more about the art they were making and turned this into a rewarding experience instead of pandering to the lazy bunch of cunts who cry when there not being breast fed a reward from the start. This game actually made me feel like Henry and not in the way that I was immersed in the story. It genuinely ,through the gameplay, made me experience a lot of ups and downs and even 2 years after the release it still is one of my favourite games

One of my most satisfying moments so far has been winning 1v3 against some poorly equipped bandits. It was pretty hilarious that once I beat a guy, he waited patiently in the "don't hurt me have mercy" pose whilst I beat the other guys down.

Sometimes they wait for me but most times they run off
1- Swords are really good against un-armored opponents
2- Axes & maces are really good at dispatching armored opponents
3- Clinching and Masterstrikes are the key to good combat
4- When you are good at combat, the Tourney is also very good to level your combat skills
After i learned everything from Bernard, the combat in this game made me look forward to the next time i fight one-on-one with a bandit.
This game simply is not spamming mouse 1 like in Skyrim. There is actual skill involved, and that's why i love it.

This is an RPG in the truest sense for PC / Console, you don't begin as a rock hard rambo elite killer, you start as a lay about blacksmiths son, also there is no button bashing spam attacks..(assassins creed..looking at you here..). Yes the game has a few bugs and issues on xbox 1, but it still kicks the living sh*t out of Fallout 4, ass creed, Batman etc.

Hey, I was considering buying this game for my Xbox 1 but is the game buggy and how is the frame rate? The game itself is right up my alley but I don’t want to play a buggy mess like Friday the 13th.
It has a few bugs now and then but nothing game breaking and the frame rate is pretty steady, you might get an odd stutter for a second on rare occasion. I would highly recommend it, it is as immersive as hell.

The difficult start makes it more rewarding the longer you play and this is how every game should be. It gives you hard challanges and beating them is a great experience and gives you a good mood every time. This is the most enjoyable game I ever played. And don't even mention the best quest ever. I'll do it anyways (father Godwin).
After being bored with skyrims combat system I just gotta say I LOVE this combat system. You have to actually look where they’re holding their sword/shield before striking or lunging, and combo strikes to be able to take one more than one person. No more hacking and slashing, it’s parrying bandits and combo their asses before they get a hit on you.
Yall ever get the combat glitch where he does backflips in combat or the one where his head just spins around backwards when you lock onto someone
My issue with combat in the game is that I always forget about combos, like I barely use them and when I try to, the enemy just counterattacks it, I mostly just swing until I hit them, bandits can barely fight, but Bernard is like superhuman lmao.
This is one of the only games I've ever played where the focus is more on the player improving their skills rather than just watching the character improve.
It's more like Henry is a reflection of your skills and choices rather than you following him through his story.
Wow the amount of people bitching about clunky combat, really got spoilt by other games. You are a peasant without proper sword fighting experience, and you expect to be a sword god at the start? xlaZuRelx it's not like any other rpg is any smoother either. Skyrim and such has the same 3 or 4 combat swing animations for the whole game, theres no finesse or technique, just hack n slash. You have to mod skyrim for there to be a sense of difficulty or skill in skyrim, otherwise it's hack n slash

Also, fighting Bernard can help you improve your maintenance skill. Practice swords do very little damage to your armour/clothes, and these minor damages are easily repaired even with low skill.
For bandit crowd control, use Better Piercing Arrows + Doll Maker potion.
Shooting at the bandit's legs, when they have gotten afflicted by the Doll Maker potion, they can only walk toward Henry. You can kill off some bandits and do sword fighting 1-on-1 with any bandit.
Came back to this game since finding out they added a simplified lockpicking mechanic on console, loving this game now that I'm not stuck in the tutorial because I have no lockpicks
In the beginning of the game when you meet zbyszack again to get the shovel from him. Use your weapon and attack his leg making him run slower. Then get in front of him and keep swinging your weapon. He will not die, he will take damage and he will give you A LOT more experience in Strength, Agility, any weapons. Just know though if you press any buttons to look at your inventory or map he will teleport away making you lose your chance to level those. You can also attack the bandit generals legs too so that it is allot harder for him to attack you and you can get another chance to attack zbyszack or the other bandits.

Just started this game (I’m old, cheap, and have kids), and this video is a big help.
Thanks for the info. I struggled with it for a while until I tried the practice thing with Bernard. It is coming around for me. I got pretty far with low stats by shooting everyone in the face with arrows. I killed the 4 guys looking for Timmy by jumping on a box where no one could hit me and filling their faces with arrows. I killed the boss in the first big battle to the north by running around and putting arrows right in his mouth. I am on an uber 1080ti PC with a 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor at maximum settings. I am seeing between 50 and 30 FPS. This game just CRUSHES top computers but it is amazingly beautiful.
Tfw when you lose a fight to two unarmed bandits while you're fully armoured and wielding a sword
I've noticed when playing this on pc, that you should have your Xbox controller conetted and always on.
Using a mouse and keyboard for fighting is horrible, so switch 2 the controller.
Use the mouse for lock picking it's lovely.
And use the keyboard for hit keys/navigating through the menus.
Love it.
If you want level up maintance as well as your combat stats, train unarmed combat with Captain Bernard. He cannot really damage your clothes to an extent in which you can't repair it with a kit by yourself, unless you fight for too long. Also, when you get a perfect block, you actually dodge. This levels agility and defense at the same time, which is very pleasant. Some missions also have unarmed fighting so you don't kill someone.
You can also do training combat with a practice weapon. That regimen is endless and you are free to use any kind of combos you wish.
I wish I'd seen this video when I first started this game and was confused by the combat system. Great video.

This game is hardcore, and goes pretty deep. Sad to see reviewers giving this game a bad score for whatever reason. Especially when games these days just hold your hand, this game doesnt and I love it.

It takes a practice to be decent in this game and even still you have to pick your battles getting surrounded will kill even an endgame character. it's probably the most realistic combat system out right now and makes for an awesome medieval sim

You forgot to mention that learning "Master strikes" from Bernard's menu is a must. It is way more crucial feature to get you opponents down, especially when you fight several of them at the same time. You have to advance in main quest for that a bit though to unlock this option (save Hans from cumans if I recall correctly).

At the point i am at combo are useless i one shot most enemies with one riposte. I grabbed the serrated edge and blacksmith son perk, i add poison on my sword too and nobody survives more than one or two hits. Also for combos to really work you have to get the enemies in a specific position, if you notice when you fight the reticule will turn white in a direction. This is to perform the combo, if you get them all and no hits are blocked.
QcLaRacaille Yeah, the game gets too easy later on. I took out about half the people and monks in Sasau and the monastery and all the guards with ease. Also earning money is too easy.

Game is brutally hard in the beginning but absolutely amazing once uve mastered the mechanics.
I think the reason why quite a few gamers don’t like it is because they have never practiced any kind of combat. Henry has just a couple lessons at the start, you can’t beat anybody who has actually trained with their weapon. You are slow, you don’t have good edge alignment etc. Once you train quite a bit, you can beat almost anyone you meet aside from those who are equal to you and masters. That is how it is in real life. If you become a master yourself, almost no one can defeat you aside from those who are your equals. That is pretty much how it is in real life too. You’ll still die to swarms though. I like that enemies parry me mid combos instead of just letting me complete the move. It feels like my opponent is reacting to what’s going on, like a real trained swordsman. Skyrim has us so conditioned to NPC’s that are unresponsive and let you hack away at will, and let’s you chug mid combat. A gamer who thinks that is a better system just wants an easier game. That’s not a bad thing though.
My criticism is that enemies are not aggressive enough, especially in groups. They attack me one at a time like a bad ninja movie. I love this game though.
Captain Bernard will create new holes in you if you're not quick. This games makes me appreciate not being stuck with a sword in real life.
the only bug i've been having lately is when I'm in combat with a few bandits and i'm walking backwards to keep them from surrounding me, Henry all of a sudden turns into a squirell and starts running up a tree before sliding down
people just gotta practice and learn, its an RPG you role play which means YOU the player have to practice to actually get good. The sword play is so rewarding
This game isn't like Skyrim where the animations and controls never change and leveling up just means more damage. In KCD increasing your skill literally makes your controls work better. You have more time to riposte or dodge or set up combos when your skill level is higher than your target, and less when your skill level is lower. So when you are starting out it absolutely feels clunky and unresponsive because they DESIGNED it to be clunky and unresponsive, and later on you stab people in the face over and over again like nothing because the AI is literally reacting more slowly.
i didn't hate the combat on this game but i definitely hated the camera on combat,it doesn't know what character to lock in,it doesn't lock in the character that it's attacking me when there's more then 2 person attacking me,it get's stuck on characters in front of you when there's like 2 behind attacking without stoping,and that really pissed me off on my gameplay,i play on pc and getting your camera stuck in 1 enemy whille fighting 4 it's really annoying.But i do like the combat system on this game,it's not perfect but it's cool to lean how to actually be good with your sword.
I'm slowly overcoming the combat difficulty at start, though it took me about eight tries after upgrading to a better sword and a bit of armor (what I could afford) to beat two bandits. Shortly after, though, it only took three tries to take down a camp leader. The biggest problem I'm having is a glitch. Because of the two or three people attacking you at once, I'm constantly backpeddalling to prevent them from both attacking me on my flanks, and every time I do this in the woods, I literally back UP a tree, at which point I take damage coming down. Very frustrating, if not funny. I was getting mad at the game at first, but now that I'm making progress and can whip up some savior schnapps (to save the game), I'm enjoying it much more.
there is a glitch with the character kanush in the prologue where you can takedown him then swing an axe at him obtained from another takedowned villager your strength, agility, warfare, vitality and main level will go up
Very good review and you are correct about the combat system being skill based. I need to now upgrade my mace skill as I'm running into guys with very heavy armor.
agreed. prefer to use mace weapons as they hurt medium armor guys well too.

No lol this game is based on what your stats are. As long as you unlock master strikes and grind some levels the game is going to be a breeze. There is not much skill involved

Here a tip, if you do a UP stab, in this case you look up but not slash, stab, it's gonna stab in the head and it's can't be master strike, only perfect block, so you can just spam it until your enemy die, also work with captan Benard when you gonna learn the master strike, instead of attack him in any direction, you do the UP stab, he will never block and you can easily level up you weapon level, it's don't work with longsword, only with shortswords, axe and maces :)
Veeeedy Guuuid! I had no idea you could exploit CPT Bernard like that. I always figured my character would break bones or take some kind of damage from the constant training. I guess i was afraid of the level of realism that may be lurking in the game.

I would like to see a PvP duel mode in this game. Maybe even a 3v3 mode. Simply an amazing game as far as role-playing and combat gameplay
My current technic is to stab with a sword as often as I can. Also the war hammers are very op just a side note.
I did my research on this game knowing I would suck at everything in the beginning. Which I did. So I trained and trained and now I kick ass😉
The only problem I face, I can't seem get into the rhythm of things. Without resorting to button mashing. Truth is, even though my bow levels are currently at 2 and my sword at 6, I still killed more bandits using a bow with poisoned arrows then actually swordfighting them. Though I just finished quite a few bastard/short sword training session with Bernhard, he still shows me every corner of the arena. But I won't give up.

Trained with Bernard, suddenly I saw a pesant in the back running away in panic, finished training and right after that Bernard drew his sword and wanted me to surrender for braking the peace....
Bernard also arrested me after training; the training stopped like 0.1 second after I took my last swing so I hit him when his guard was down, he didn't like that very much.

Captain Bernard never comes back from the horse stable in The First beginning of the game he goes there in the morning and come back at night never stopping at the combat Arena
My only complaint was the combat that's why I looked up tips and didn't write a shit review cuz this game is still amazing even tho I suck at combat. Great video I turned on my system and put it in I'm ready to get back in
Once you learn combos, the master stroke and get a bit of gear and stats it all starts to work well for you and a bit later the difficulty becomes a joke
The combat on pc is a solid 9.5, It’s like real life, your not just gonna pick up a sword for the first time and beat a master swordsman of even someone who had only a few years of experience, you have to literally train your fingers and identification skills of when to attack and defend
Training with captain bernard in rattay arena is the fastest way.

What I hate about the combo is when I'm accidentally switching to another opponents because I moved my mouse too far from the nano space the game gives you.
Oh and more than 2 guys? Not gonna happen they nailed this. The enemies always try to surround me and with the limited field of view from the game's engine, that's death and restart written all over me.

Some of them are respectable opinions on how they think the game is not what they want it to be , or how think it should be. Only SOME of them , then what are the rest ?

Everyone plays games to have fun , and if you can't have a fun with the game BECAUSE it's TOO HARD FOR YOU that you can't have fun , then it's not the game's fault yo

Because leaving bad review on the game because of how bad you play it , is basically blaming the game for no reason.
KCD aside , i did mention Dark souls , dark souls is one of a hell to progress trough , it's fucking hard , but it's a good game , the satisfaction of accomplishing something , the FeelsGoodMan on completing storyline, and how come does no one leaves bad review on steam about how hard the fucking bosses are , because they've seen it being possible to fight , thegame is known to be hard as fuck and they've seen how many peoples have proven that the game is obviously possible and have completed the game like to NG+7
So complaining about DS series about how hard the bosses are and stuff , is just like showing everyone how bad they're which casuals really don't want to , they want everything to be perfect for them , not hard for them , and be looked as a pro

DS3 was my first souls game. Took me over an hour to beat Gundy. Now I do it without taking a single hit every time. Those reviewers need to take a page from Dark Souls and git gud!
Just to here to sau that I completly agree. Xombat is SUPPOSED to get "easier" and rewarding. It is all abput immersion, you start as a peasant and need to train to become an effective fighter, unlike skyrim (which is also an amazing game)
3.5 * out of 5 needs improvement in areas one that is possibly game breaking (guards can ask to search you while you're game is loading right after you see sir what'sHisFace and leave the Lord's hall while you're on a time sensitive quest and have little gold to pay any fine)
I gave up on the combat and am now playing this game as a nature walking simulator.
What If u activate the quest where he and the soldiers go to Neuhof so U can't train with him for that period. And I can't complete the quest bc I can't fight 1v4....
