  • In the final part of our buying a house in Portugal series we'll show you the first time we viewed the house we ultimately ended up buying. In it's raw form - almost unedited - we'll show you exactly what we saw in mid-September, two years ago.
We'll also give you a sneak peek inside the roof space to show you something special and wrap things up with some final thoughts on the buying property in Portugal experience.

I think everyone who watches your videos will agree with how hard you have both worked getting to the stage where you're at. Having watched all of them I was surprised at how overgrown the garden was when you moved in.
It's been great watching your journey and I wish you all the best.

The size of this lot is perfect for two people. Once your renovations are finished, it will keep you busy to achieve a measure of self-sufficiency. Did you say that you only work about 2 days on the renovations? That could be another topic for the question session: how much time do you allot for Reno, garden, research, housework, etc. Do you take proper weekends, breaks, 8 Hour Day?

I bet that property was idyllic in it's heyday. You could almost feel the previous owners. Glad you're making it shine again. Bougainvillea through the opening window was a master shot.

I found you when you were ripping out. I thought, OMG! 😮 I didn’t see you finding the property. What a jewel! I can now see what a beauty it actually is. You will be so happy to live out your days there in your castle you’ve made just the way you like. That attic area is dreamy. I’d never seen it. Thank you for this adventure back in time.

I think that the threshing circle would make a lovely craft room/workshop once you have moved into the house. Unless you build a circular greenhouse, but do you really want a greenhouse. I can see why you bought it, who wouldn't buy that house, so much protentional. It oozes character and with the work that you have done you have more than likely doubled its value. You have answered so many questions with just this video. You have to ask though is the effort worth it and before you answer, I say yes without any doubt. You were meant for this house and this house was meant for you. Thanks for posting

We have an even better plan for the threshing circle (in our opinion) but that’s many years away yet.

The two of you have accomplished an enormous amount of improvement on this place in the two years you've been there, especially since you have your other activities that take up much of your time. But a lot of the major work is now behind you, and hopefully there will be less heavy labor to do and time for more of the fun stuff. Having said that, I think you got some enjoyment from even the hard work, and certainly a lot of satisfaction. Already you can survey your property with a glass of wine in hand, say "We did that", and smile.

You could open up for like 2-4 people at a time to come and see what you are doing in person, learn from y'all, and help you with the work. As long as they cover their own costs at a minimum it would help you. You could even do like 200-400 euro on top for the training you give.
Just an idea to help y'all get the job done.
Another one is to work with people in the community to do some of the research, design, and planning on projects for you. Then you two review what was delivered like Master planners. That could save you a lot of time as well, so more time is actually doing the projects

As soon as I saw the realtor fiddling with the lock at the gate, I could tell why you love the property. Having all those mature fruit trees is such a bonus. Being a Floridian, I can say there's nothing like fresh citrus! I think you made a very nice choice, though it would be nice if you had a tad more land you could designate for animals. It’s amazing how nice the homes conditions looks in the video. Wise to have an inspector look over the home. A small tractor with a few implements will save you tons of work on the land and more importantly time! I really love those arbor’s or concrete frames that are for grapes or some kind of vines. I would need to hire out most of the work if I were to take on a refurbishment of a home or farm. I’m not physically able to do what your doing at the pace your planning but my mind is racing. Still have my imagination hahaha.
Do either or both of you speak Portuguese? That’s another issue for me .

Have you ever thought about equipping the path with the concrete posts with a solar roof bit by bit as the money lasts? = Haben Sie schon einmal daran gedacht, den Weg mit den Betonpfählen Stück für Stück mit einem Solardach auszustatten, solange das Geld reicht?

Thanks for posting your videos, you are showing how hard it is for someone from a non building background to rebuild a neglected property, top marks to you two , you are showing what can be done , keep up the good work and enjoy , and keep posting
