      Hey Gabriel, I am an mma practitioner but in striking I love using kicks (I never focus on hands), should I change my style or just keep going?

    Thanks for the great info Mr Varga! I have no aspirations of becoming a pro level fighter at nearly 46 years old and having just started kickboxing a few months ago. However, I have a REALLY strong desire to be the best mid-40s kickboxer I can be in my gym and in my area. And I want to fight at least one organized, official, all-out, all-in, give it all I got fight before I'm too old and broken to engage with it. Your tips, tricks, training strategies, and videos are very helpful and have helped improve my skills and fitness rapidly in conjunction with supervision and instruction from my sensei/trainer. Thanks!

      That's pretty impressive. I'm 46 and athletic, myself, and am wanting to learn just to get my striking down. Would be fun to watch others compete, though.

    Do you think it’s possible to get really good at two sports I currently do Muay Thai and wrestling( I have a background in boxing I started boxing at 13 and I’m picking up muay Thai fairly well)

    • @GabrielVargaOfficial
      @GabrielVargaOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I do. Obviously you'd do better putting all your focus into one but I think you can still do great at 2.
      And it's nice to mix up your activities. Makes you a more proficient martial artist.

    1 Be good with hand combination and finish with kick dutch style
    2. Often use the mirror for self correction
    3. Identify strengths and weaknesses. Add variety of situations of applying the strengths and drill the weaknesses so it becomes less of a issue.

    Thankyou soo much gabreal.. I look up to u. I have been working on kyokushin for years now and will transition to kickboxing. But something that bothers me is my flat feet and knocked knees.. I have been doin exercises to improve my condition and is very minimal now. But still the minor knocked knees and flat feet worry me if it will hold be back from going pro. Can you please make a video on expressing abt all the fighters out there who want to go pro but have minor issues like flat feet and knocked knees.. it's an honor.. ur truly inspiring 🙏

    I totally agree with the mirror suggestion. The only downside, which happens all the time, is they get broken by someone hitting it one way or another.

    Hey Gabe, I’ve recently joined a kick-boxing/MMA gym and one thing I noticed that in our group classes, the coach makes us do combos with partners (on gloves), but hasn’t really taught us or given us a class on the fundamentals. He just expects us to know? How to throw a jab, cross, hook, roundhouse, etc. is this how group classes are conducted? Mind you, my coach is a professional fighter and has been for 25 years and coaches many athletes here who are currently fighting. Is this a sign that, even tho he knows everything, he just doesn’t know how to properly coach, or should I just stay patient or should I go for personal sessions? I don’t want to dish out money if I’m not getting quality training so would love to hear feedback!
    Also, we don’t have separate classes for different levels, like beginner, intermediate and advanced. It’s all in one group, different time slots

    • @champ1159
      @champ1159 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was like that for me too in my first 2 gyms, I mainly just got fundamental tips from my partner then we'd do combos/drills while the coach points out flaws in the techniques so we could fix them

      Kind of in a similar situation with my new Muay Thai lessons. Following for an answer...
      My guess is to follow group class to get in shape then go from time to time with another personnal coach to perfection my techniques. I found one in Muay Thai that was a Canadian champion a couple years ago and he happens to live near my home. So I will eventualy go seewhathe can add to my training from his perspective and experiences.

      @@champ1159 I had my first kick-boxing session today, I was training in MMA for the past 1 1/2 weeks. We did combos today and being a beginner, idk if I was doing it correctly, but coach wasn’t pointing out any flaws. We were just going with the flow.

      @@mistral-unizion-music yeah, would love if you could follow up on that and tell what he says or if he has any advice.

    • @CallousCarter

      That's pretty normal in my experience. It's very hard for a coach to tailor every session to every member of the class and a lot of technique comes from repetition and building up muscle memory anyway. My gym has two coaches for Kickboxing so if there's new people they'll go with one of the coaches and work on the very basics for 1 or 2 sessions but after that they just get thrown in with the rest of us (for drills not for sparring) because you'll pick it up through doing.
      Some gym's might have beginner or fundamentals classes. If you book private sessions you also might get it paired back to the more basics but you'll learn through doing the combos anyway specially when the coach or more experienced guy gives you a few technique pointers on how to do it better e.g. pivot more on your roundhouse, get your elbow higher on your hook, twist from your backfoot for your straight etc.
      My advice would be to take those pointers seriously in drilling and slow it down and really focus on them, I'm a southpaw and since I had to adjust a lot of the drills anyway because of that I didn't take those tips too seriously and just tried to work it out in sparring and as a consequence my game is a bit janky and limited.
