Always liked the irony in Squall having a thing for lions versus say, wolves. Lone wolves are a popular (if misnamed) trope, but lions only work as well as they do in a *pride* with others.
Well, in the course of the game he goes from lone wolf to the head of a lion pride. He learns the value of relying and caring about others. Remember the options and speech during the Gardens fight? FFS, he carried Riona halfway across the world on foot. That's some character work right there. A theme that was well carried into FF9 too, Zidane also has that evolution.
The name of this song has always caught my eye. Griever has always been Squall’s idol, the main thing he looks up to. He says lions are known for thier “pride and strength” and he’s constantly chasing this impossible standard to be brave and strong and invincible. The only way he knows how to achieve this standard is to fight, bleed, and be alone, until he meets Rinoa. Thats why he fights Seifer, thats why he can’t back away, he fights to prove himself worthy, to show himself that he is good enough, that he is a lion. Bleeding for the sake of finding worth is a story i know far too well. Thats why Squall is my ultimate comfort character, because I’ve never related to anyone like I’ve related to him. He got me through a lot….

"Maybe I'm a lion" personally to me was "Maybe I CAN do it" throwing all people's view of yourself and capabilities to the wall - and I'm happy to say I did do that :) I guess the impossible standard is the same actually. I love this piece and I love this remake. It's the drums.

If Griever would've reappeared in FF16, it would be awesome to have an Ifrit vs Griever fight with this playing in the background, especially since Ifrit looked and even sounded lion in FF8 😊🔥🦁

This is beyond amazing! I've been waiting for this one for ages. I do have a couple of suggestions for future remakes: The song "Legendary Beast" from Final Fantasy VIII, which plays when you fight against Griever in the final boss battle. The final boss battle music (also known as "Grand Cross") from Final Fantasy IX where you fight against Necron. It is, without a doubt, one of my favourite pieces of music from the franchise. Keep up the awesome work!
