you are permanently changing the structure of your (existing) hairs. yes it may lose a bit of its curl and you'll grow out your natural hair in the meantime as well but i find that even 1 year later the permed hair is noticeably more wavy/curly than normal hair. maybe not the same as day 1 but much more so. I would say the sweet zone (i mean depends what youre going for) is 4-8 months.

I recommend Bumble & Bumble they have great quality products for natural curly hair / perms (White and purple containers). My routines were every other day using their shampoo and conditioner. Every day would use the definition cream, if my hair looked too puffy / frizzy I would use the reactivator. There were days were sometimes (rarely) I had to use a mousse to help it looking fresh and natural too. I did a lot of research and my trimming sessions were only 2 - the first one was in the second month of the perm lifecycle and the last trim was at the end of it’s life cycle (4th month). I did go a little more on the tighter curls side btw compared to my previous perms. Hope this helps!!
