The Birds-of-Paradise Project reveals the astounding beauty of 39 of the most exquisitely specialized animals on earth. After 8 years and 18 expeditions to New Guinea, Australia, and nearby islands, Cornell Lab scientist Ed Scholes and National Geographic photojournalist Tim Laman succeeded in capturing images of all 39 species in the bird-of-paradise family for the first time ever. This trailer gives a sense of their monumental undertaking and the spectacular footage that resulted. Filmed by Tim Laman, Ed Scholes, and Eric Liner. Produced and Edited by Eric Liner.

It is good to remember that New Guinea is not just an extremely unique hotspot of biodiversity and explosive beauty, in cultural terms it is also a very unique place, one that is home to a vast variety of native cultures, and that also has the richest and most diverse linguistic variety on earth! when I saw this special on pbs many years ago in the 1990's I fell instantly in love I knew I was witnessing something very special like no where else on earth .
The birds of paradise are there to give us a glimps into what the wonders of the real paradise will be like, the likes of which no eye has seen nor any ear has heard of nor has any heart even though about it,

Since I discovered this channel, I watch it nearly everyday. The beauty, splendor, magnificence, and glamour of the birds of paradise are so astonishing and amazing. I can not imagine that these extremely beautiful birds will one day go extinct due to greed and selfishness of human beings. Thanks a million times to the photographers and sponsors of such amazing documentaries. One thing I really appreciate these birds for is the diplomacy (dancing and display skills) they apply to seduce their potential mates. If the mate is not convinced, she flies away for a more convincing guy. Meanwhile the guy remains in peace and will try his luck another time. I wish human beings were like these birds.

I will never forget the first time I saw these in a David Attenborough special and I don’t think I closed my mouth the whole hour because I was just completely gobsmacked. I sure hope God has these in heaven because among the bird kingdom they are the most exquisite, fascinating and beautiful birds he created.
