I cannot understand why there are only 281 likes out of thousands of views. Maybe he is too clever for some or they don't like his overuse of the "F" word. Anyway I think he should be rediscovered, even though his yoythful good looks have faded! Sent 11:57
This is from 1994, Robert Newman's last performance seems to be History of Oil from 2007 ~ the pinnacle of his work, possibly the single best standup performance I've ever seen and the one I keep linking to all my friends to watch ... Robert Newman - History of Oil ... after that, he seems to have dropped off the grid, stopped performing ~ anyone know what happened to him?
Don - his name was Woody Bop Muddy and his Record Graveyard! I am a standup myself and gigged with him about five years ago in Bournemouth. He is still about doing a lot of festivals :-)
You see that Rob Newman...he used to be in a show called the mary Whitehouse experience and was very funny...i thought of the 4 of them he would be the one to make it big but the other 3 did and he was just disappeared 😜
Around 5:45 or so, when he mentions Prince, someone in the crowd shouts out "nail it!" - this is a reference to the warm up act Rob had on at least one of his tours who nailed records to a board. Does anyone know the name of the comedian who did that? He had an awful haircut, shades, and a joke about The Carpenters that everyone booed. I've been trying to put a name to his brand of rubbish comedy for ages
Message to moodini99 - Ref: Rob Newman. You need to educate yourself. Not only have you completely neglected to interpret the obvious comical satire used by Rob Newman, you have also failed to see his use of comedy in politics and social life!
+Philip Smillie You're cool. Respect! His later work goes into political rhetoric 'History Of Oil' 'From the Caliban to the Taliban' A brave move away from comedy rock 'n roll to serious polemic with comic asides.Worth checking out.
Jesus the guy only said he didn't enjoy it and that he might give him another try and then you pull the intellectual snobbery card without any reason. way to cast that first stone
Newman is the same age as myself. I just don't see what's hilarious about his performance. His work with Baddiel, 'History Today' was genuinley funny. At university we all seeked out 'something new' (like Ben Elton a decade before) but watch Ben Elton now and you'll find it hard to belly-laugh (unlike his work on Black Adder, for example) Newman's audience is predominantly young female, judging by the sound of the laughs that he's getting from the front row and beyond, who are probably uni background. Please, somebody, convinvce me otherwise by relaying a line of his script in your comment that you find so funny that you scream out laughing...
Pippykins you can see Rob really loved playing jarvis, he became that sleazy aristocrate preying on the weak with ease, you could see his anti establishment leanings even back then in retrospect, I didnt notice at the time,. Ive watched loads of his talks/comedy shows on YT, really well researched, loved the history of oil show he did, a very smart guy, does he still tour?
I still have this on VHS despite not having a VHS player anymore. Thank you to the uploader.
I hadn't come across this one...many thanks for uploading. Robert is legend.

He is still touring / working in comedy. He is also an author.

Thanks, John. And you are right. It was the original message that got to me. I should have counted to ten before replying.
