I've been using altium for a while now, and these basics here are the key fundamentals. Everything else can built on top of this foundation. Lmao you went through this concise and clear. While, yes rhwre is much more to this software, this tutorial is great for anyone seeking to get started in this industry.
Great video as always, finally had to take the plunge to jump over to Altium as it seems to be the only software capable of doing polar coordinates well.
Any chance you could do a tutorial on panelizing PCB's? Especially when you have 2 or 3 different PCB's in a project that you want to put together on a single panel. including rails for the production line, v-scoring, mouse bites etc. I've not has much luck finding any good video tutorials and your lessons are so clear and detailed I'm sure you would totally nail it. It would be really helpful to a lot of people ... well, me anyway.
Wow wow wow Wish I could give more likes Now basic is done and I can practice One request Can you make arduino PCB also Most used and best design for next step Loved this video Thanks again
I love Phil and I have watched almost every video from him. I would love to use Altium but there is just no way with the price. For a small start up without external funding it's just a hard no. Such a shame. Also, I'm a big fan of Zach and his whiteboard videos on this channel.
Thanks and Phil is definitely a cool guy! Have you ever thought of using Circuit Maker? If you ever upgrade to AD your projects will directly transfer over into the standard Altium file format, no headaches with using a translator.
@@Zachariah-Peterson Thank you for your answer. Sure, I've looked into CM, but the pros of the open source alternatives do outweigh the cons of CM for us. What I would love to see is more gradular pricing unlocking more and more features, which I'm sure is not going to happen, but hey, one can dream, right? But I'm sure that someday we will get the required money to start using Altium. So until then, I'll just arm myself with patience.
i can't see the obvious 5v and ground in 2nd dimension. can anyone help me to what i should press to see and wiring the 5v. in the video said to press ctrl+w, but that just make a line
Thank you for your great tutorial. I was able to follow up on most of them but I had some issues with the vias. My vias look different. I had some cross holes at the bottom layer instead of the solid fill. I replayed it multiple times but couldn't figure out what I did wrong. My Altium version is 23.2.1 (build34). Do you have any suggestions to fix my issues?
First, make sure you set the via size under the Routing -> Via Style rule. To eliminate the thermal connection, you also have to set the Plane Connect and Polygon Connect rules to Direct, that will ensure that the polygon/plane are always directly connecting to the vias/through-holes. You can also change thermal connections for specific vias/pads by selecting the object and using the properties panel, in that panel there will be an option for Thermal Relief.
@@Zachariah-Peterson Indeed, It seems like the Polygon connection rule makes difference ( Reflief connection (Default) to Direct ). If Altium Academy instructors share their configurations with some link to download (I am not sure Altium design has the features to export and import configurations although), it would be really helpful for beginner to duplicate their results.
@cheolhongan3470 If you go to some of the tutorial videos there are links to download the design files. Take a look at the USB to UART bridge tutorial for this.
Loved all the handy shortcuts peppered throughout the video!
Glad you liked it!
Straight forward and to the point. Thanks dear 👍

Great tutorial! My team is switching over from KiCad, so great to get up to speed with how to do our normal tasks but in Altium!
A very well made video with a perfect pace. Good inspiration!
Amazing tutorial to get started with Altium. Straight to the point!
What a great, smooth, concise, and helpful explanation. I really appreciate your great job. BIG LIKE.
Nice, Phil is here!
The best one I have yet. Excellent and thanks.
Wow, thanks!
Insanely good introduction video, thank you!

Glad to hear that!

Thank you very much Phil 👍

How many people accidentally closed the video with Ctrl + W.
Yh it's annoying fr
very nice and good
very good for beginners
Alternative if "P" as a shortcut isn't functioning?
Great tutorial!
I had an issue. The option Rules doesn't appear in the Design tab. Does anyone know how to make it appear?
Same here...
@@pablogarcia636 while creating new project, by default constraint option is checked, make it unchecked and works
*OBVIOUS suggestion: When doing that Altium PCB project validation there should be some indication that completed without any issues*
That was awesome. Thanks

I had some errors like unconnected nets from top to ground, I don't get why
very nice
Thank you

hi Phil very very thankfully to you but start session is slow do because I have understood
The pace is so fast that even someone who knows the software will get confused.
Even at .25x it is fast af
right from the Bottom layer , its gets distracting, My design does something weird, Couldn't complete it :(
please need to be new example from your side PCB multilayer board design I am really needed as soon as possible
