I mean Captain Rex was still using his same pistols 15 years later when he joined the rebellion. That’s a pretty solid rank in the durability department

The LAAT has too many weapons system, it's a weapon of intensive war and is not adapted to the new low intensity conflict the empire was fighting. The empire went back to some of the heavyily armed weapons of the clone wars during the galactic civil war. They get better weaponry between ANH and RoS, and you can even see the result of a new war doctrine in the weapons introduced by the Mandalorian. But the LAAT was overkill for the time. It had as you said four mini death stars.

@@gregbalisong4203, you've never heard them referred to as something like, I don't know, the "Rebel Alliance" or the "Alliance to Restore the Republic" or something like that? Because they mention it on this channel all the time.
For the AT-TE I love how on Ryloth it shows one taking two heavy bolts to its side and when it goes to the night scene when they are approaching the village two scorch marks can be seen where it got hit earlier
The UT-AT is essentially a larger version of the Saber Tank. Repulsor-lift: check, heavy cannons: check, practically no blind spots: check. Three mass drivers and 4 point defense guns. With a little bit of improvement, the empire could turn it into an immensely improved AT-TE.
The V-Wing would have been the best fighter for the Empire, it is sleek, small, nimble, reasonably priced and very well armed. If you played Republic at War you know that when venators start to release swarms of these fighters the battle is going to end as Republic victory
@@hk1371 He is edgelord. He think he is serious. And yes. Empire should develop V-Wing and Z-95 (X-Wing) alongside TIE. TIE was excellent post-Clone Wars. But focusing on its gimmicky modular design, locked Empire without alternatives, when flaws of TIE become more clear (I still would use it on small escort carriers, but not the SD's). It take Empire some time to redevelop TIE in line comparable to Rebels. But due to resource shortages, it didn't happen until after the Endor. If Empire would have TIE Punisher, TIE Aggressor, TIE Interceptor, TIE Advance and TIE Defender earlier. Rebellion would be dead.
What’s really sad is that clones who got too old in the age of the empire were turned into cyborgs as their organic parts stopped working, clones however were trained to hate droids from a very young age and unfortunately got turned into one
also cuz the senate outlawed battle droids and until a new hope Palpatine had to 'obey' the senate's laws and not mass deploy them to appease the senate, but of course it's Palpatine so he had research done in secret.
I think there's more to it than that... sweeping away the droids and clones of the war to train ordinary recruits as military personnel was as much about instilling military levels of obedience into the existing population as it was about creating an effective fighting force- so conscripting civilians into the new stormtrooper corps was a key part of asserting the dominance of the newly formed empire
Also, as a fascist state, in order to get the people invested and believe in the government, you actually encourage recruitment to the military. To give people who joined a sense of pride and patriotism for their government, and for those who don’t have at least a family member in the military so they have some investment in it
Played in a Arma3 Star wars milsim group, the LAAT is the most useful and overpower vehicle we used, it did everything extremely well. Close air support, anti-air, transportation of goods and troops. It was like mixing an A-10 with a Huey, with the ability to also shoot AA missiles. The empire abandoning it was a huge mistake.
No room for them with the mass produced Imperial tech. Plus the Empire wasn't fighting a war. It was an occupational force meant to dissuade resistance and punish disobedience.
About the LAAT, it was retired because it was an intensive war vehicle, used for a specific type of warfare. It would not be needed for at least 15 to 20 years after the end of the clone war. It must be really expensive to use and maintain in fighting condition as it is really full of complex weapon systems. The best example I have are the LCVP landers used during WW2 during D-day and many amphibious battles. They were introduced in 1941 and were barely used after the end of the war except by the french during the late forties. This weapon was designed for a specific war and not suitable for the era to follow. I know the LAAT was cool but it doesn't seem it fits the post war Empire new doctrine. It would have been expensive and impratical to keep in the docks for a hypothetical high intensity war in 20 years. Also it always striked me as a troop transport or deployment platform for smaller vehicles but it doesn't seem to have the same cargo carrying ability of the imperial shuttle. The empire didn't need expensive hyper armed ships, they had their Star destroyer doing all the heavy lifting on the propaganda and heavy weapon front.
@@arthurbriand2175 Yeah ISD's don't have the same hangar space as Republic had with Venators. So they had to choose between keeping fighter squadrons or keeping assault transports. Venators are also capable of planet landings which ISD lacked and needed most. Because later in the civil war they couldn't deploy troops as quick and much as they needed to be. "the same cargo carrying ability of the imperial shuttle" ISD pretty much covers that also. LAAT provides air superiority as well which Empire didn't need up until Civil War so hypothetically it was a right decision to phase out LAAT. LAAT can carry AT-RT or LAAT/c can deploy AT-TE to the front speaking of which AT-TE was also retired in favor of AT-AT but we don't know either LAAT or AT-TE retired first. But they complete each other. So LAAT/c incapable of carrying AT-AT thus making it obsolete. So they came up with Y-85 Titan dropship which does exactly what LAAT did while carrying 4 AT-ST (AT-RT replacement) and 4 AT-AT (AT-TE replacement) to the planet. As well as Y-45 armored transport hauler but both were slow and vulnerable compared to LAAT. Again LAAT is for mobile warfare blitzkrieg tactics and Imperial crafts are about establishing fear, terror, doing propoganda as well as enforcing order. ISD is about sustaining for longer periods of time without resupply, securing routes and planets. So I doubt they ever considered quick and mass deployment.
I know that a lot of designs are usually cut for budget (logic wise) but whenever I hear something that got decommissioned due to extensive costs, they built 2 death stars. Since both death stars weren't that big compared to a planet/moon, I'm pretty sure they could've kept them, the only reason anything gets decommissioned is because A) It resembles something/someone we(the Empire/Emperor) don't like B) Doesn't fit the doctrine C) Empire like big stuff not small stuff Another thing, clone troopers are still very much so more deadly than stormtroopers, but the Empire preferred icon over efficiency. And yes I know I typed earlier that if they can build 2 death stars, they probably have enough money, but they may have been trying to save as much as possible to get the death star built as fast as possible (I'm not sure if the second the Empire was founded, that the emperor was planning for the death star, but this is what I would say is the most lore-logic reason I can think off.)
@@berryhops We recently learnt that inhibitor chips reduce the efficiency, proficiency or whatever the clones have. And as much as we know that order 66 is a permanent effect. I think that is mainly because a good portion of the clones would object or rather regret their decisions and could possibly desert the G.A.R. afterwards. We probably are about to see many such occasions with the new clones to be introduced in the next episode. Probably each time Rex removes an inhibitor chip those clones will never be able to serve the Empire again. Be it sorrow, be it regret, be it feeling empty whatever you name it. So phasing out clones is a much better idea whose loyalty lies either in Kamino or in Republic or in both but not in Palpatine of course without inhibitor chips. Even then with inhibitor chips, I am pretty sure that Kaminoans did not leave it to the chance and placed an emergency override to guarantee themselves by making clones only loyal to them in case anyone would try to make clones turn against their very own creators. One thing we know is that they love cash but do not trust Palpatine, not even a bit. Correct me if I am wrong but If I am not mistaken, 99% of the workforce for the deathstars came from Geonosians. They exterminated the entire population, probably worked to death. So little to no money, no witnesses. Geonosis population = 100 billion in case you want to know how quickly they can build Death Stars without any payment.
Also, other sites have pointed out that the galaxy was terrified of Droid rebellions. Droids in Star Wars are fully sentient and given programming restrictions to limit their scope, but these restrictions break down when there is a " contradiction" between their restrictions and the best way of achieving their orders. A war between droids was recognized as a case where droids would break their programming and go rogue. I can't remember the exact reasons for this in detail, but it has something to do with the conflicts between following orders, minimizing casualties, winning the war, and winning the war quickly. With droids on both sides, the tactics on both sides will change in such a way that the droids can break their programming and turn on their masters.
@@brianj.841 Yes, anti-droid bigotry is actually common in the Star Wars Galaxy with thousands of years of history behind it. There were numerous droid rebellions, rogue assassin droid factions, and cases where people were irritated over losing their jobs to droids; and of course there is also the irrational bigotry too. Organizations like the Pias Dias and the Empire also built up the sentiment to fuel their public support--and this is one of many reasons why the Empire rarely used battle droids. Anyway, droid manufacturers put many programming restrictions on their droids to prevent uprisings and rogue behavior, and it often failed. In some cases like the IG88 series and the HK series, the droids killed their makers and tried to take over the galaxy or rule from the shadows on numerous occasions. One Republic droid. ended up forming a criminal empire to fuel the Republic economy following the Mandolorian and Sith Wars, One of the IG88 models successfully hacked the second death star, but failed to take full control of the station--Instead it just messed with automated doors to annoy Palpatine.
Plus, after the Clone wars, the Empire fielding a droid army would be a hard sell politically after three years of the public being bombarded with propaganda about the brave GAR, battling the evil, soulless Droid Legions of the CIS
@@KuugaT2 stormtroopers aren't actually that bad george based them off the "Naz*'s" and you have the rebels i.e. the allies but you can't have a "ww2" film without the propaganda/dramatization and palpatine wanted a disorganised military so they couldn't possibly betray him. (Nerdgasm)
You just don’t get the same Darkside power boost from having huge armies of droids or clones that have no free will. You have to convince organic beings that it’s their choice to sign up as virtual slaves in an imperial war machine.
Actually, the old stuff should be kept operational in the backwater worlds of the outer rim, to keep the peace there. It is not worth letting the good quality junk waste itself unused or scrapped. Furthermore, this equipment would be well suited for operations in places like Lothal for example, where you would not worry about a Venator, but you would worry about deploying an ISD from a more valuable region.
The grand irony is that the venator would be far more capable of dealing with rebel cells than the ISD would ever be. Actual point defense, a sizeable fighter complement, and the ability to outrun the fighters chasing you along with better force projection through hyperdrive capable scout fighters.
I always say an ISD paired with Venator would be a very tough nut to crack. Add in escorts and you have a strong battle group ready to face any threat.
Gotta say... after playing through waaaay to many nights on Endor the sound of a Lambda shuttle got really close to my heart (only marginally behind dying Ewok).
The V-Wing utilized by the Republic to me was the very best fighter that the Republic could field. While it lacked life support, you had shields, guns with some decent firing arcs, missiles, highly maneuverable that a skilled pilot was more then a match for droid fighters and an astromech to be an extra pair of eyes for the pilot.
It was a crime for the LAAT gunship be discarded by the Empire, though I'm glad some of the gunships would be used by the Rebel Alliance (considering the previous Battlefront II game had the LAAT on both the Republic and Rebel Forces).
Not to diss his own skills and those of his creative team; however, when creating a fictional military its helpful to have some sort of expert consultation.
7:34 I don't think having a hyperdrive makes for a net improvement alone tbh. The Empire's fleet philosophy has ISD's and frigates tied to planetary defense. TIEs are meant to be carrier bound inherently, so every single ship having a hyperdrive is a waste of resources. I think to supplement this, squadrons of TIE defenders should be used as patrol craft, sort of like the New Republic has with it's X wing units. That way you could allocate fleets to more essential locations as well as have competent pilots in powerful craft readily available if another system falls under assault. Rather than having a fleet make time to mobilize. 7:55 I think the Empire having battle droids would not be terrible from a military standpoint, but from a societal standpoint. The whole illusion of the imperial military industrial complex is of unity. Citizens are meant to feel like they are apart of a huge cog that keeps the galaxy going, and having them in their armed forces would sell that, sort of how we worship our troops in the U.S. Having droids used in main military business would seem like the CIS of the CW, and as we know there are many who are stigmatized against droids as a result of that war, with a lot of people like Din Jarin having similar experiences with them during the height of their occupation. There are already droids utilized in their military to some degree though, like the KX series, and DT series.

Good point. THE DAY AFTER EMPIRE DAY - The Emperor sat behind his pristine desk and looked out beyond the restored glass of his luxury office at cityscape beyond. His Private Secretary Riyo Chuchi walked in with the Imperial Permanent Cabinet Secretary Grand Moff Tarkin. "Ah Tarkin, it's a good day for the Empire." "Oh indeed your Majesty. Your premiership has been a great success." "And I've been asking myself, What can I do to continue this run of success?" "Have you considered: masterly inactivity my Lord?" "No Tarkin. An Emperor must be firm!" "Indeed. How about masterly inactivity?" Tarkin opined. "You haven't told him the good idea have you Riyo?" said the Emperor. "No my Lord. I didn't want to spoil it," she replied. "Good. Tarkin, I have decided in one fell swoop to restructure our galactic defence policy and usher in a new era of prosperity for the galaxy. We will scrap the Death Star project and use the money to fund a galaxy wide system of Academies. Especially in the Outer Rim. We will raise an army of conscripted officers to command our clone forces and solve our unemployment, security and defence problems in one go. Well what do you think?" Tarkin was stunned. "Where did you get this idea your Majesty! So...so you intend to purchase Interdictors instead?" "Oh no, we've got plenty of Star Destroyers already and an entire army!" "But your Majesty, Star Destroyers are a ramshackle design! With the Death Star, we could obliterate entire systems - the whole Outer Rim for instance!" "I have no intention of obliterating entire systems in the Outer Rim Tarkin! I wanted to rule the galaxy, not destroy it." "But it's a deterrent against the old CIS worlds, the Hutts et cetera..." "Come now Tarkin, it's a bluff. And they probably know that I wouldn't use it." "Yes but even though they probably certainly know that you probably wouldn't, they don't certainly know that although you probably wouldn't, there is no probability that you certainly would!" The Emperor was facepalming in confusion. "You've lost me Tarkin." "My Emperor, it's so much simpler to push a button! If you walked into the Galactic weapon's showroom, you would buy the Death Star. It's round, elegant, as beautiful as the moons of Naboo. It is quite simply the best and surely your Galactic Empire should have the best! It is the Alderaanian suit, the Coreillian ale, the Naboo starship, Twilek female. It is the weapon that the Coruscant Opera House would sell you! What more can I say?" "And it would cost the Empire over 15 trillion credits to buy Tarkin!" "Well, you could say that about anything at the Coruscant Opera House!" Suddenly, the holo projector activated. "Your Majesty, Lord Vader is requesting to speak to you." "We will discuss this matter again later Tarkin. That will be all." Tarkin strolled outside. As Riyo exited the room, he motioned to her. "Riyo, what is the purpose of the Imperial Defence policy?" "Well, to defend the Empire surely Grand Moff." "No Riyo. It is to make the people believe the Galactic Empire is defended." "From the Separatist holdouts?" "No not the Separatists. The Separatists know it is not. Projection is everything Riyo. Take the Star Destroyer. When the enemy sees it, they do not think practically how to take it on having been stunned by its sheer size. The Death Star will take us to the next level." "But isn't the Emperor right? And besides it would create tens of millions of jobs. Spread out our forces to the Outer Rim." "No one wants to go to the Outer Rim Riyo! You can't expect officers to go to the parched Dunes of Tatooine. There's nothing to do in the Outer Rim! The officers wouldn't wear it." "But he's the Emperor!" "Indeed he is Riyo. He has his own shuttle, a luxurious palace on Coruscant, a place on Ryloth, another chateau on Naboo, endless publicity and a pension for life. No Jedi to challenge him. What more does he want?" "I think he wants to govern the galaxy." "Well stop him Riyo!" Tarkin went immediately to Admiral Yularen. "The Outer Rim? Galactic garrisons? You must stop him Tarkin! This has Vader written all over it. Common sense instead of doing what's easy. It's the thin end of the wedge. Army regiments all over the place? Next they'll be wanting Admirals on ships all over the place. Much simpler to just have one button." Yularen had just spent his last few years in the throng of the Clone Wars. He had been looking forward to banquets and the high life of the Core Worlds in his final years of service. Then perhaps retiring and serving on the Board of a galactic corporation where he and his family could enjoy the galactic tropics. "You know, I've been thinking. We ought to play the man, and not the ball." "What do you mean?" "Well, convince the Emperor that Lord Vader is plotting against him. After all, he only just defeated the Jedi coup." "But even with Vader's popularity in the army, surely only someone in an advanced state of paranoia would suspect Vader of plotting against him..." "Think about it. He goes around the galaxy. Puts down insurrections. A man of the people. Whilst the Emperor sits in an ivory tower here in the capital. If the Emperor thought he was readying a leadership challenge, trying to succeed him earlier than intended..." "Ah. Man overboard." Tarkin smiled. He pressed his communicator. "Get me the Chief Whip. Mas Amedda."

The first time i saw it, it was in 2003 star wars animated movie. Was the most brilliant thing ever. Moving at incredible speed, manouvering silently throught countless droids, dropping it's payload of arcs then goes to stop an entire army of droids from ever reaching the destroyed acclamator. The arcs by now struggling, no losing to Grevious gets the laat to come and cover while they extract the three jedi, putting two jedi on lifesupport and making it's way out of the area by detonating explosives it had dropped earlier. Untouched and with three jedi and countless destroyed droids it takes off.
2:00 it could actually go in space. We see it on rebels when Sabine and Ezra set off a cyber crystal and a star destroyer sends these transports to reinforce the ship. I think it is S4 E4 at the end of the episode.
Except not. It is first time I hear about Rebels having Venator (source please)? Rebels until Yavin used primarily CIS weapons. Also Empire didn't retired Venator, still using them during Endor. They only didn't make new ones, when most constructed Venators were rushed and destroyed or heavily damaged during the war. So those were scraped, with those in operational state still being used on lesser arenas. Same goes for ARC-170 what was still used, just in intended role as reconnaissance craft (by both sides).
@@TheRezro Depends on what lore you are following. Empire at War, actually had rebellion fleets able to obtain the Venator at some point, via pirate shipyards.
@GODSGENERAL @Andy B Guys, guys, guys. Listen. All they had to do to make the Juggernaut better than the ATAT was put snow chains on the wheels. Problem solved. God, could you imagine being stuck with that job? Standing outside for three hours, arguing with the rest of the engineer corps squad about how to get the damn chains on?
The TX-130 actually get's an upgraded version called TX-130T in the early Imperial Era. They later get upgraded to the 2-M Saber-class repulsor tank and their scout variant SC2-M. Still, they should have been used more.
Did the Republic and Jedi ever notice that throughout the war the Republic armoury and ships slowly turn into a Imperial/Sith aesthetic? With all the red lighting on those small LAAT Coruscant ships? You can really see the vibe when Anakin tried visiting Ahsoka but got denied by Fox.
the reason why they probably got rid of the battle droids was to not make the clone wars seem like a separatist win. It would have been pretty hard to get people to begin trusting battle droids when many people already had lived in fear of them for 4 years
the reason why palpatine didnt used droids was because he wanted to create jobs... if you put droids to do the work, you're not creating jobs for humans, but if you have a human soldier, everyone is like "oooh, i realy like the empire, it has a job for everyone!"
Should have kept the C70 charger and used it as a multi role ship. It had a decent hyper-drive as well and sub-light engines, plenty of lasers and two concussion missile launchers to fight off star-fighters. The "Salon pod" was designed to be easily removable and they could have manufactured different "pods" to fit different roles: proton torpedo launcher for use against capital ships (think PT boats), advanced sensor suite (AWACS), rapid troop insertion pod, or even a close air support craft for troops (C-130 gunship). Maybe even add a few hard points to add on either a turbo laser or ion canon to help beef up it's anti-capital ship role. Would have made a great ship to hunt down rebel capital ships in wolf packs, a capable interdictor against pirates, or a great long range recon ship. It was a great design that was retired too early. If the rebels had been smart they would have used them for the roles I just described.
As expensive and unwieldly as the ARC 170 is, it kinda fits within the Tarkin Doctrine. Its very sturdy, very powerful, can cover large amounts of space and sectors similar to the ISD and can overpower any starfighter it comes into contact with. Its definitely a ship the Empire should've kept
The empire didn’t use droids openly because they knew it would be very much frowned upon by the general public which endured a war with them losing many loved ones to the droid army.
The LAAT and TX130 definitely could have been brought into the Empire, just slap a new coat of paint and job done. Plus the the TX130 already has that "stormtrooper" look with its windows, and LAAT is just a best thing to ever come out of Star Wars. Its everything a "chopper" pilot would want, tranporting large squads and having ALOT of firepower to boot, and only a crew of 3 or 4 is a reasonable size.
I would assume the reason that the Empire, as well as the Republic, did not use battle droids, is due to the fact that it likely would have reminded the citizens of the galaxy far far away, of the terror spready by the Droid Army of the Separatists, which would not have helped their cause very much. Putting a human face to things is a great way to make people more receptive to things, which is why many companies try to avoid using robots/computers for customer service, for example.
Wow and literally first 🥇! Yet why didn't u say your name? Agree the M1911A1 45 ACP pistol part at 4:54-4:59. Wish for video why the Kalashnikov rifles are the most effective weapons in the Star Wars universe!
The TX-130 became the 2-M, try a different one. Also, a good number of Droids were kept, especially the Droidekas. I recommend going over a list of which Republic era stuff the Empire should pull a mostly cosmetic makeover while keeping its core functionality & such…
If the empire were to use battle droids the populace would only see the separatist droids and would revolt. Anti droid sentiment after the clone wars is very well documented. Even in A New Hope the cantina staff told R2 and 3PO that “we don’t serve your kind here.” Replacing the infantry sure was one of the toughest, biggest problems in the early years of the empire. Clones may have been better quality troops, but they were simply too expensive to field in such mass numbers to occupy all the needed territory. The empire at that point needed occupation, they weren’t fighting an all out war. I think the clone army only had 6 million troops. Here on earth that would be unstoppable but we’re dealing with a galaxy full of earth like planets. On the flip side, stormtroopers are just inferior and don’t stand a chance long term against an organized military like the Rebel Alliance, I know they take the form of cells but they eventually fully unified around the time of a new hope.
You don't have to put the Droids in very public positions. You can use them as staff in ships, as guards in bases or as ground troops outside of the core. Most of the fight against the Rebels was fought outside of the Galactic Centre, in the Outer Rim or Mid Rim. That's were you need to cover as much ground as possible. If you use Droids to suppress former CIS planets or to guard non-inhabitat or barely inhabited worlds nobody would know. This would leave the human soldiers free for the centers or the public.
i would love to see a video about a more effective yet still cheap enough battle droid that the cis could have used instead of the b1. does anyone agree?
B1 Droids were extremely effective. There are good reasons why the CIS continued using them primarily. B1 Droids were pretty much the most important droids available
yes i know they were effective however there might be a more competent droid at the same price point or a little more. like a mix between commando droid and b1 cause if you had a droid that kills better and is harder to destroy then you can afford to have slightly lower numbers since you wont lose as many as with the b1@@lukas_ls
@@danielmatthiesen1717 that doesn't exists. b1 are so bad because they're as cheap as possible. Even though there aren't any concrete numbers, we know quiet a bit about costs. A full B1 with it's blaster is much cheaper than even just the guns the GAR used. The GAR had ridiculously overpowered guns that were more like cannons than regular blasters. Even B2 droids went down with single hits. The only droid that was able to withstand that kind of firepower were Droidikas. The B1 were so cheap, that for the cost of a single living soldier you could have deployed 100-1000 B1 Droids (when you factor in logistics, it's probably even more). As a comparison: in the battle of Naboo (TPM) we saw about 1400 B1 Droids. The whole army was hardly more expensive than a squad of clones. And that's why B1 Droids are so brilliant: they're deployed more like suppressive machine gun fire. Most won't ever kill anything but they can easily suppress and overrun the enemy. No living soldier can hold that for extended periods of time. Given that you've got the space, they were a great tool
@@olafgurke4699 Yeah, you may have a point. I was just thinking about Rex’s comment about Gen 1 armoiur always holds out in the Star Wars Rebels Series.
@@kevinx7015 Oh? I may not remember that quote. How does it go? Because as far as I know, the fish heads had no idea of human anatomy and so the Gen 1 armour was very uncomfortable to wear, whereas the Gen 2 was greatly improved.
@@olafgurke4699 I believe it was “I’m good. Generation 1 amour always holds up.” Star Wars Rebels, Season 3, Episode 6 “The Last Battle”.. Rex was hit once by destroyer droid fire. The fish heads did after all had not only used Jango Fett’s genome and some of his skills in his training of early clones , Gen 1 armor also had Mandalorian inspiration.
I always thought that the reason for the Republic almost exclusively used clones instead of droids wasn’t just because a clone trooper was as good as say 100 droids. The point that The Republic, and especially the Core Worlds had an overall phobia of droids which became a prejudiced POV against droids, especially powerful droids. The Clone War wasn’t just tactics and specific battles, it was also about image and sense of security. With these “human” soldiers and Chancellor Palpatine leading and supporting the war effort with the use of this ready-made human military, it would be perceived sense of assurance that there ready-made human soldiers were not like those menacing inorganic droids from these wild Outer Rim Separtists world who seek havoc with the Galatic Core and promote the eventual Empire’s so-called more safe and secure society.
There's a few things about droids. For starters, they did actually continue using a handfull of droid models such as Droidekas, Dwarf Spider Droids, and a modified type of Commando droid. The problem of adapting the masses of droids into the new military was two parts of the same problem: optics. B1 battle droids were used as a symbol to symbolize Seperatism. And battle droids left many people traumatized, especially after Dirge's Lance and the attack on Corescant.
If I remember correctly, the actual inspiration for the LAAT was the Soviet Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter. Even down to the double bubble cockpit. Armed to the teeth, and carried troops too.
The good Old SPHA might have been pretty good brining up the rear behind the AT-AT. Seriously the big gun on the SPHA really could slap, and would perform well in situations that called for it. Not to mention the SPHA could also be fit with at least a half dozen different types of big-gun, further increasing its usefulness.
As childish as it sounds, it should have been mounted to the belly of it. It doesn't need much of an upwards angle since it's purely a line of sight weapon. That being said an AT-AT with a giant dick gun would be very much a "why would you do that?" moment.
I feel like the clone wars should have been longer than 3 years. That is far too short. In my head cannon it would make sense that every season in Clone Wars is a whole year
This reminds me of a quote from one of the old Star Wars RPG sourcebooks: "Senator, every being serving knows that the weapons he uses, the ships on which he serves, the droids and computers on which his life depends-every piece of equipment which he will expect to use - was designed as a result of a Senate compromise to keep each constituent commercial interest happy. Upon entering combat with such equipment a crewman's sole consolation is a grim satisfaction that our enemies probably stole their equipment from us."
I get that the DC-17m wasn’t really coat effective since it cost 4,500 credits per unit, but I just live those things and they’re so versatile. I mean can you imagine a squad a Death Troopers rolling up with DC-17m’s?
The E-11 and most Imperial blasters were honestly complete downgrades from Clone blasters. That's why the Rebels used them without complaint if they could get their hands on them.
After reading some of the comments I really like the spirit of this channel's viewers My main gripe is not that LAAT was phased out, but what was the replacement. If you remove the majority of LAAT weaponry and make a cargo-hauling variant you have a great vehicle for transport in areas with rebel activity - fast, reliable, simple to scramble up. Sure, it is overkill for places with little to no combat, but in these cases, any cargo ship will do. Except for Lambda class, like everyone stated here, this is the same as bringing a private jet to Vietnam instead of Huey. Personally, LAAT is one of my favorite sci-fi aircraft, reminds me of GDI Hammerhead.
2:42 "....In my opinion they should have kept it and upgraded it." This is basicly what the MAAT and Imperial Dropship Transport were from the game "The Force Unleashed".
In the 1998 PC game "X-Wing Alliance", several levels of the game center around a campaign by the Rebel Alliance to destroy an Imperial droid starfighter development program. In your mission briefings, your senior officers are terrified at the potential of an Imperial starfighter corps that has "no fatigue, minimal maintenance, and all completely loyal to the Empire", as if droid starfighters were some completely new concept. And then "The Phantom Menace" released in 1999 and massive droid militaries became a thing.
I'm genuinely surprised that the Venator didn't make the cut, seeing as power projection is incredibly important in policing a galaxy and the venator (or any comparatively sized carrier) is most effective in that role.
one ship you forget to mention that replace the LAAT, was the Tie Reaper. Designation TIE/rp Reaper Attack Laner. It was a drop ship that was less efficient than the LAAT. It was seen in Rogue One as it drops off Director Krennic's Death Troopers. They were better armored than the LAAT, but they lack firepower and were easy prey towards Rebel Fighters. They were mostly used to transport and ferry Imperial Special Forces like the Death Troopers to battlefields when they were needed.
Rom Mohc was a big advocate of using droids to supplement the Empires armies. He spearheaded the Dark Trooper program but was often encountering obstacles as many senior Imperial officers served in the GAR and simply still harbored a hatred for combat droids.
The major advantage of the LAAT is that it can go from fully closed to fully open very quickly (a matter of seconds really) while on final approach. It can get in, dump a load of troops, and get out of nearby ground-fire range again in, well let's call it a minute. Compare that to the Lambda class, which has to fold its wings up (takes time and reduces manoeuvrability), and actually _land_ before it can start deploying troops (more slowly than a LAAT), then reverse the process to take off again, for a total time of maybe five minutes, giving the enemy ample time to either hit you at your most vulnerable, or get away.
The Empire did actually have some successors to the LAAT, such as the MAAT and the Imperial Dropship Transport. The MAAT does have much on it but it was used by Kota and his militia. The Dropship Transport had a smaller profile to the LAAT, though this sacrificed some weaponry and troop space (though it still had the Mass-Driver missile launchers) The Empire should have used those models instead of making the Lambda and Police Gunship, which overall were not suited for combat scenarios.
I wanted to rule the galaxy, not destroy it. The Imperial Star Destroyer is a fine ship. And we have plenty to invade the entire galaxy several times over!" "But the Death Star is a deterrent against the old CIS worlds, the Hutts et cetera..." "Come now Tarkin, it's a bluff. What more can I say?" "And it would cost the Empire over 15 trillion Imperial credits to buy Tarkin!" "Well, you could say that about anything at the Coruscant Opera House!" "Besides, I need officers to lead our Clone Stormtroopers." "But ordinary people as officers? The Jedi might have been misguided, but they were elite officers. We can't have moisture farmers, and barbarians leading our men! And to have officers in the Outer Rim. Not strategically sound." "Those moisture farmers and barbarians are my subjects Tarkin. Besides, we need a strategic foothold everywhere. Look at this case report - trade ships attacked by smugglers. More Imperial ships needed. You can see how our policy works in the Inner Rim." "Just an isolated example my Lord." "Ah yes. And I have a whole range of isolated examples Grand Moff! The purpose of the Imperial Defence Fleet is to combat Outer Rim pirates. So clearly, their headquarters has to be located here in Coruscant lightyears away. The purpose of the Imperial Army Commandos is to respond to Insurrectionists on Tatooine. So clearly, the officers have to be based on Alderaan! The Imperial TIE squadrons and Imperial Border Patrol are there to protect Outer Rim trade routes, so clearly they have to be stationed on the tropical world of Scariff!" "Your Majesty, I am sure the Chief of Defence Staff has reasons for all of this." "Well Lord Vader has informed me of even more. Apparently, the Defence Council has put in an order of 50,000 Lambda class shuttles for troop deployment. Luxury shuttles for troop deployment?" "I believe that the officers believe that Imperial troops should arrive in style, my Lord." Suddenly, the holo projector activated. If the Emperor thought he was readying a leadership challenge, trying to succeed him earlier than intended. And we're talking about the Vader who was close to Padme Amidala. Close to the Senator from Chandrilla, Mothma, one of the Emperor's most vocal critics..." "Ah. Man overboard." Tarkin smiled. He pressed his communicator. "Get me the Chief Whip. Mas Amedda."
@Generation Tech I believe Empire had good replacement for the LAAT Gunship with the Sentinel-class landing craft and the Venator-class Star Destroyer should have been keep over the Victory-class Star Destroyer.
Agreed! The LAAT was a very capable assault battle taxi, all the Empire had to do is slap an Imperial sticker on it, keep in production and upgrade it where needed and the troops' transport needs are met perfectly. This also means no real need for those expensive and very slow AT-ATs which some would call an "enemy fire sponge."
Rebels:*sees lamda (I’m not sure how to spell it) class landing ship Also rebels: Jerry go get the machine gun Also the ARC Trooper in Battlefront 2 is godly
I have to wonder how Star Wars would've turned out if Episode 1 was the first one, instead of 4, in story and in design. The real reason many of these designs weren't used is simple: Episode 4 came before 1. Yes, there's lore reasons to back it up, but they had to be introduced retro-actively.
There actually was another type of shuttle that developed alongside the Lamba-class shuttle. It was the Delta class shuttle. It had a bigger cargo capacity for carrying vehicles and other animals into a combat zone, plus I do believe it had more than just one loading ramp. It also carried forward laser cannons and missile launchers as well. You can see a Delta taking off from Tatooine during the desert searching scene in the original movie Special Edition. As for the V-19 Torrent. Honestly the ship was being out-classed even by the middle of the war itself. The Z-95 and the V-Wing were all designed to replace the V-19 because of it's poor service record. The Empire didn't need the V-19 because they honestly had a better overall fighter in the V-Wing itself. It did everything that V-19 did, but better. So it might have been a bit more expensive cost per unit wise, but it's one of those time where the benefits more than outweigh the cost. Honestly as your video about good designs and what they got rid of video even pointed out, the Empire was fighting a different kind of conflict, and the Saber Tank for was good as it was, was just too much hardware for peacekeeping duties.
I love the LAAT, but I feel like it was one of those "good on paper, terrible in practice" kind of things. Everytime its on screen, there's about a 60% chance it's about to be blown up. Even in Battlefront 2 (2005) they were slow and bulky and had limited anti ship capabilities after their small supply of missiles were depleted. Despite the number of weapons they carried, they were too easy to shoot down.
The main downside of the TX130 tank was that it often ran over friendly soldiers on accident. At least that's what happened whenever I got my hands on one in the old SW Battlefront 2.
(You’re videos are epic, for the record) The Emperor (and Empire as a whole) didn’t care what individuals thought. There only concern was suppression and fear. Whence LAAT was replaced. And the Empire was penny pinching. Except when Palpatine wanted more, like a super weapon.
The empire would’ve won the galactic civil war if this didn’t invest a trillion credits into a giant super weapon and instead used that money for the tie defender project and dark troopers

The LAAT literally has mini death stars
Good point
@@GenerationTech agree
@@GenerationTech indeed, still needs better armor in my opinion, speed and weapons are fine
Only reason the Clone Wars on the Gamecube was any fun was using those lasers. So much fun blasting things with them.

Attention to detail makes or breaks everything.
V-wing is just lame version of TIE
@@goodmind4940 okay, I'm waiting for the punchline
I always had v-wings left at the end of the battle in Republic at War, never had any of Tarkin's or Vader's TIEs left at the end of any battle.
The reason the empire did not adopt droids was do to a large civilian population's resentment for them during the Clone Wars.
"We don't serve their kind here. Your droids! We don't want them here. They'll have to wait outside!"
Yeah and the laat had no hsperspace engine thingy
@@geiernder Which made it way less useful once the Venator was retired.
Since both death stars weren't that big compared to a planet/moon, I'm pretty sure they could've kept them, the only reason anything gets decommissioned is because
A) It resembles something/someone we(the Empire/Emperor) don't like
B) Doesn't fit the doctrine
C) Empire like big stuff not small stuff
Another thing, clone troopers are still very much so more deadly than stormtroopers, but the Empire preferred icon over efficiency.
In your words, the empire needed to keep its image as the droids were seen as evil it would hurt palpatine and his hold on the empire
That’s fine, use humanoid droids and throw on some fake faces.
@@papaofthejohns5882 Again, the problem is related to the tactics droids can use, not what they look like.
Using Han Solo's attitude as an indicator, I always assumed ALL droids had some prejudiced against them. Combat droids especially.
One Republic droid. ended up forming a criminal empire to fuel the Republic economy following the Mandolorian and Sith Wars,
One of the IG88 models successfully hacked the second death star, but failed to take full control of the station--Instead it just messed with automated doors to annoy Palpatine.

Plus, after the Clone wars, the Empire fielding a droid army would be a hard sell politically after three years of the public being bombarded with propaganda about the brave GAR, battling the evil, soulless Droid Legions of the CIS
Droids would have been a better force instead of havin stormtroopers where their armors get stolen by rebels to sneak in bases.
(Nerdgasm)
Also what you said lol maybe with helmets that bad they couldn't see anything 1ft above eye level thats why 1st gen clone armor is so good.
You just don’t get the same Darkside power boost from having huge armies of droids or clones that have no free will. You have to convince organic beings that it’s their choice to sign up as virtual slaves in an imperial war machine.
“excepted it’s a tank” 😂 had me rolling
@@PrinceOfDolAlmroth should be kept as front guard disposable defense
I always say an ISD paired with Venator would be a very tough nut to crack. Add in escorts and you have a strong battle group ready to face any threat.

The clone Z-95 was also pretty good it was essentially a mini ark 170 with a high fire rate and lower change of blowing up due to being too big
Yeh, that one should stay in use alongside V-Wing. Additional bonus would be that outraged creators would not sold it (X-Wing) to Rebellion.
The Z95 was used by the Rebels, though.
@@Gamerguy826 And from where they get it?
It was a crime for the LAAT gunship be discarded by the Empire, though I'm glad some of the gunships would be used by the Rebel Alliance (considering the previous Battlefront II game had the LAAT on both the Republic and Rebel Forces).
We all know the real reason, George Lucas hadn’t thought of these ideas yet
Not to diss his own skills and those of his creative team; however, when creating a fictional military its helpful to have some sort of expert consultation.
Tarkin with his tarkin Doctrine definitely met he was compensating for something

"Ah Tarkin, it's a good day for the Empire."
"Oh indeed your Majesty. Your premiership has been a great success."
"And I've been asking myself, What can I do to continue this run of success?"
"Have you considered: masterly inactivity my Lord?"
"No Tarkin. An Emperor must be firm!"
"Indeed.
Well what do you think?"
Tarkin was stunned. "Where did you get this idea your Majesty! So...so you intend to purchase Interdictors instead?"
"Oh no, we've got plenty of Star Destroyers already and an entire army!"
"But your Majesty, Star Destroyers are a ramshackle design! With the Death Star, we could obliterate entire systems - the whole Outer Rim for instance!"
"I have no intention of obliterating entire systems in the Outer Rim Tarkin! I wanted to rule the galaxy, not destroy it."
"But it's a deterrent against the old CIS worlds, the Hutts et cetera..."
"Come now Tarkin, it's a bluff. And they probably know that I wouldn't use it."
"Yes but even though they probably certainly know that you probably wouldn't, they don't certainly know that although you probably wouldn't, there is no probability that you certainly would!"
The Emperor was facepalming in confusion. "You've lost me Tarkin."
"My Emperor, it's so much simpler to push a button! What more can I say?"
"And it would cost the Empire over 15 trillion credits to buy Tarkin!"
"Well, you could say that about anything at the Coruscant Opera House!"
Suddenly, the holo projector activated. "Your Majesty, Lord Vader is requesting to speak to you."
"We will discuss this matter again later Tarkin. That will be all."
Tarkin strolled outside. As Riyo exited the room, he motioned to her.
"Riyo, what is the purpose of the Imperial Defence policy?"
"Well, to defend the Empire surely Grand Moff."
"No Riyo. It is to make the people believe the Galactic Empire is defended."
"From the Separatist holdouts?"
"No not the Separatists. The Separatists know it is not. Projection is everything Riyo. Take the Star Destroyer. When the enemy sees it, they do not think practically how to take it on having been stunned by its sheer size. The Death Star will take us to the next level."
"But isn't the Emperor right? And besides it would create tens of millions of jobs. Spread out our forces to the Outer Rim."
"No one wants to go to the Outer Rim Riyo! You can't expect officers to go to the parched Dunes of Tatooine. There's nothing to do in the Outer Rim! The officers wouldn't wear it."
"But he's the Emperor!"
"Indeed he is Riyo. He has his own shuttle, a luxurious palace on Coruscant, a place on Ryloth, another chateau on Naboo, endless publicity and a pension for life. No Jedi to challenge him. What more does he want?"
"I think he wants to govern the galaxy."
"Well stop him Riyo!"
Tarkin went immediately to Admiral Yularen.
We ought to play the man, and not the ball."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, convince the Emperor that Lord Vader is plotting against him. After all, he only just defeated the Jedi coup."
"But even with Vader's popularity in the army, surely only someone in an advanced state of paranoia would suspect Vader of plotting against him..."
"Think about it. He goes around the galaxy. Puts down insurrections. A man of the people. Whilst the Emperor sits in an ivory tower here in the capital. If the Emperor thought he was readying a leadership challenge, trying to succeed him earlier than intended..."
"Ah. Man overboard."
Tarkin smiled. He pressed his communicator. "Get me the Chief Whip. Mas Amedda."

The LAAT is the finest weapons platform ever conceived.

They only didn't make new ones, when most constructed Venators were rushed and destroyed or heavily damaged during the war.
Using combat droids in the Empire is a bad idea. Rebel infiltrators could reprogram them for maximum disruption and destruction.

They should have kept the LAAT/i for sure. I agree with you. The Empire didn't have that much of a diverse vehicle selection. You know?
the reason why they probably got rid of the battle droids was to not make the clone wars seem like a separatist win.
It just goes to show that just because it’s older doesn’t mean it’s obsolete.
Droids is easy to explain- the public absolutely didn't trust droids after clone wars

And the Enemy can hack Droids
You don't have to put the Droids in very public positions. You can use them as staff in ships, as guards in bases or as ground troops outside of the core. Most of the fight against the Rebels was fought outside of the Galactic Centre, in the Outer Rim or Mid Rim. That's were you need to cover as much ground as possible. If you use Droids to suppress former CIS planets or to guard non-inhabitat or barely inhabited worlds nobody would know. This would leave the human soldiers free for the centers or the public.
@@timmerk7363 yeah. or they could have mass-manufactured droid fighters - would've definitely helped the war effort

I was totally blown away when I first saw one.
i would love to see a video about a more effective yet still cheap enough battle droid that the cis could have used instead of the b1. does anyone agree?
IIRC Torrent fighter had no built-in hyperdrive, but was able to use rings

The LAAT always makes me think of a Vietnam era Huey gunship.
If I remember correctly, the actual inspiration for the LAAT was the Soviet Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter. Even down to the double bubble cockpit. Armed to the teeth, and carried troops too.
I got that impression from the u-wing myself.

"Senator,
every being serving knows that the weapons he uses, the ships on which he serves, the droids and computers on which his life depends-every piece of equipment which he will expect to use - was designed as a result of a Senate compromise to keep each constituent commercial interest happy.
I remember that fighter tank from a clone wars era video game
After reading some of the comments I really like the spirit of this channel's viewers
My main gripe is not that LAAT was phased out, but what was the replacement.
3:57; but the Empire in the Empire at War game had their own version of the TX130, the 2-M saber class repulsortank.
2:42 "....In my opinion they should have kept it and upgraded it."
This is basicly what the MAAT and Imperial Dropship Transport were from the game "The Force Unleashed".
The LAAT was sort of still in use in the form of an MAAT Gunship, but those are legends
Great vid GenTech! Agreed, the Empire should never have gotten rid of the LAATs.
I'm genuinely surprised that the Venator didn't make the cut, seeing as power projection is incredibly important in policing a galaxy and the venator (or any comparatively sized carrier) is most effective in that role.
Did you watch the video? He explains at the beginning why it wasn't mentioned lol.
one ship you forget to mention that replace the LAAT, was the Tie Reaper.
The LAAT is my favorite vehicle in Star Wars! So cool!
I havnt played any star wars games since OG bf2 but let me tell you, the LAAT was gangster
The Dropship Transport had a smaller profile to the LAAT, though this sacrificed some weaponry and troop space (though it still had the Mass-Driver missile launchers)
The Empire should have used those models instead of making the Lambda and Police Gunship, which overall were not suited for combat scenarios.
The Empire believes in rolling up to combat in a Bentley. Not a Land Rover.

I wanted to rule the galaxy, not destroy it. The Imperial Star Destroyer is a fine ship. And we have plenty to invade the entire galaxy several times over!"
"But the Death Star is a deterrent against the old CIS worlds, the Hutts et cetera..."
What more can I say?"
"And it would cost the Empire over 15 trillion Imperial credits to buy Tarkin!"
"Well, you could say that about anything at the Coruscant Opera House!"
"Besides, I need officers to lead our Clone Stormtroopers."
"But ordinary people as officers? The Jedi might have been misguided, but they were elite officers. We can't have moisture farmers, and barbarians leading our men! And to have officers in the Outer Rim. Not strategically sound."
"Those moisture farmers and barbarians are my subjects Tarkin. Besides, we need a strategic foothold everywhere. Look at this case report - trade ships attacked by smugglers. More Imperial ships needed. You can see how our policy works in the Inner Rim."
"Just an isolated example my Lord."
"Ah yes. The Imperial TIE squadrons and Imperial Border Patrol are there to protect Outer Rim trade routes, so clearly they have to be stationed on the tropical world of Scariff!"
"Your Majesty, I am sure the Chief of Defence Staff has reasons for all of this."
"Well Lord Vader has informed me of even more. Apparently, the Defence Council has put in an order of 50,000 Lambda class shuttles for troop deployment. Luxury shuttles for troop deployment?"
"I believe that the officers believe that Imperial troops should arrive in style, my Lord."
If the Emperor thought he was readying a leadership challenge, trying to succeed him earlier than intended. And we're talking about the Vader who was close to Padme Amidala. Close to the Senator from Chandrilla, Mothma, one of the Emperor's most vocal critics..."
"Ah. Man overboard."
Tarkin smiled. He pressed his communicator. "Get me the Chief Whip. Mas Amedda."
I loved using the tx-130 saber on mygeeto in battle front 2 (2005)
@Generation Tech I believe Empire had good replacement for the LAAT Gunship with the Sentinel-class landing craft and the Venator-class Star Destroyer should have been keep over the Victory-class Star Destroyer.
Agreed! The LAAT was a very capable assault battle taxi, all the Empire had to do is slap an Imperial sticker on it, keep in production and upgrade it where needed and the troops' transport needs are met perfectly. This also means no real need for those expensive and very slow AT-ATs which some would call an "enemy fire sponge."
That's actually what they did in legends.
Rebels:*sees lamda (I’m not sure how to spell it) class landing ship
Also rebels: Jerry go get the machine gun
Also the ARC Trooper in Battlefront 2 is godly
I have to wonder how Star Wars would've turned out if Episode 1 was the first one, instead of 4, in story and in design.
The real reason many of these designs weren't used is simple: Episode 4 came before 1. Yes, there's lore reasons to back it up, but they had to be introduced retro-actively.
The Death Stars were still needed because of the Yuuzhan Vong.
5:23 UNLESS you are in CoD...dual full auto makarovs shure are impressive for a sidearm.
Do a first order vs clones just like with the empire vs clones I love how you go into detail etc
With how big the galaxy is, there's a chance these we used be a commander who thought the replacement imperial toys were kinda shit
The light tank yoy talked about is from the Star Wars the Clone Wars GameCube video game. I love that tank!
The main downside of the TX130 tank was that it often ran over friendly soldiers on accident. At least that's what happened whenever I got my hands on one in the old SW Battlefront 2.
Take the AT-TE and replace the legs with some powerful repulser lift tech and you got something cool.
(You’re videos are epic, for the record)
The Emperor (and Empire as a whole) didn’t care what individuals thought.
There only concern was suppression and fear.
Whence LAAT was replaced.
And the Empire was penny pinching.
Except when Palpatine wanted more, like a super weapon.
Basically palps wanted to distance himself from the republic. He also didn't prioritize efficiency, he wanted to intimidate.
The empire would’ve won the galactic civil war if this didn’t invest a trillion credits into a giant super weapon and instead used that money for the tie defender project and dark troopers
"Indeed.
Well what do you think?"

TX 130 takes me back to the clone wars video game. RIP PANDEMIC
long range missions should use Lamda shuttles and for mass deployment they should use the LAAT
So much for progress.
