- This video was filmed on World Gorilla Day. It is a continuation from the previous episode. In this video, I do not talk about the seminar held at the zoo. It focuses on the great apes. At 10:00am Monta is roaming the enclosure. Rola went back to her room and came back with a branch. She is eating leaves from the branch. Santa is watching visitors. Gigio is taking a nap. At 10:30am, Rola is eating vegetables (celery or pok choy), while Monta is eating leaves from a branch. Monta then picks up the celery and moves to the center of the enclosure. His face stiffens and cough-grunts at someone passing by. He calms down at once. He starts eating celery. Rola has mucus coming out of her eyes. She also seems to have cracked hands. I hope the keeper will provide appropriate care for her hands and feet to be moisturized. At 10:55, Monta and Rola received hay cubes from their keeper. Monta seems to be satisfied. He lays down in the cave, relaxing. Rola also lays down near the keeper's area. She later moves to her off-exhibit room. Thank you for watching.

• In March 1993, he and Momoko were transferred to Chiba Zoological Park.
NB: The credibility of his birth info is uncertain. It's kind of a mystery that his parents are unknown yet his birthdate is indicated.....🤷🏻♀️
Monta and Momoko were transferred to Japan when Monta was around 3 years old via Spain. When he was little, Monta easily got lonely. In his childhood, Monta was often chased by an elderly gorilla, Momoko. They grew up together. He desperately needs a companion to live as his kind. He's been living alone most of his adult life. From 2009 until 2010, the zoo tried pairing up Monta and Rola several times. It didn't go well. Since then, he has been all alone. His abnormal behavior of plucking hair has been greatly reduced since the change of his keeper. I hope the zoo will not change the keeper in a short period of time.

Rearing: Hand-reared
• In Sept 1977, Rola was born and was being hand reared in a vet house. No trial to return her to Rirako. But her case gave a lesson for zoos and keepers in Japan that a gorilla should be raised by its own kind.
• In Nov 1980, she was transferred to Tobu Zoo
Basically she was living alone but her keeper used to play with her.
• In Oct 1993, she was transferred to Ueno Zoo, and lived with her mother, Rirako, and other gorillas.
• In Dec 2008, she and Kenta were transferred to Chiba Zoo and lived with him until he passed away in 2016.
Rola has difficulty in communicating with other gorillas. Especially when she is put with a silverback, she becomes ill except with an individual like Kenta who had no interest in gorillas. She loves sunbathing. She occasionally exhibits abnormal behaviors such as coprophagy, licking urine, regurgitation and reingestion. Rola always searches for earthworms as her companions. But they have a short life-span, plus they disappear in cold weather. I hope the zoo will consider the option of Rola living with other small animals. It may help solve her abnormal behaviors and loneliness. It seems her R/R has been greatly reduced since the change of her keeper.

Every time I watch a video of Monta/Rola my 💔. I hope that the new exhibit that’s going to be built in a few years has some sound proofing glass and is constructed with more natural materials and less concrete. Both of them are looking look well. A solidão dos dois é muito triste, Monta poderia estar com uma familia, filhos e no entanto está sozinho, Laura poderia ser inserida em alguma família que a aceitasse, mas não é so esse Zoo que é ruim, Genki fêmea da família Momotaro esta doente por causa de um problema odontológico a muito tempo e já está com consequências desse problema, está com o rosto inchado, principalmente perto do olho e abcessos, problemas gastrointestinais e dor, o Zoo naochama uma equipe especializada e nada é resolvido, o que parece é que se tem muita pena de gastar dinheiro, então fingem que não é nada demais, é uma vergonha, um atraso, decepção, horror 😢😢😢
