    I bought a case of 1978 Vietti Rocche when it was released, around 1982, and have sampled bottles at intervals ever since. I have enjoyed every bottle, but I think the wine is still improving! Ten down, two to go!

    Love this question and Vietti! I wouldn’t turn down Barolo at any age, but 10 + years are exceptionally lovely!

      10 year mark is a great point to understand the vintage too!

    Lucca describing the "conjunction of the moon and the sun with the light hitting the wine cellar" reminds me of the Map Room in Raiders of the Lost Ark. If Indiana Jones had simply opened the Ark when he had the corkscrew in his hand he would have avoided all those snakes. (forgive the 1980's pop culture reference). You guys are doing a great job, keep it up.

      It’s probably the most asked question about Nebbiolo wines!

    How do you tell the difference between ones that age and ones that can be drunk young?

    • @Oneonthehill
      @Oneonthehill  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Technical question! Wine is kept alive by acidity, tannin, alcohol and sugar (when present). The more of the above, the longer the aging potential.

    I try not to open for at least 10 years, always kick myself if opened earlier.

      10 years is a pretty good rule of thumb, but I’ve learned that aging time is extremely subjective. The Barolo and Barbaresco 2018 for example are really really good right now, they will age for sure, but there’s something very unique about their aromatics that will certainly not be there in 10 years

    HELP! I don't know anything about Italian wines and I am so confused! I am diving into Italian wines and I quickly figured out that Borolo is King. So is Borolo like left bank Bordeaux? Best after 20 years? That guy on the left knew his wine and I thought I heard him say 20-25..... so confusing.....SO, when should I drink a Borolo? 10, 14, 20 there is always opinions but I don't know. My parents were Napa winos and a once in a while 25 year old Rothschild for Xmas, but it was Caymus Special Selection all the way in Cali. Can someone help me answer this? I have a 1999 Borolo and I want to pop it for a friends bday coming up.

      Ciao Phil, thanks for watching our videos and supporting the channel first of all!
      It’s definitely a tough question because of the many factors at play like vintage, producer and specific vineyard. You’ll develop an understanding of “when” you like your Nebbiolo-based wines (some like it on the younger and some on the older side) by tasting several bottles. The more you wait, the more risk of the wine going bad obviously (storage is also super important) so don’t wait too long!
      1999 is a great vintage and absolutely ready to go, so pop that cork!
