      I searched for this last year, I spent 5 hours trying to find it, and it was nowhere! Dad had a tech over because of computer issues and for some reason he mentioned that we couldn't find this particular episode. the tech did a search and this came up!!!! Dad called me right away, and I looked it up. I'm so glad this is available now, my mom was in tears seeing him at that age (they have been together since age 14 and just celebrated 63 years of marriage two days ago). Thank you!!

    George Sisler may be underrated today because he was the preeminent player for the St. Louis Browns, a team that no longer exists under that name (their direct descendants are the Baltimore Orioles). When Ichiro Suzuki finally broke his single-season hit record in the 21st century, many fans were scratching their heads wondering who he was.

    • @loissimmons6558

      I personally believe he was the best first baseman of all time. He obviously could hit for high average. He had line drive power: lots of doubles and triples and a fair amount of home runs. And he was one of the best fielding first basemen ever with acrobatic skill in reaching bad throws. He was under 6 feet tall so he had to have great leaping skills. He also might have gotten more recognition if he hadn't missed an entire season with an illness that adversely affected his eyesight for the remainder of his career. That meant his average dropped to the low three hundreds. He hit over four hundred twice before the problem occurred.

    I dreamed of working for the state treasury office. I went to Buckeye Girls State and heard Mary Ellen speak. I wrote her a letter and while I was in the hospital having surgery, she called for me at home and then the hospital. She invited me to have lunch with her one day. She even said after college I could possibly have an internship there. I wasn’t able to do either. Lunch I couldn’t because of my father. Internship because by the time I could even attend college she became our United States Treasurer. It was an honor that she even called me.

    George Sisler's 1922 season - during which he batted .420, hit safely in a then-record 41 consecutive games, led the American League in hits (246), stolen bases (51), triples (18), and was probably the best fielding first baseman in the game - is considered by many historians to be among the best individual all-around single-season performances in baseball history.

    • @Lava1964

      It's kind of a shame that George Sisler isn't as well known or recognizable as he should be.

    • @Plmncvb
      @Plmncvb 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      About George Sisler: From 1915-1922 (his first 8 seasons) his carer BA was a whopping .361. He had been suffering some kind of problem with his eyes, of all things, and after his phenomenal 1922 season, when he batted a staggering .420 (no American Leaguer since has caught up to that one, and only one player, Hornsby of the National League, has topped it thereafter), he sat out the entire 1923 season ( in that 1922 season he led the league in Batting, Runs Scored, Hits, Triples, and Stolen Bases). When he returned in 1924 he was never again the same hitter as before but still managed to bat a healthy .320 in the period 1924-1930, lowering his lifetime BA to a still impressive .340. In that era when some players weren't consciously chasing goals like 3,000 hits, Sisler racked up 2,812---with bad eyes! Yeah, he was one of the greats for sure.

    Sometime you can figure out who the right person is, just by listening to how they say their name. In game 1, the first lady could barely get it out, and the second lady was a little too precise. I was pretty sure it was #3. She was more laid back and relaxed, when saying her name.
