Nice truck's! I'm a technician for GM and MY process is that if i can directly associate the problem to the aftermarket accessorie then i let my manager know. If GM kicks back the claim i personally get back flagged but so as long as I have a manager involved and they authorize the repair I'm covered from getting back flagged
I’m in Edmonton and have a 2019 AT4 with 73,000kms. At 70,000km i had a rough downshift from 4-3. Brought it in, they called me 3hrs later saying they felt the rough downshift but asked me if i heard the ticking noise. I did but thought it was just a noisy injector or something. Sure enough it was a bad lifter. I have a afe magnum intake and jlt catch can. No issues with warranty. 1 lifter and push rod was damaged. They replaced all lifters and the one push rod which fell under the remaining powertrain warranty i still have. I was originally told i would have to pay for the transmission relearn but if that didnt solve it, to bring it back and it would likely be mechanical and would be covered. They fixed it 100% and put the transmission under my powertrain so i owed nothing.
Absolutely not it does not void your warranty. I literally got the dealership to take one off of a truck that I Bought, but then give it back to them because it was broke
Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. OE warranty CAN NOT be voided unless it is proven that the aftermarket part is what caused the failure of another part. I worked as a dealer tech for several years and I've seen dealers try to claim aftermarket parts void warranty to entire vehicle.
I’ve heard taking the cover off of the port allows for more dirt and debris to enter the intake. Saying you drove on dusty roads had me a bit concerned. In the end though it just means you may be buying filters more often. Unless you get the washable one. Love your trucks sound! When I get the money I’m likely getting a Borla system myself. Got the S and B intake 3 days ago.
You're right about the dust and debris getting in, not sure about on the Sierra but I had the S&B intake on my 2017 Ram Hemi and I left the port out. There is a filter sock from S&B you can get that will greatly help with this though.
Watching video like this I got my 2022 Ram before I do my cutback exhaust I called them they say it’s ok it wil not void my warranty… Thanks for the videos
Just a question whether or not they think you'll call a lawyer, because it's supposed to be 100% illegal to void a warranty over properly installed modifications.
the only way you could void the warranty on lifters is to replace the cam with a different spec, rocker arms or wrong oil. Cat back exhaust will not void the warranty. You can order the truck with a aftermarket cat back.
Here are the facts, regardless of what any dealership tells you. Anytime you install aftermarket parts, it is against federal law for the vehicle manufacturer to void your warranty. The only thing that happens is that the dealer can choose to not cover that aftermarket part and if anything goes wrong with the vehicle, they must prove that the part you installed is the cause of the issue. Therefore, if for example you installed an aftermarket cold air intake and the mass airflow sensor goes out, the dealer can choose to not cover it and force you to pay for a replacement as long as they can prove that the intake caused the problem. However, if your radiator leaks or whatever, then they are required to cover for the cost of repairs as long as your warranty is still valid. So to answer the question does it void the warranty? The answer is only in regards to that specific part. This also means that if your lifters go bad, which unfortunately seems to be getting more and more common with the 6.2, that the dealer will be required to cover the costs because a cold air intake cannot possibly cause your lifters to fail. That issue is a manufacturing problem.
Ordered a 23 AT4 about a month ago. Specifically asked my dealer and they said, intake, exhaust, and leveling kit would NOT void the warranty but if I lifted the truck or did any ECU flash it would void the warranty.
Nissan seems to be okay with it, as long as it doesn't throw any codes in the computer, I've never had an issue, and they hook it up to the computer every year when they do the inspection.
@@Donslife yeah, Nissan once replaced a six, seven thousand dollars passenger seat airbags and all, because the stitching was coming undone on the back pocket.
There is something to mention that a lot of people forget. When it comes to small warranty repairs the dealership has discretion to fix it under warranty. But for major repairs like a engine or transmission usually the car manufacturer not the dealership will want to investigate. The manufacturer will definitely want to blame aftermarket parts on anything they can. Even if you believe the part did not cause the failure you will have to fight them in court. The protection laws you mentioned are not enforced by the police. They are enforced by lawyers.
I really appreciate your videos and thank you for all the research and everything you do. I have a question for you a little off subject. I have searched and searched…with no luck. I would assume you have the infotainment 3 UEI hd radio and back up camera in your at4. I have an SLE with the IOR radio and the back up camera screen is extremely bright at night. To the point it’s white washed out. Do you have any information about this issue? I don’t know if it affects the HD quality radios. Lots of people online looking for answers.
I briefly looked into this. Seems to be a shared issue at least in part with several models for both Chevy and GM. I luckily don’t experience this with my 8” HD screen. I have two adjustments. One via the ambient light sensor which will allow day, night and auto. Then the cabin illumination control by the fog light switch will dim or brighten the screen with the rest of the interior lights. My reverse camera is also a correct brightness level too even with my upgraded lighting from my tailgate LED strip and license plate bulbs. I will keep an eye out for you, but I would think it could be corrected via a software fix should GM choose to pursue it. I am not aware of a TSB for your issue either
I asked GM about a cold air intake installation on my 2019 because I'm getting them to do a warranty approved borla exhaust and they told me that the intake would void the warranty and they didn't offer any to go with my exhaust. Super disappointing
I'm suddenly curious about something after seeing this video. I have a 2019 AT4 w/the 6.2L and have almost 26K miles to date. Twice during this time, since driving it off the lot, I've had all of the "idiot lights" turn on for whatever reason, and there was a point in the video that reminded me of the same notification on your dash display. Does this mean that I may have a lifter issue as well? Is there any correlation? The last time it happened was just a couple days ago....drove into work (26 miles) with the idiot lights on from the start and when I went to back into my parking spot the parking brake was engaged. I'd not engaged it, it was just on and my vehicle wouldn't move. I disabled it and was able to park. When I left for my lunchbreak all of the idiot lights were off, but it's certainly concerning seeing your dash light up like mine did with those warning lights, so I'm just curious if I could potentially have a lifter problem (based upon the info given). If anyone would be so kind as to chime in I would appreciate it.
I am so happy that you mentioned that you ran the Cold Air Inductions intake before the S&B. Which do you prefer? Did one make a bigger difference than the other? Would you recommend one over the other if you were going to keep the exhaust stock? I really appreciate all of your videos on your AT4!
I like both the same for different reasons. The S&B is louder and I feel suits the theme of my AT4 more. The CAI is quieter but still gives similar gains to the S&B. It is also an easier install. Both are well complimented with an aftermarket exhaust. With a stock exhaust you’ll notice the S&B’s noise more bit it also has a larger and more exposed filter that will potentially dirty faster
@@Donslife that was a perfect explanation. I have a 2019 Sierra Denali with the 6.2l and it is the family everyday rig. I would like to make it known it has the 6.2l but I do not want it to command the attention that the AT4's or the Trail Boss LT's do. My decision is very clear now! Thank you very much!
Hey Don…. Got a quick about the GM cat back exhaust system that maybe you could help answer…. I am considering ordering/purchasing a new 2023 AT4 and looking at the car back exhaust. In your opinion, would you order the truck with the exhaust installed by the factory or would you do it after you’ve taken delivery of the truck?
The GM optioned one is quieter (Touring). I like mine (for this project) to be a little more aggressive. Truthfully, the Touring one will be a big improvement too
What are your thoughts/differences on the 2 intakes that you have had on your truck? S&B vs Cold Air Inductions. Which one do you prefer and why? Just picked up 22 AT4 refreshed body and looking to do some mods.
Depends what your after. Conservative and well-built or Aggressive and well-built. For the Escalade I prefer the cold air induction unit. For the rugged At4, the S&B.
I have both. Moved the Cold Air Inductions CAI into the Cadillac and put the S&B in the AT4. Both are excellent IMO. The S&B is a more involved install and has a more aggressive intake sound. The CAI takes half as much time to install and is more stealth. If you want rugged and beefy, go S&B. If you want subtle, go Cold Air Industries.
Both are excellent and both fit our new 2022 Esclade with the 6.2. Since the S&B is more aggressive and compliments my exhaust tone more, I put the Cold Air Industries one in the Escalade.
Hello I have the same truck. I replaced my air filter with the same and I got this check air filter code on my truck that won't go away. Any suggestions?
Did you disconnect the battery during the install? Also you have to turnoff the air filter monitor in your trucks vehicle settings right before or after the install, otherwise it will sense that something airflow related changed and register a check engine light. The dealer has to clear that for you.
@Donslife no I didn't turn off the air filter monitoring before or after the installation. . Guess I missed that part when reading the instructions. 🤦🏽♂️
I think it would come down to the aftermarket design compared to the OE design. The better the unit is sealed from moisture (and maybe higher up - like a snorkel) will lower the risks
An aftermarket intake will not make a difference with or without pipes. Most you'll get out of it is better throttle response, sound, and MAYBE 1HP gain. A modified motor with a tune would benefit from an intake.

Not really louder per se, but sport mode holds the gear longer before shifting, so loud longer would be more accurate
