- Hey guys! Danny & Niamh back again, with our reaction to Shogun episode seven, 'A Stick of Time'.
Things are getting serious! From start to finish this one took things up a notch! Toranaga's brother, Saeki 😡, more exploration of this dynamic between Buntaro & Mariko😬, and of course, Nagakado! 🤯
We have no idea where it's going to go from here but we can't wait to find out!

11:42 This little scene of Toranaga playing with a coin on a Torii gate was absolute improv. One of the costume guys told the story about how he used to play doing that as a kid so Hiroyuki Sanada did it
Being a "kaishakunin" (selected to be second) was usually considered bad, which is why it was generally done by a friend who would volunteer for the job out of their care for you in particular (to make sure it was done properly). Basically your bestest buddy was the only one who would willingly risk their own honour to save yours. To put this way as I read somewhere: "Doing it correctly doesn't give you any glory, but failing is a mark of shame". Usually when someone failed their duty as kaishakunin, it was followed by a seppuku too. So its pretty fcked up that Toranaga was second at such at young age.
I absolutely love how since everyone was on "lockdown" they we're all bored lmao Yabushige talking to the Anjin and trying to teach him how to swordfight. Everyone bored af looking for something to do haha

To the point of why would he admit his traitorousness, the only way to preserve honor when you do something shady is to come out and totally own it. I kind of wish more people would do that. When someone does something shitty to get ahead and they just admit it and say deal with it or bust me for it. As an American who is dealing with an election cycle with two parties that pretty much play the same games, despite whatever they proclaim to espouse, I would be a lot more comfortable if people would just own their bullshit.
Season 2 will comtinue the story. The show ends at the end of the book, but its loosly based on real Japanese History. So they can use the historical period to devleope the story. No word on season 3 but Id guess it'll be a flashback of the Taiko taking over.
Season 3 will be Toranaga's son shogunate. Season 2 will probably end with the Siege of Osaka.
Yay baby! Congrats. Loving the reactions. If neither of you have seen it, I'd suggest reacting to The Boys. Would be very amusing to watch some of Niamh's faces to that. Great show too.
Niamh has seen it but I (Danny) haven't. Maybe one for the future for me then!

I think y'all are good reactors but I wish you would react to a lot more movies. I haven't really watched a lot of y'all's Channel since masters of the air because I really don't watch too many television series. But I always love the movie reactions
We took a little break from movies after the birth of Danny's child because they require a lot more editing work. But we are happy to be able to say we have recorded a few movie reactions recently and are currently working on bringing them to TH-cam.
So hopefully movies will be back very soon!
Any future seasons should be exciting since this season ends with the conclusion of the book. That means Hollywood writers will take over from here. I'm sure everything will go smoothly because modern Hollywood doesn't ever screw up great stories with their PC nonsense. 😑
I dont really blame Nagakado tbh. He lived under the shadow of his father. I tried to compared it like being the son of the best player of some sport, you're gonna live your whole life trying to prove the world that you are at least on the same leven as your father.
By the looks of your view counts it might be much more lucrative to do big Hollywood movie reviews. I'm just saying. Its none of my business
