Join me today in the garden as I harvest the last of our cucumbers & then we'll head into the kitchen where I'm going to share with you my simple recipe for dehydrated vinegar salt cucumber chips! They are delicious and such a healthy snack. A great alternative to potato chips! Thanks for joining me, stay BLESSED! CORRECTION I accidently said oxygen absorbent packets pull out the excess “moisture” but I meant to say, it draws out the “oxygen!”
Recipe:
10-15 medium sized cucumbers
1 cup apple cider vinegar
2 TBS salt
1/4 cup olive oil
Simply wash & slice your cucumbers (thin). Set them aside while you make your brine by whisking together the vinegar, salt & olive oil. Dunk your cucumbers in the brine, give them a good shake & then line your dehydrator trays making sure that the cucumbers don't touch or over-lap.
Dehydrate your cucumbers for 12-24 hrs at 135 degrees! You can dehydrate them to the consistency that you like. Me personally, I like to dehydrate mine for a full 24 hrs because this makes them nice and crunchy just like a potato chip!

Never ever had the thought of dehydrated food. Off to buy a dehydrator. Love the apron. Made my hubby smile, as I am the only person he knows who wears an apron whilst cleaning and have one for cooking. Goes back to my mother and aunties. ❤🙏👍🥰
Hi Anita! Aw I love that. I love my aprons. Keeps my clothes clean…feels like my homemaking uniform haha! Everyone knows when I put the apron on, it’s kitchen time lol!
I use an apron too! :)
I can't stop getting salt & vinegar lays chips & thought of a resolution & found your video!! I'm excited to try this!!
It's so good!😊
This tastes AMAZING! 🎉 Thanks so much Tina for sharing!!❤
Mine are in the dehydrator now! Thanks Tina! 🥰 The cucumbers alone with the brine taste amazing. I can't wait to eat the chips!
This was seriously one of my favorite snacks to dehydrate! Such a yummy treat & way better than potato chips! 😉
Great idea. I think I'll use a mandolin and I'll use your basic recipe to experiment with types and amounts of salt, vinegar and oil as well as time in the dehydrator. Thanks for posting.
I’m going to be growing a lot of cucumbers this season, so besides making my favorite cucumber salad, I’m definitely making cucumber chips too! 😋
Love love that Apron just perfect, wish I would have one.
Love the Apron! Great video! Thank you! 🥰🤍
Thank you Alena! ♥️
I’m going to try and make these for my son. Thanks for sharing .
Love it
I'll have to try this, thanks!
cant wait to try them
I absolutely loved your video and idea but I cant find the amount of your ingredients. For some reason my phone isnt showing me. Would you please tell me how much you use. Im super new to dehydrating and super excited about cucumber chips.
Love the apron! So sweet
Thank you! I was just messin’ around one day. I want to get some merch for the channel! I think an apron is fitting for the homestead niche and I’m always in the kitchen! 😊
A lovely video....thank you.
You’re most welcome! Thanks for watching! 😊
Dehydrated cukes, wow they look so yummy N crunchy... awesome!!!
Thanks for the tips, recipe....
My pleasure 😊 Fantastic way to preserve when you're all pickled out haha!
Great idea! I’m on a weight loss plan and this is ideal for me. Thx for sharing. And glad to see I’m not the only one with bloopers lol too funny
Thank you! Oh yes…I could do entire videos just on bloopers alone! Haha! 😂
Awesome cucumber harvest great idea to use them as chips. I like the apron it's cute and has a good message scrolled on it.
Thank you! ♥️
Two batches of cucumbers are in the dehydrators now. This is by far the best taking recipe I’ve tried. Shared some with my neighbor, now she wants the recipe too… and she brought over more cucumbers 🥒 to make the chips with! 🤣 Love the 9 tray dehumidifier too!!! I was able to get so much more started than with the one I borrowed from Mom. Thank you!!!
First time watching your channel. I have my cucumbers 🥒 in my mom’s borrowed dehydrator now and the dehydrator you show ordered! I’m so excited for this great way to use the bountiful cucumbers we have this year! A person can only eat so much cucumber/tomato salad and freeze so much cucumber purée!
Awesome😀
Totally delicious!!! :)
Your bloopers ROCK GF 😂😂 Lil P is right on yo tail 🤣
Right?! He’s always bustin’ me out, he’s worse than Joe! 😂
Awesome I love your apron and the Bible verse
Thanks 🌸
Love that cute apron! 😍
Thank you!!! I was super happy with it! 😉
Thank you!!! I was super happy with it! 😉
Love the apron
Thanks Janice! ♥️♥️
God bless you hon.❤
Thanks Eve! ♥️
I love your apron. A nice reminder in our crazy world we live in. 💚💙
Hi Tricia! Thank you. I’m very old fashioned in a lot of ways I guess. 🤣
@@HomeFreeAlaska I watched your video and immediately cut up my cucumbers. I cant get them dry enough. I have a question that I cant find an answer to. Can I use my vacuum sealer to store my dehydrated veggies and fruits? I am trying to keep my food in light weight packages and not in glass that will break. I do have oxygen absorbers but didn't know if the can be sealed. So much to learn.
@@triciawardlaw2079 absolutely! Especially once they’re dehydrated, you can package them in vacuum sealed baggies! 😊
@@HomeFreeAlaska Thank you for your help :)
1 more question, can I purchase an Apron? I love it. 💚
@@triciawardlaw2079 yes!!! You can get to our shop with this link or go to my “store” tab on our TH-cam channel! ♥️♥️♥️ Thank you for supporting our channel! 🥰
Looks like you could replace the cukes with zucchini or even, GASP, thinly sliced and blanced potatoes. Whatever you use, I agree they won't last long.
I have the Cosori dehydrator. Best ever! Have another one in my cart as we speak. Get 2 people. Remember: 1 is none, 2 is 1!!!
Ahhhhhh wish I knew this before my cucumber plants got destroyed by bugs! I have pickles for dayyyyyyyys though 😆
Me too! We don’t need ANY more pickles ‘round these parts! 💯😂
I just made some cucumber chips
yummy, i can almost taste them and you truly are beautiful
Thank you 😋
I love dehydrated foods I need to check out that dehydrator. Mine doesn’t do a very good job and is not consistent
Yes check it out. I love the Excalibur. Like I said I’ve had it for like 5 yrs & use the heck out of it lol! Works great. 😊
Just came up from my garden with a crap load of cucumbers & decided to search up -can I dehydrate cucumbers ??-(I didn’t think I could because of the high water content.)- so thank you very much for posting this !!!
PS -why is it called Home Free Alaska if you’re sweating in Virginia??
This is an older video. 😂 we have since moved to Alaska. Thanks for watching. 😊
I made these last night. Started my Excalibur dehydrator at 9:30 pm and turned off today at 1:30 pm in afternoon. 16 hours. They seemed crispy and crunchy but when I picked them up, they were greasy on the underside. Anyone eating them would get very greasy hands. I just put them on parchment lined cookie sheets and in over at 175. I will check in and hour and maybe give them a stir before then. I did not use olive oil, but ‘Chosen’ brand, organic avacado, coconut and safflower oil. Did not think that would make a difference. Any ideas? I did learn that I should have used a larger cuke for more uniform pieces. Some of mine are pretty small after shrinking. I did enjoy your video. I also made your refrigerator dill pickles and love them. Thank you.
Hey what a great idea! Thank you so much! I nearly scorched dinner watching this I was so absorbed. lol
Haha uh oh! Don’t burn the dinner! 😂Thanks for watching Karen! ♥️
I’m making vinegar chips today
I love love love the apron can i have one pls
Thank you Susan!!! I’m going to try to have it available soon! ♥️😊
The salt was wayyyyy too much & you have to let the cucumbers get super big on the vine for huge slices. A regular cucumber slice dehydrates to the size of a quarter or less which gives you teensy chips. I’m tweaking the recipe, tasting the brine on a slice before dehydrating & also slicing the cucumber in half & then lengthwise to make the chips a more normal size. The brine recipe (with much less salt) is surprisingly delicious. I’m going to try this on potatoes too!
About how long can you store these in the pantry? Air tight (obviously lol), but what would be the best storage method and about how long? THANKS FOR THESE VIDEOS BY THE WAY!
I always put some in a mason jar for quit eats & the rest I vacuum seal. Prob be good for a yr or so.😊
Love the apron how can I order one?
Hi Sandra! You can check out our merch shop here!❤️❤️

Lovin the apron!Oh and lovin your nails 💅🏻 too lol 😉
Thank you! Homesteadin’ in style! 🥴😂
Which size oxygen absorber would you use for a 1/2 gallon jar of these cucumber chips? Would it be same for dehydrated apple slices? I have same dehydrator. I have quite a few cukes to use up and i have been sharing with friends and neighbors. Thank you
How long are they good for in the jar?
First visit to your stream .. and thank you for being Yah (God) fearing,. LORD in the OT is a substituted term ... not a translation or a transliteration. I will subscribe because of such too..
I was curious, if you have ever frozen any cucumbers, and then in thawing perhaps in water in the refrigerator, or on the counter afterward tried to complete the same cucumber chips?
I’ve never frozen cucumbers. I would worry about them getting mushy in the center when they thaw. But I’m not sure.☺️
Where’s the link for your apron ? I’d love to order some for my girls , thanks
Hello!! Sooooo I actually JUST created my merch store for my TH-cam channel (that was painful haha)…I got notification that it takes TH-cam a few days to approve my products/design and then they will be available on my channel under the “store” tab! I’ll try to remember to come back to you & let you know once it’s up! Very exciting! ♥️
I have a question about using oil in the brine recipe; wouldn't that put a lipid layer on the cukes that would slow down the dehydration process? Or does it serve some other purpose?
Hi there! It doesn’t slow down the process at all. 😊 I always dab them a bit with a paper towel if I get too much oil on there. But you can make this recipe with just the salt & vinegar if you don’t want to use the olive oil. It’ll work out just fine with or without the oil. I just like the texture the oil gives to the chips.
@@HomeFreeAlaska Thanks for your reply. That is interesting. I'll try it!
@@HomeFreeAlaska where can I find recipe for Dehydrated cucumber salt and pepper chips. Thank you Tina
I love your videos...
@@deem.2995 hi! This cucumber chip recipe/video is the only one I have. We’re you able to watch it?😊
@@HomeFreeAlaska i will watch it thank you Tina for reposting the video. Love your videos and your openess! 🙌
What the measurements for brine. Thank You!
Hi Mariah! The recipe is in the description of the video too, if that's helpful to you! But the brine is 1 cup apple cider vinegar to 2 TBS salt & about 1/4 cup of olive oil.

I like doing mine in my dehydrator! 😊
I did not catch the amounts of vinegar, olive oil and salt. I'll go at it blind. Fixing to load 2 dehydrators. Thanks for the video.
Hello! I posted out the recipe in the video description. But I’ll paste it for you here too!☺️
1 cup ACV
2 TBS salt
1/4 olive oil
@@HomeFreeAlaska Thank you! I already tried it guessing at the amounts. Came out Great. Thanks for the response. BTW, we have close friends that live in Soldotna, Ak.
Note: I think you got a little side tracked and forgot the amounts but that's fine I just found it in your comments to this person. Thank you very much for the recipe - it sounds great
My gosh you look like Christina Applegate. I’m sure you hear that all the time.
I actually hear that all the time!!🤣 Thank you for that compliment. 🤍
I remember visiting my Aunt Shirley as a child, and in her kitchen there was a small wooden plaque above the pantry door which read something along the lines of ....This aint Burger King where you can "have it your way", this is My Kitchen, and in My Kitchen, you get it My way or you don't get the son of a bitch at all.... I never complained lol, and she would fix me the best grilled cheese sandwiches in the whole world ❤🤣😁 Man what I wouldn't give to go back in time to the early 90s and be 6 years old sgain..hahaha
Sounds like something my mom
Would say to us kids!😂

Love these ideas! Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed comment for us! ♥️
How many cars would they be? Surely close to zero!!!
I would imagine! There just cucumbers & oil. No carbs in vinegar.😊
Why do mine taste like zucchini.
I am not a picky eater but these tastes like grass with salt and oil on them! Will not do it again. Also tried drying plain cucumbers, very grassy tasting! Disappointing!🙁
Grassy?! What kind of cucumbers were you using?! Mine have never tasted like “grass,” they’re delicious. To each their own. Just because you didn’t like them, doesn’t mean they’re gross. They’re just gross to you. Thanks for the lovely comment though!😉
@@HomeFreeAlaska I didn’t say they were gross, just didn’t taste like cucumbers! I love cucumbers in all shapes and preparation!!
You said you just use "regular vinegar...regular white vinegar, " then you start mixing salt and Apple Cider vinegar. ? And why no measurements? SMH
Like I said at minute 6:00 of the video, you can use regular vinegar or apple cider vinegar. Doesn’t matter which one I used because you can use either, that’s why I made sure to point that out. 😉 And the measurements and recipe is in the video description like I said in the video! You’re welcome. SMH!👌🏻
