Vlogging in public is hard for everyone. It's a mind game really. While I was stuck at the airport during business travel with no real story to tell for my Vlog, I decided I would share the really weird things I do that allow me to vlog in public with ease. To Vlog in a public place takes courage and it also takes you defeating the doubts and worries generated from your mind.

This is one of my issues. You never know how people are about being in your recording and go out of my way to get shots when people move out. I have an issue, too, about how to approach people who work at places like museums, re-enactments, etc. about maybe asking them a few questions on camera. Personally, having Jen and the kids makes it a bit easier. “Just a dad capturing memories!” Thanks for these tips!
Super valid point here. It sure can be weird to go up to people huh?! Kids totally help haha. But hey just ask and tell them what you’re doing and why, it’s always worked for me. What’s the worse that can happen, they say no 😉

This is awesome wish i would of seen it sooner , I love the camera its just I Need SOOOOOOO much practice on how to Vlog, also I wonder alot yes this is a question, when your out in public are you aloud to record people like walking bye or if your in the store like not going up to them just if they happen to be there? and I hope im asking this right cause thats the part that makes me nervous
Mom Raven!!! If you love the camera it loves you right back. To your question, the "technical" answer would be to get consent forms and have them signed yata yata, but that is for commercial work. If you're not making money off of what you're shooting, you can get away with just shooting B roll and such. The biggest thing to keep in mind is not to invade their privacy in anyway.The worse case is someone addresses they do not want to be displayed on camera and you cut them out. That's the really short answer. Hope that helps!

I've been trying to get used to vlogging in public for about 3 weeks now. The jumping into the pool analogy is so true. Also have been thinking a lot about the 'talking to the phone' technique. Yeah, I think in the future vlogging is probably going to be as normal as talking to the phone. btw, I don't think people vlogging in public makes anyone look stupid, if anything I find it quite cool and 'heroic', it's just terrifying when you're the one doing it. Really awesome video ! It's so relatable

Great video and I loved your personality. Thanks for giving me some balls to start my vlogging in Public. I feel self-conscious enough with the phone haha But you're so right. I caught people recording me once and pointing, it's terrible. But even myself I still stare when I see people vlogging (in my case, so I learn). I try to be discreet so the vlogger doesn't get shy, but it is like looking to the sun, you know you shouldn't look, but it is just so mesmerizing. Amazing tips!!!
