Lot of people talking about naiveness, but the reality is Chinese people don't care about North Koreans because China is big enough, most people in the US don't know who the Mexican president is and really don't care about the deaths in the Mexican Drug war even though its a low-intensity asymmetric war and just want to have their holidays in Cancun, Mexico without those pesky Mexicans getting in the way.
Naiveness is relative, most people just want to have a life.

I think a lot of comments show a great degree of immaturity. A lot of people already admitted that there was a very little reporting of North Korea. Chinese show very little interest in the Kermit kingdom as well. When talking about a country, two things must be considered. First: how truthful the media is regarding the said country. Second: are people interested enough to research the source materials. One interviewee said it very well; politics and people are two separate issues. The Chinese government has interests in North Korea, however; Chinese people don't.

China is good with North Korea, but many Chinese don't like. So what? It's not decided by your own preferences. North Korea is beneficial for China either politically or geographically, so long as it can stabilize the situation in Northeast Asia.
In South Korea even Japan there still many people who don't want to see American soldiers. They are also so-called democratic countries. Can they decide that they will not interact with the US?
Your view is not at all true.
      那么请告诉我,有哪个国家对朝鲜的新闻报道的很多?有哪个国家事先知道金正恩访中?

Well my hometown in China is a boarder line to North Korea, there are quite some North Korean people work there, I met and known some of them. They are basically normal folks, no ambitions and just trying to live on. Personally, the only point they pissed me off is some of them work in place like restaurant, and they cannot understand or speak Chinese (but they are usually new comer). Although, people in my hometown don't like North Korea as a political time bomb sit next to our door, they are one of the factor that influence the development of the city, and the North Korean are tricky as fk when we are trying to do business with them.
Also, if you want to do interview like this you may want to interview some Northern (especially North Eastern) Chinese, the answer you get will be more extreme/dramatic. Southerner are bit to polite when talk about this kind of issue and they do have some sense of political correctness in comparison, Northerner in this case just don't really give a sht.

Zelon Wong if you read my comments above then there is your answer. And it’s important to talk about all global issues including my piece of shit government the United States. If we ignore if we are all fucked and bound to die or peril. I hate it when people can’t pick up their hand and google search or baidu search simple things in before making comments. North Korea is very important, but their PEOPLE are more important than China, NK, or the United States governments and opinions.
You can never talk too much on a global issue. For instance the water crisis that half of the world suffers from. The very ignorance we recover from NOT talking is what is causing PEOPLE (not governments) to die, be abused and suffer. I say we all get our heads out of our butts and care about what really goes on in a country and not just their political stance or the relations between the countries.

Overall, impressed by the quality of interviews and diversity of opinions, despite most interviewees having limited knowledge about North Korea due to the limited media coverage in China. This kind of interview is a great step in the right direction to cultivate more awareness for foreigners understanding Chinese perspectives, along with interviewees reflecting deeper on the nature of their relationship with both Koreas. Appreciated the insightful statement on it being possible for Chinese and Japanese to be friends between people despite the nations and politicians having differing views.

@Pempeo Mike what he was trying to say was not speaking about it doesnt translate straight to you not knowing about it. The interviews did NOT ask about what they thought about how they felt north Korean people were treated in NK, but what they thought about the relevant political events about the recent meeting. Therefore, you get answers related to the topic. News isn't really censored on NK, but its up for you to believe. Nobody is ignorant to anything, but it depends on the level of interest you take, the information is there, you either care about it enough to learn about it or dont at all. Overall a good interview, and it answered the questions the interviewers added, without straying away from it.

    • @OlsenOfficial
      @OlsenOfficial ปีที่แล้ว

@@campusrec4098 But he is assuming that the interviewees knew more than they said they did? How does he know? Were those people really interested in north korea to the point of learning and listening to everything, every news that comes from that country? Is this guy living in China? to know what kind of information they get on daily basis about north korea? That is kind of stupid to assume that someone knows more than they said they do, when they clearly said they don't care. That is a f..up assumption to make.
I live in south america. There were a lot of stuff happening in Argentina. One of closest countries to mine. There were also stuff happening in Venezuela and Bolivia. But do I really know everything that is happening there or I only know things that were told by the media when they thought they should share the information? Did I search for more information or other sources? I didn't and I honestly don't care much about their problems because my country of 200 million+ people has a lot of problems of our own to be concerned about.
And we live in a democracy, there is no censor to informations, the internet is an open book. I just didn't take the time to look into it, I will speak about the things I paid attention when I felt like.

They come up with all sorts of slang and whatnot to get around specific censored stuff. However, I feel like Americans, for instance, don’t realize their media is heavily influenced by American interests / the government as well because they think they have free speech / press. To some extent, they do, but that doesn’t mean the USA doesn’t put out a ton of propaganda. For instance, every major news network Americans trust these days lied about Iraq having WMDs and justified the invasion and killing of over one million people- NY Times, BBC, CNN, the list goes on. This wasn’t even that long ago- it was in the 2000s. And Operation Earnest Voice is a propaganda effort by the CIA- anyone can search it up and find files on it.

that and also the "free flow of information" in the west, especially america, just means the oversaturation of useless info like celebrity digest, abstract memes, and veiled consumer advertisement (like most media digest's creation being just a way to sell people stuff, ie MCU, any popular shows really).
China's censorship mostly has to do with saving face in terms of the party and societal woes. They don't broadcast murder and crime on 24/7 news like we do here bc they know the damage that does to people's trust in humanity and the xenophobic/racist biases it creates in people. Though for a long time in the wild western days of proto-capitalism in the mid 90's-2010s, they certainly did their fair share of covering up scandals, abuse of power, and privatized public corruption. Say what you will about Xi Jin Ping's purges being about his personal enemies, bc even so, his campaigns rooted out so many systemic problems and players and brought them to justice.

Ultimately I think it’s only a breakdown of communication compound by cultural differences that creates the tension between the US and the DPRK. Both sides are unwilling to try to understand the others culture. So in my mind both suffer. Any Asian culture is so different from every other culture in the world that it makes true understanding and communication difficult. I have learned this from my Asian wife of 10 years. As an American it’s still confusing sometimes to understand not what she thinks, but why she thinks it. I’m always trying to learn more. Some comments are actually very sensible and Chinese clearly do not like North Korea having nuclear weapons, see it as a very undeveloped country, and have much more respect for South Korea but unfortunately do not seem to realise how China’s involvement in NK in the 1950’s directly contributed to the state of NK today.

It was US's involvement that forced China to join force with NK.

China issued several warnings before the U.S. crossed the 38th parallel, they warned the U.S. how they would rescue North Korea if they still didn't retreat back south of the 38th parallel, but the U.S. didn't care about China's warnings, MacArthur thought the Chinese were still in a primitive society and had no idea how to fight a war, the result was that China went into Korea and fought a 3 year war with the Americans, then the Americans didn't want to fight and offered an armistice.

The lady at 8:46 is the epitome of sarcastic humour, wrapped in a veil of Chinese politeness. Fantastic way to describe Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump. That should be the closing statement if they ever make a documentary about them
