Sorry for the re-upload. We had a few key mistranslations pointed out to us, which have been fixed. As a very small team trying to cover multiple countries and languages, we take subtitles very seriously and pride ourselves in being able to convey the context, nuances and messages that our interviewees intend, rather than literal translations better than any other media outlets. We will continue to improve our subtitle quality going forward. Thanks everybody!

A tiny lapse can lead to a huge mistake. Translation is really important no matter which field you're in, really happy you guys corrected it, thx

I think China could use more soft power if it wants to be popular around the world. For example, what South Korea is doing with its partly government supported entertainment industry which helps popularized Korean culture via K-POP, movies, variety shows

    • @FF-ky3mp
      @FF-ky3mp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +58

That softpower is blocked by American nukes, soft power only comes after hard power. If Russia nuked American tomorrow back to the stone ages America's soft power would've been a waste of a century and trillions spent in Hollywood and Mass Media.

He’s right about the whole one world alliance thing. We should all come together so that we can all be great and run a perfect planet. We should be waving a flag of earth and not flags of different countries! We need to realize protecting the place we live on is more important, we should be discovering space and the world beneath us but all we do is care about war.

    • @saint8257
      @saint8257 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@neverthatserious8870 That's a whole lot of idealism that won't be accomplished. Since China has formed it has assimilated many ethnics and cultures, not the reverse. You think America, Russia, China are willing to assimilate? To be ruled by one another? Or all 3 merged for the govt/representatives of each country to rule over the world's '1 country'? Impossible.
The first obvious flaw is that'd be so inefficient. The US's Democracy has a similar system, and look how long it takes for decisions to make. Just by having 2 sides of *the same country* (Republican and Democrats), decisions to implement policies can be delayed for months, even years while they argue and try to oust one another while letting the public suffer.
Imagine that on the scale of 3 countries - and I'm not even talking about the whole word yet, just US, Russia, and China - all 3 of these countries have vastly different cultures, and vastly different governance views. Especially US and China, and the way they do things are also different. The same scenario will happen, with even much more variables.
But the 2nd flaw is obviously neither side will accept one another. That is why they rule their nations differently.
In my honest opinion, that one country on the entire Earth under one rule is impossible to realize in the foreseeable future.
The amount of propaganda America and its Western allies is spewing these recent years smells more like it's slowly cooking up to another conflict with China more like.

I don't know how random the selection was and whether only the most useful replies were selected for the video but if this is the thought process of the average Chinese citizen you meet on the city street, I am truly impressed.
Respectful and measured, informed and opinionated... that's the impression that I got from them.

00:47 When it comes to the economy, after learning from the west for over 40 years, it has reached a bottleneck as there's not much we can learn from them. When it comes to the influence…well, I'm not sure what western people would think of us, I've only heard of what we say about ourselves, so I think western people might not care too much about China.
1:30 Oh, I don't think so. The American economy is still advanced, we still have much to learn. I hope and believe that our country will be continually improving under our president's leadership.
1:50 When it comes to the military, the USA is the first, Russia probably takes the second place. When we look at the economy, we lag far behind in terms of GDP per capita.
2:05 If we look at the economy, it's no doubt that we are at the second place following the USA.
3:02 I think he's not very friendly to China
3:46 Trump seemed to have taken me by surprise.
4:38 If America doesn't receive enough immigrants, it will miss out many talented people.
5:22 China provides skilled workers and money, other countries provide the land.
5:32 This is an opportunity to let other countries get to know China.
6:14 Can't get our money back.
Some of the concerning countries are poor, they may not be able to pay back the money after finishing the infrastructure.
6:35 What he said is incomplete. It doesn't make sense to me.
6:39 Do you think China focuses too much on the global stage and neglects some internal issues?
What the interviewer literally said is "focus too much on the global development", I don't think it should be translated as global expansion[全球扩张])
6:59 It literally means "one eye looks at our country, one eye looks at the world)
If you don't look at the world, you would miss out many opportunities. If you neglect the internal issues, you would be unable to do well on the global stage)
    7:40 it's hard to say.
These are the spots in the given translation that I think need discussing. Please correct me if there are any errors in my translation.

I do think some others bring up a good thing about improving rather than trying to be the best. I think it is fine to strive to reach certain levels you see or maybe you see something you believe you can improve on that someone else is doing. But sometimes i think in the striving to be the “best” especially as something complicated like “best country” it opens up a lot more doors for failure and neglect. but if you try to improve in general i think you might get more well rounded growth and if you improve enough you naturally can become the best. Though sometimes rivalry is good, but i think if it goes too far it becomes something else.
I don’t really care what country is the best, but i’d prefer every country to be good/great to live in if possible. Sometimes your idea of best will differ so no matter what a country does it cannot fit your vision of “best” but it can still be good or great, i think that is why it is better to strive for improvement as a collective rather than “best”.
