We do in the movie at least: his name is Dastan. The original trilogy Prince and 2008 game one however are completely nameless. Only an Easter egg in Sands of Time (even then only the USA Xbox version) implies the former is a younger king shahraman but there’s no confirmation. I asked Jordan Mechner himself about it on Twitter and got no answer.
@@batatinhacomics It’s still his canon name. Nameless characters are a bad idea so until the writers come up with one of their own, that’s who he is in both the games and movies.
@ It’s his canon name now, bub. Until Ubisoft come up with their own name for him we’re using that one. Nameless characters are and have always been a fucking stupid idea. Same with faceless and/or voiceless ones too.
When I first played this game I did not speak a shred of English and thought the magic fountain was poison because of the animation. It means I avoided them like the plague, resulting in me playing the game through with my health bar at the bare minimum, unknowningly making preteen me's life infinitely harder
Great review, I remember playing this game for the GameCube, being really annoyed during the middle and never finishing it unfortunately. Also, Love the shifting sands music
This video couldn't have been timed better. I'm recently on the prince of persia journey again. I haven't played the original since I was 8. I remember everything about this game but replaying it made me wonder how on earth did I even compete the game as a child. The puzzles are brilliant and the story is fun and short. Can't wait for ur thoughts on warrior within. I'll be there
I just played this game for the first time on the PlayStation 2 for my channel, it was amazing! You can really see how Assassin's Creed was supposed to be PoP 4, especially after playing Warrior Within. What a perfect time for a retrospective!
Absolute classic. Soooooo much better than any of the sequels. The dialogues and relationship with the princess was so fresh and well done at the time. Making me fall in love with the characters in an action/platofrmer!? That was unheard of! Sadly the 2 follow-up games made me hate the Prince and were such blatantly pandering to the “cool crowd” 🤮
There are many things of this game that make no sense, and the combat is really basic and repetitive, but for those times we have to love the passion and the creativity that they used to make the game run so well (aside the camera issue) thinking this was on ps2 while modern games today not being half as fun of this game is pretty mind blowing, long life for those old devs at Ubisoft that probably left after few years. It’s a pure nostalgia hit as I was a kid when I played it the first time, but kids nowadays would rarely experience something similar.
I first heard of this game via an Xbox magazine demo (trailers) disk that also had Halo 2, Half Life 2 & Sonic Heroes trailers on it but I never got & played it on Xbox until after I played Assassin’s Creed 1 to Revelations and after I played The Forgotten Sands on Xbox 360. It’s now a top favourite platformer next to Tomb Raider 3, AOD & Legend, Blinx the Time Sweeper 1+2, Sonic Adventure 2 Dreamcast JP, Shadow the Hedgehog Xbox, Sonic 2006 JP and Mirror’s Edge. The Prince was unnamed in the series but in the movie his name was revealed as Dastan. Why Dastan’s name continued to be unused in Forgotten Sands (all versions) I don’t know. I never liked characters being nameless, voiceless and/or faceless.
Those sand arch viles who spawn more sand zombies you mention when talking about the combat actually appear in the HD version of Forgotten Sands and they’re just as annoying as implied. I usually use tornado power and strike them when they’re down to deal with them quickly.
I had last played sands of time in 2013 but got stuck on the daybreak section when jumping from wall to wall. No matter what I did I kept falling after the 3rd jump. Your video compelled me to play it again and I got stuck there again. Turns out it is a known bug on some systems. Disabling Vsync allowed me to continue and I have managed to get further than ever. Also I agree with you on the combat. The elite enemies are irritating. Interestingly the battle on the bridge can be completely ignored and you can just run through to the next section.
Ah, PoP. Another IP which biggest issue isn't itself, but that seeing Ubisoft's icon is one of the biggest deterrence even for casual players nowadays.
Aaah a classic i just replayed it last month ☺ but let me be clear i REALLY hope it just die's in peace instead of ubisoft butchering it and ruining my good memories
Persia of course being Iran in the present day: my grandpa & great grandpa were both Persian, the latter some Iran government big wig I’d never heard of.
It's atmosphere is meant to invoke the atmosphere of the Arabian nights. The writing in the castle is also in Arabic which is a bit confusing because they are meant to be in India.
@@shehzad_ali India is the tutorial only, specifically Delhi. Azad is a real territory in either Persia or Iraq (I forget where) though it seems to be nothing like the game: the game’s Azad is strongly implied to be built on top of Basra from Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow & the Flame, with us entering said city palace roof in the foundations via a secret passage in the baths. In the US Xbox release of the game, we find Prince of Persia 2 itself hidden behind another secret wall. Also, the book’s real name is The Book of 1001 Nights, not Arabian Nights like some people call it. It’s based on several different Islamic counties including the western edge of China in the original Aladdin. I should know: I have it.
You can’t go wrong with this game. I remember playing through it over and over on the PS2 and Xbox. Truly a classic
One of my favorite game of all time! I played it so much as a kid, it's so underrated!
I got called into work on my off day today, but an upload from you always makes things go by a bit faster!
Will always respect sands....but warrior within hold a place in my heart
This Prince of Persia 3D trilogy might be peak gamer EDGE.
I remember getting this and a silver ps2 for my 6th birthday. Good times.
I rented this from my local library for the ps2. At the time i was really into sly cooper as a kid so this game was a blast.
I remember playing this from the trilogy collection on my PS3 and I couldn’t get past the first level :D
Back when ubisoft was still making games with passion
The fact the game has few loading times and relatively few bugs says a lot about modern day Bugisoft
Without Prince of Persia there would be no Assassin's creed
Fun fact - We never find out the name of the prince in the sands of time trilogy.
We do in the movie at least: his name is Dastan. The original trilogy Prince and 2008 game one however are completely nameless. This was the first game that I felt an emotional attachment to the progression of the love interest in the main characters.

Sands of Times is nice but Warrior Within is my trur love
Great review, I remember playing this game for the GameCube, being really annoyed during the middle and never finishing it unfortunately. Also, Love the shifting sands music
This trilogy is an absolute masterpiece, story, characters, music! It's incredibly great. Warrior Within is crazy good
HARD AGREE
This was the first game I played in the franchise and it's my top favorite i finished it 3 times

Just call me Kakolukia.

My first pc game, love it
will you ever be making a video on rdr2 anytime in the future?
iconic
about the enemies that can counter vaulting they are still vulnerable to the prince bouncing off a wall and jumping over their heads that way
Great video, as usual. Real quick, you said “biffed” it…does that mean you listen to BTAS podcast?
@7:30 The prince of Persia jogs like Marcus from True Crime NYC. Am i right about it lol?
Fucking adore all POP games
You should do The Two Thrones next
PLEASE make a video going through the Mass Effect trilogy and the Left 4 Dead series
Wait, only 20 minutes? Ah, i was expecting more...
Please do a prince of Persia warrior within😢
This series just needs to update the remakes that didn't feel right
I take it based off the end of the credits Jill is your gal? 😏 Dorothy’s is more of mine but I gotta say Nice Chief.

I still don't get why the prince Lost Crown or what, has that disgusting modern day hair style, for a game set in ancient Persia.

I'm sorry but you mispronounced Oregon at the beginning of the video and as a native Oregonian I must thumbs down the video
Get a life

@@darthvader2053 fair enough
Isnt that the great thing about Oregon in the First place.
Almost every Oregonian was L ahoes. No one gives a f about your state or Portland dude
The remaster was always doomed as how can you improve near perfection?
