I’m part Chickasaw tribe from southeast Oklahoma and to see representation of the Choctaw tribe done so well is absolutely incredible, such a rich history that deserves its time in the spotlight!
I'm from the Siksika Nation in Canada. To see natives rocking Hollywood, to have representation is so great, I was getting emotional, and that's why representation is important.
I feel the same. Kwapa nation from Arizona. I watched this with my sister (first cousin spent most of my developing years with) and we both cried bc we both love marvel and watching one of our people have such good representation.
I love the choice to have Kingpin use an interpreter to communicate with Maya. It reflects how he has all of these resources at his disposal while also highlighting how he cares about Maya enough to invest in her usefulness but doesn't actually care about her enough to learn sign language like family would.
One of the coolest things in daredevil is that he showed Madame Gao he speaks Mandarin all along surpassing his interpreter. If they did that it would be really cool. I didn’t like the glasses thing at all
D'Onofrio as the King Pin really was a great choice for the MCU. It will be interesting to see if the MCU does have him battle Spiderman and really push Peter Parker to his limits. Have both sides forced to utilize their own resources just to end up in another war like endgame but at the street level. But make it a trilogy or tv series. Have Spiderman be forced to team-up with Bernthal's Punisher or Daredevil just to takedown King Pin.
Quick note for Jessica: Clint kills Maya's father during the Blip, as that's when Clint was active as Ronin. So mu h of the adult Maya scenes, (minus the present day of Hawkeye) take place during the blip as well. So Daredevil and Kingpin both survived the snap.
@@JacobDean88 in marvel the sanp n the blip r used interchangeably like the flag smashers want things back how they were during "the blip" which they can say during "the snap" n itd still make sense
I enjoyed the cultural and spiritual recognition in how the story was shaped. I also liked the gritty Daredevil feel of her story. “Stickball” is really Lacrosse, which was an indigenous sport that has been incorporated into college sports as long as I can remember, so there may be quite a few people that recognize the game. Good job breaking down episode 1 so quickly!
Also worth noting, they mirrored Daredevil in the final scene. The first thing Matt heard after being blinded was the drip of his IV. It's also the first thing Fisk hears when he wakes in his Hospital Room after being blinded.
Besides the recap of episode one, did anyone else find this series pretty fun and surprising. Lived the sign language which made me pay more attention to everything and biscuits was awesome
I absolutely agree, I genuinely loved it, the entire series. Unfortunate there were only five episodes. The first episode was one of their strongest they’ve done imo. I really hope we get to see more of Maya in the future
(Big channels get to see it before regular people so they can go-ahead and make these videos. It drives more engagement to both the channel that made the video and Disney+) (no hate at all, it makes sense) Edit: these videos take SO MUCH time and effort. Getting them out in three hours is…. a lot of the elder native american actors (Maya's granddad, grandma and father) played in Netflix's Longmire series which is how I know most of them and their acting is top tier.
The first time i saw the beginning, I thought of 1/3 possibilities: 1. The Hand from the netflix series, exploring the street level supernatural stuff. 2. Echo’s version of the Noor so to speak. 3. Then I saw the tribe’s transformation….that’s when I realized “The what if episode wasn’t a one off! It was intentional! Yes!” Meaning they were bringing representation for many of the native american tribes that existed centuriee ago and bring awareness to them. Which got me so damn hyped.
Has anyone mentioned that the spiral at the beginning of the episode looks a bit like the inner ear. Like the cochlea or something idk anything about this but I feel like maybe there's a connection between that first scene and ear stuff. Loved the episode though and I'm excited to continue watching
I'm a quarter Blackfoot Native American myself. This episode was phenomenal and really got me emotionaly with it's opening. Our cultures tell the first people coming from inside the earth, creator comes from the stars.
The grandfather is on Twilight too he’s Harry Clearwater and the “goddess” from the beginning was Leah Clearwater. I guess the pool for Native American actors isn’t huge it’s not a massive surprise that two properties needing a lot of Native American actors would have a lot of overlap.
I just finished watching all five episodes and although it has a lot of flaws in my opinion I really enjoyed this series! It has plenty of cool action moments and a lots of other amazing stuff! This is the most vulnerable we saw Wilson Fisk. This made me realize he's truly a broken and emotionally battered villain which is why he's always been one of my favorite villains in the entire MCU since Daredevil!

I think it's a red-naped sapsucker. Take a look. Def not a red headed woodpecker or a pileated woodpecker as shown in the video. Only thing is, those two sapsuckers not not native to southeast Oklahoma. Still soil to see some bird focus!
