i think the jade agatha took may be kind of important later on. jade is known to heal in many ways. i know it’s kind of a stretch but i think it may be part of how agatha gets her powers back, healing her energy. i also think that maybe it could be used to mend the relationship between her and aubrey plaza’s character, healing their relationship. it’s also earth related cause ya know, it’s a rock, and i think it may have something to do with the earth witch. also, i think that it’s kind of apparent that joe locke’s character says “billy maximoff” when he’s being bleeped. i could be wrong on that though.
OMG, DID ANYONE ELSE CATCH THE WIZARD OF OZ REFERENCES?!?!? The body of the dead woman was CRUSHED. Then Herb says "Oh, she;s really, most sincerely dead" that is a lyric from the song the Lollypop Guild sings in the movie!!!!!!!!
Maybe it’s just the The Wizard of Oz/Wicked fans in me, but I find it funny that there’s a lot of Wizard of Oz references in the show while the movie Wicked is coming out in 2 months (which by the way I am so excited for that movie!)
I'm surprised we're not talking about the sign that the crow landed on reading "Carter" - last we left Peggy she was timeline/dimension hopping with the Watcher. Would not be surprised (since he popped up in X-Men '97) if Agatha makes a big enough shakeup to get his attention/need fixing.
What about the part in episode one when agatha asks "are you sure she's dead" and he replies "she's really most sincerely dead"? This is a line from the munchkins in the wizard of Oz. Thoughts?
2 things I noticed: Agatha has been displayed frequently with wizard of oz references as you mentioned, but remember that there was even one in WandaVision with her boots being left after the car hit her!! Also, this is kind of random but I never saw anybody talk about: I think the credits of WandaVision were showing chaos magic working
"she's really most sincerely dead" has to be another Wizard of Oz reference from the coroner's bit in the munchkinland sequence: "and she's not only merely dead, she's really most sincerely dead"
Great video! But small thing from a real practicing witch here: the Star in a circle is actually a PENTACLE not a Pentagram. The circle marks the difference. And although many see both terms as synonymous, since we’re dealing with magick and witches here it’s definitely a pentacle being used.
Yep. The pentagram used to be a symbol of protection but over time it has shifted into a symbol associated with evil so the pentacle was created to more or less battle the stigma the pentagram has garnered. The pentagram is now used to symbolize devil worshipers whereas the pentacle is used to symbolize, again, protection but also the modern day witch/pegan/wiccan.
I had chills many times during rhe two episodes! Such a good sign. The Hecate song, the crawl your way out, kitty, and etc im so happy with this show so far
When rio attacks Agatha , Agatha says to her “you have no heart” and she replies “I do have a heart, it’s black and it beats for you “ . That’s the black heart
I'm only halfway through the video so maybe you touch on this later but: I think that Joe Locke is actually playing Nicholas Scratch. The only time we see him with Mr. Scratchy is when he is alone. I think the Darkhold maybe had Agatha give up something, a child sacrifice, but it was binding placed by the Darkhold onto Nick, binding him into the form of Mr. Scratchy. Now that the Darkhold is destroyed, the binding is weakened allowing him to maybe project himself into a limited form. But Agatha refers to Joe's character as her pet and her familiar. When he tries to say his name Agatha sees words across his mouth, as if a written binding.
in the end of vol 2 of scarlet witch, the series mentioned in this video - agatha & wanda survive the witches road with the help of natalia maximoff (wanda’s biological mother in the comics continuity) teen/billy says agatha is the only person to have ever completed the witches road. it’s gets a little muddy if you directly compare the comic run to the show, bc at the time when agatha & wanda go down the road, agatha is a ghost. they ultimately meet natalia on the road who helps them & sacrifices herself so that wanda & agatha can continue and succeed with the road. agatha then comes back to life and is not just a ghost. this is just a stretch of a theory. this comic run is just fresh in my brain because i read it within the last month.
I love that as they're walking up to the crime scene, dude says; "She's really, most sincerely dead." Like the Munchkins sang after Dorothy dropped the house on the Wicked Witch of the East.
I'm pretty sure there was a reference to That 70's Show just prior to The Ballad: 1. They're in a basement that *sort of* resembles the Foreman basement 2. The camera pans in a circle to show one character in frame at a time as they each speak their line 3. Mrs. Hart (Kitty Foreman) says she "doesn't do drugs", which is what normally happens in these scenes but her character is a straight edge in the referenced show
I really want to know if that statue in Deadpool and Wolverine is actually Wanda's from the 616. Only because that was the original script of the Darkhold.
The black heart does refer to Rio. When they had their altercation, Agatha told her she didn't have a heart, to which Rio replied: "I do. It's just black." And you said she is a green witch. That would explain why she didn't want to get her for the ceremony.
It also throws in some True Detective. The captions say "Ballad of the Witches' Road (True Crime version) playing" so it seems like a mix of a bunch of HBO theme songs.

I'm just glad they are on an adventure. I was worried this would be another Disney show where even when things happen, it feels like nothing happens.
The commercial breaks are unintentionally hilarious....from witch lore to health prevention ads😂
Something I never really caught onto till watching this. Agatha, like Deadpool and She Hulk can break the forth wall.
Is it breaking the wall or is she playing that character in a tv show that can break the wall.
i think the jade agatha took may be kind of important later on. jade is known to heal in many ways. i know it’s kind of a stretch but i think it may be part of how agatha gets her powers back, healing her energy. i also think that maybe it could be used to mend the relationship between her and aubrey plaza’s character, healing their relationship. it’s also earth related cause ya know, it’s a rock, and i think it may have something to do with the earth witch. also, i think that it’s kind of apparent that joe locke’s character says “billy maximoff” when he’s being bleeped. i could be wrong on that though.
Missed that Chthon head was on the bell Agatha used during the song
The way Herb said "water" at the beginning of the episode was also pretty unique to the Philadelphia region.
Wooder and crick are very Philly burbs
U mean wudder
@@itsporkroll3401 and all the way down into central Delaware
And over into Balmer 😂
Thank you, Ryan, for referring to background actors as background actors and not as extras! You continue to respect the semantics.
He also continues to say "symbiants" talking ab symbiotes 😊
They were actors because they acted... they had lines, were credited, had character names. If they were extras, they would not figure into the plot.
I don’t think it was an Easter egg pertaining to the show and its future episodes, but I loved Detective Agnes’s ‘Clue’ mug.
I think Sharon is the secret Villain.
The song shouldn't have worked without a Green Witch.
Wait is better help the company that got sued bc it turned out a few employees weren’t actually certified thearpist? Or was that a different company?
i think it is and they sold clients info
What an incredible show!! I wasn't expecting it to be that great.
Can't wait for the rest 💜
Joe Locke is portraying Billy SO WELL. It just cannot be another character.
Oh, that ballad! It gave me chills. It was so well done!
Maybe the W is really M for mephisto. Kinda like W wasn’t for Waylan Smithers but M for Maggie Simpsons 😅
The nod to Bewitched is also her house and not just the animation in the credits. The house she lives in, the exterior is the house from Bewitched
What about the part in episode one when agatha asks "are you sure she's dead" and he replies "she's really most sincerely dead"? This is a line from the munchkins in the wizard of Oz. Thoughts?
2 things I noticed:
Agatha has been displayed frequently with wizard of oz references as you mentioned, but remember that there was even one in WandaVision with her boots being left after the car hit her!!
"Black heart" is no mystery. They made a point of it during the fight in the kitchen.
That’s the black heart
as someone from New Jersey... it warms my heart everytime I hear "Woodur" and "Crick" hahaha
What did you think of the episode?
It was okay.
i liked it but that's just me.... 🤷♀️
I'm still for the episodes that are tributes to horror film eras
Loved it
Absolutely loved it I can’t wait for the others to come out
I'm only halfway through the video so maybe you touch on this later but:
I think that Joe Locke is actually playing Nicholas Scratch.
This what I thought too. I didn’t associate the “teen” with Billie. However, now I’m not sure who he is. 🤦🏼♂️
in the end of vol 2 of scarlet witch, the series mentioned in this video - agatha & wanda survive the witches road with the help of natalia maximoff (wanda’s biological mother in the comics continuity) teen/billy says agatha is the only person to have ever completed the witches road. it’s gets a little muddy if you directly compare the comic run to the show, bc at the time when agatha & wanda go down the road, agatha is a ghost. they ultimately meet natalia on the road who helps them & sacrifices herself so that wanda & agatha can continue and succeed with the road. agatha then comes back to life and is not just a ghost. this is just a stretch of a theory. this comic run is just fresh in my brain because i read it within the last month.
I love that as they're walking up to the crime scene, dude says; "She's really, most sincerely dead." Like the Munchkins sang after Dorothy dropped the house on the Wicked Witch of the East.
I was watching the first 2 episodes with my mom and when he said that I was doing that Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme!
Thank you so much for this video!! I definitely hadn't caught everything
The True Blood intro hooked me immediately!
I'm pretty sure there was a reference to That 70's Show just prior to The Ballad:
1. They're in a basement that *sort of* resembles the Foreman basement
2. The camera pans in a circle to show one character in frame at a time as they each speak their line
3. Mrs. Hart (Kitty Foreman) says she "doesn't do drugs", which is what normally happens in these scenes but her character is a straight edge in the referenced show
Bummed we didn't get the "Agatha All Along" song, but the first two episodes were SO good! Cautiously optimistic!
Always enjoy your thorough breakdowns! I wasn't feeling the premiere episodes but I'm going to rewatch them now with this insight. Thank you.
I really want to know if that statue in Deadpool and Wolverine is actually Wanda's from the 616. Only because that was the original script of the Darkhold.
OH my god this was SO much better than I imagined
The black heart does refer to Rio. When they had their altercation, Agatha told her she didn't have a heart, to which Rio replied: "I do. It's just black." And you said she is a green witch. That would explain why she didn't want to get her for the ceremony.
I got True Blood vibes when I heard episode 1 intro theme.
Same
Me too! God i loved that show
It also throws in some True Detective. The captions say "Ballad of the Witches' Road (True Crime version) playing" so it seems like a mix of a bunch of HBO theme songs.
The pentagram with a circle around it is actually called a pentacle! :] - a practicing witch
Rio is the “Black Heart” remember when Agatha told her she didn’t have a heart and Rio responded, “I do have a heart, it’s black”
Loved these 2 episodes. Simple as that. Hyped for each new week.
So far, so good! Loving the show
Thank you everyone for this awesome breakdown. You all do such an amazing job.
I hope Agatha end up Being the nanny for the Richards children!
I loved this new series. It's intriguing.
