    H.P. Lovecraft had been very scarce in the history of BBC Radio until quite recently - now he's made a number of appearances. This five-episode reading of one of his most famous and mythologically resonant stories takes the listener on a journey into the arctic wastes, and then into the undiscovered mountain range... and to the lost, silent city of an elder race of beings who lived and died there before the dawn of mankind...
    MYSTERIOUS MAGPIE is a channel devoted to ghost and horror stories on British radio, and to dark tales of every kind. I have another channel, MYSTICAL MAGPIE, which is all about stories of fantasy, mythology, and adventure: / @mysticalmagpie-wo5fn

    Thanks so much for posting this : brilliant, from start to finish, and no let up. BBC classic, I would say. Richard Coyle is note perfect, along with all associated members of the team. This is a high point in radio, and I think radio drama at this level deserves a resurgence in mass popularity. This was a real treat!

      It's amazing how compelling a simple reading can be when given to the right actor; in this channel I can also recommend 'Dark Matter' read by Lee Ingleby, 'Jaws' read by Henry Goodman, but one of the great 'modern classics' to my mind is Rufus Sewell reading the dark adventure stories featuring Doctor Syn, which you can find on my other channel, Mystical Magpie.

    Thanks for this. I really enjoy this compilation of these BBC broadcasts about one of my favorite short stories.

      I've got a couple of other Lovecraft readings on the channel that you might like, including the BBC reading of 'Shadow Over Innsmouth'...

      @@mysteriousmagpie I have just begun it! Have you considered uploading readings, if there are any, of The Omnibus? It's a horror series from the early 1900s that I haven't been able to find any recordings of yet.

      @@mysteriousmagpie I only have the actual hard cover books in their original print because I grew up with them. They are collections of stories by various authors that take place around 1870s-1920s I believe (it's been years since I've read them). There were different versions too, like I remember one was called "The Omnibus of Crime" and another was "The Supernatural Omnibus." I can look more into it when I visit my parents next for sure!

      @@WilliamAppel3 Actually, I know exactly the books you mean. I inherited three from my grandfather - I've a feeling they may have been printed for use by servicemen because each volume was something like a hundred stories packed into a brick-shaped volume (these are are ones you're thinking of, right?) They went through several editions, because I've seen one that had a red binding, but the three I have were in an older-looking black/brown design with gold leaf. I definitely have the Supernatural omnibus - with the shape of a bat picked out in gold on the front cover. In particular I remember opening it for the first time and finding a story about an explorer who encounters a terrible man-eating vine-plant in the jungle. I suspect that some of the stories in that volume are already on the channel, though I'd have to check - but this channel is all derived from off-air BBC recordings, so I can't make any guarantees about finding any more of the stories from those books... I'll revisit them when I get a moment, though...

      It's a good place to start. Not all Lovecraft is this good, mind, but his good stuff is well worth the time. I've a feeling that I've also uploaded Richard Coyle reading The Shadow Over Innsmouth...

      Thank you, but not mine - it was broadcast on BBC radio, I'm just sharing it. Richard Coyle did an excellent job of reading it though, and you can also hear him reading The Shadow Over Innsmouth - or, you can see him playing an alcoholic policeman fighting tentacled Lovecraftian monsters in the Irish horror-comedy 'Grabbers'.

    Elder Things Vs Xenomorphs ?
    Who win ?

    • @edmundkempin3170
      @edmundkempin3170 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Elder Things have pretty impenetrable hides and are highly intelligent. Not sure what offensive options they have seeing as they're basicaly just a sentient squid with wings. Xenomorphs have claws, a potentially piercing tail and are incredibly agile, but are far more primitive and would lack any strategy in an all - out war. Quite hard to say but I'd give it to the Elder Things, they'd probably be able to get the Shuggoths back under control and get them to simply bulldose and assimilate any physical threat

    • @user-db2fb1db1m
      @user-db2fb1db1m 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@edmundkempin3170 I agree that he shogoths would be able to contain the reproductive cycle of the xenomorphs if the acid didn’t adversely effect there biomass and or whatever operating structure they have .
      I think it would be a worthy far past vs far future war to dominate earth and maybe the only salvation from Marxist ideology and it’s xenophobic cousin crony capitalism.
