Despite appearances, there is no Lovecraft in this story; it is completely Derleth's pastiche of HPL's style. That said, I've always enjoyed it, and this is a good reading!
The descriptions of the area and the house are remarkable. In my mind, I can visualize a disintegrating backwater town in Massachusetts. Decay and dust fill the senses. The descriptions of the characters are amazing. I grew up in a very old house located within a small rural town with people who reminded me of certain characters from this story. "The Lurking Fear" is also very well-written and very creepy.
@@missmouse20 Precisely. HP Lovecraft used descriptive language like a master uses brush strokes upon canvas. The "canvas" is our imagination. Though some of his lexicon is archaic, it still serves a purpose to portray a sense of place and of a time long ago, in settings, either during, or shortly after World War One. -- W --
Yes. I felt sorry for him - in spite, of him having been let out and eaten animals and even people... looks like he couldn't help it. Should've been let out into the ocean.
The protagonist really is an idiot, isn't he? And for what particular or general reason is this story set in Dunwich? Other than that, fairly good fanfiction.
@@reverendparis7747 I think he's referring to how most Lovecraft/Derleth collaborations were just Derleth stories based on ideas Lovecraft had penned out before his death. I don't know if this is true of this one or not.
In my mind this guy is THE voice for Lovecraft's writing, I almost can't tolerate anyone else
I do like the narrator, sounds like an old radio host. Or a detective recording his thoughts
Yeah hes great, simply perfect
it's Wayne June.
Sounds like Joe Friday
@@unclesham5507 this is not Wayne June. But I know he did a recording of this story
This is the main reader for Horror Babble
A masterful story masterfully read.
well now my expectations are up there...this better pay off. though with lovecraft it usually does
Wondrously descriptive. The narration is superb. This is my favourite story by H. P. Lovecraft.

jesus christ this is amazingly written
This was powerful! One of the best so far. Glad I was familiar with the Innsmouth story. Thank you!
How does one sound like this? I love this narrator's voice.
I am pretty sure this a copy of an analog recording of an audiobook. So get 40 year old equipment and go ham
Pretty darned impressive , sir. Well Done.
Love this story!

@@walterfechter8080 Absolutely. One can't just listen to Lovecraft. You need to create the visuals in your own mind.

i have the 83hr Lovecraft from audible, but this narrator is so much better. Finn is the narrator from the one i have.
Try HorrorBabble ,here on TH-cam..A lot of Lovecraft and plenty othets..its very good
Poor thing, once more the deep ones are unfairly persecuted.
The only deep ones I like can be found at red lobster accompanied by the infamous and legendary "cheddar biscuit"

I don't think Tobias Whateley likes himself much less anyone else. Even his own family.
"Blasphemous Fish Frogs"
he's so horrified by everything.. would love to hear him narrate walking through a walmart or going to the dmv..😆 it would be priceless.
Who is the narrator?
Wayne June
Conrad Feninger not Wayne June
A, even.k
the narrator is Mike from the TV show dirty jobs
narrator is Mike from TV show Dirty Jobs
Lol close. It’s Conrad feininger

I believe Howard was from the area and this story has subtle ties to the "dunwhich horror" and more obvious ties to "the shadow over innsmouth"
Fan Fiction?
Don't question Art lol!

@reverendparis7747 yes, this story is written entirely by August Derleth.
