This was an excellent video, thank you. I appreciate your vulnerability of showing us your actual numbers and budgeting process. I’ve been out of school for 3 years, finally started into a real career, and the idea of having to pay for real life is daunting and confusing to me. My parents have been generous to me but haven’t set me up to understand all these things on my own. Please continue with the budgeting videos!
Id really love for you to show how you set yourself up using the app you use. I know you’ve said you’ve used ynab and every dollar in the past. Whenever I try to set it up.. I just get overwhelmed hah I feel like an 80 year old trying to learn how to use Facebook for the first time - lost!
I love seeing that you include ‘giving’ in your budget! I think it helps us realize how we are not entitled to all of our $, we are instead to be good stewards of what we have been blessed with. Giving back has consistently been the one money mindset shift for me that has paid dividends far beyond anything a bank can offer (fulfillment, inner peace, purpose etc). It’s also something to do when you have little as it’s a way to ensure when you have much you will be in the habit and able to happily part with more. Thanks for all your amazing content ❤️
I have a savings account for each of the following categories: gifts, car, dog, emergency/savings fund, travel, and a short term savings for regular expenses that aren't monthly or yearly. My bank lets me easily open as many savings accounts as I want so it's super easy to automate when I get paid. Then at the end of the month I transfer things around to reconcile the actual spending. I also use an app to track spending and saving which makes it easier!
Love this!…I’ve been doing my nails at home now for a couple years and I’m a real convert. Being able to relax in pjs and drink wine and catch up on TH-cam while I do them is amazing. Can’t recommend it enough if you’re trying to be thrifty bc it’s sooo expensive getting them done
Thank you for this video and your videos at all. I love how comfortable it is to watch and listen to them unlike most of the entrepreneurs on TH-cam just giving out advice and not necessarily act like it but you don’t make me feel like you’re better than me and as someone who struggles with their relationship with money - you make me feel much more motivated than all these other people because of your appearance and how emphatically you talk about it and that really helps me 💜
Thank you so much for this video! I appreciate you sharing your financial journey and knowledge gained in the course of it. This video especially has given me the extra kick to take my budgeting seriously now. 🙌 And how perfect the timing is as I’m starting to think about next year’s goals and what I can start on now!
Thank you, Christina, it was very informative! What really works for me is strict limits like 200$ is all i can spend on credit card no matter what. I have a wishlist of things I want and slowly get them 1 by 1. And also I look through my shopping carts everywhere and notice that some things I don't like or need anymore!
This video is honestly VERY helpful as I'm trying to basically cut out a lot of bad habits with the way I use and spend my money.... I'm planning to move out next year and share my first apartment with my best friend, and yet, the concept of budgeting has always made me feel overwhelmed and confused. Thank you for sharing this! 🙌
Very good budgeting! I love how transparent you are about your personal finance. Keep up your wonderful videos! Budgeting, pay yourself first (save / invest at least 10% of your income), track your expense and are the golden rules of personal finance, if not for life. Everyone should be doing this.
You just made my budgeting journey a whole lot easier with this template. I am just starting out and this looks amazing. Thank you for teaching me! This is amazing. :)
Hi Christina, Can you make a video of your jewellery collection?, how to invest in good pieces of jewellery that are basic and essential but worthwhile?
Thank you so much Christina, I hope you know how helpful and inspiring your journey has been to so many people, speaking for myself😊 With love from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thank you so so so so much Christina for this video because its truly truly important for me in my life and I love your vlogs so so much and I wish you reach 200K Subscribers very very soon!☺️✨💕
really helpfull! Thank u so much! only thing missing for me personally was how to deal with half a year or once a year expanses and how to integrate them in the spreatsheet. So yes, pleaase more budgets!
Loved it !!!!! So important to learn about money management. I would watch more of it. Just starting to be more financially responsible. Those videos help wth it.That was very informative .thanks
Very informative! Wish I had come across this video last year when budgeting my adult salary 😅 Still great source of info moving forward, thank you Christina!
Thank you so much for sharing this! It has inspired me to get back to a regular routine of budgeting. The more I was not doing it, the more daunting it seem to have gotten 😅
I calculated My Bills for The Month and I get paid Weekly. I divide what I "Owe" for The Month, by four, then I write in My Journal when a Bill is "Due". I also take a certain Amount and transfer to My "Other" Account so I can't touch it. I live in Canada. Then when certain Bills are due they are debited from My Account. I never use ABM (Automated Bank Machines), and when I shop I ask for The Receipt and I write what I wrote. I also do a Sheet where I determine what I spend in a Month, If I Spend more than I Make then I know I am in trouble but I do well.
Great video!! I set my budget up similar to you in excel and then input the numbers into mint to track. My accounts are directly linked to mint so it makes it easy for me to see where my money is going
Would you consider doing a a video on how you spend only $400 on groceries a month 🤷🏼♀️(that would be amazing) it’s just my husband and I and we are in Northern Ontario (5 hrs north of Toronto) and we are like $250-$300/week easy! We eat clean and whole foods but wow I would love to knock it down if possible. It’s crazy! I meal plan, make lunches, avoid takeout and we typically only eat breakfast on weekends as we do intermittent fasting and it’s still always so expensive🤯. I can never seem to come in under budget on groceries. I can not imagine the cost with a family! 😩
Oh wow I needed this … the spread sheet won’t help if I don’t set a why …. I owe 1300 in credit card and I feel overwhelmed…. Thank you for this video I know 1300 dollars is not much but that shows I’m very bad with my money
Amazing video Christina! I have been budgeting retrospectively and you’re so right that it’s hard to feel in control when you’re looking backwards! This video is full of amazing tips, thank YOU!
I just love yhour videos Christina!! Thank you for being so transparent and honest about your budget & life growth. I've learned so much over time about balance, mindset, budgeting etc. from being able to witness your journery. I'd also be interested in learning more about why you like Smart Sheet & what benefits it/cloud use gives you & if you've tried other cloudbased platforms! Thank you, as always!
Thanks Rebekah! I actually prefer to use the every dollar app (free)but found it hard to show on the video, so I used the smart template that I customized to make it similar to how my app is laid out !
i tend to lump my categories; food budget includes going out too (it forces frugality & a balance that favors what's bought at the store vs. restaurant) or gas also includes my lyft/public transport expenditures too. i wonder if lumped or individual categories saves more in the end...
I think whatever works for you! I do individual categories bc I like to know what went where, but I think there’s a lot of value and simplicity in lumping categories too!
Thank you so much for this video! I really wanna try. My trap is Klarna. When i order clothes and have 30 days to pay for them. I quickly forget about that and then I get my pay check suddenly I realise that a big part of my salary has to be gone to pay Klarna 🙈 it is hard not to use it because I live in the small city and there are not so many shops so I have to order online. And if I need a pair of jeans so I have to order a couple of different to see which one fits me and then return the rest. So to pay at once for 5 pair of jeans and wait to get refund from the shop in a couple of weeks was not gods idea for me and I started using Klarna 🙈
Loved this video and the template you shared! I'm having some trouble opening it and wasn't able to make a copy to save for myself! Would you be able to share it another way perhaps? Thanks so much!! :)
@@Christinamychas I had the same problem, it's like it doesn't actually open in google sheets as there's no file menu at the top of the google sheets window like there usually is (not the browser window).
Same here! Just came to say the same thing-doesn't allow me to open in sheets, it opens in a new window browser. Thank you for uploading this Christina :)
Unfortunately still the same problem! There’s no option to make a copy as it opens through smart sheets kind of and not really google sheets. I appreciate you trying to figure this out for us!!
Your video came right on time. I needed a reset on my budget this month and the next 2 months before 2023. I've been falling behind and going over my current budget because of unexpected expenses. I need to keep in mind to always budget for these unplanned expenses 🥲 and your video is a quick reminder to do so. Thank you! 🤑
This was great. I have an excel sheet that is way less fancy than this where i have columns for categories and the last column subtracts the columns form the initial column. Also curious what cocktail one drinks for $15? In VHCOL and i think drinks at a restaurant now are like $20
I’m struggling to pick where I want to invest I heard the blank takes a big manger cut and was recommended to do wealth simple by another investor just wondering your thoughts it feels overwhelming. Also where do you put the money where you don’t spend like car maintenance etc.

I have never really had a budget. We used to live paycheck o paycheck. But my mother in law passed away. And left my husband money and her house. So the house sold right away. And less than the appraisal. We’re hoping we don’t have to pay capital gains taxes from that. We’re going to see an attorney and have take care of that for us. And we’re getting a right of survivorship. So if either one of us dies, the house and everything we have goes to whoever survived. I have lots of debts. But my pension I get covers everything and I have money left. That’s where my problem comes in. I buy lots on eBay. And we have been giving our granddaughters money when they need it. And their mother. I plan on spending my money when I’m alive and not giving it to them when I die. I just hope everything we have is paid off and there’s some money in the bank. My mom always told all her kids about how much money she had for us. Her money went for a nursing home. And she been in her right mind she might have been mad. We didn’t care. We knew we wouldn’t get my money. We just wanted her taken care of and to make sure she got her medicine everyday. Which she wasn’t doing at home. Maybe, some of the others in my family didn’t appreciate it. But that’s what happened. And that’s the way it goes. She lived there three years. And they took care of her. So I was happy. I am the youngest of seven kids. And I know live in a different state. And then my mother in law had a stoke. She was in an expensive place. But she only made it a few months. So my husband and his sister got some money and my husband got the house. It wasn’t a happy time dealing with m sister in law. She thought she should be in charge. But after their father died, she didn’t talk to her mom for in years. And my husband did everything. His mom never drove. And she had a schedule. And did not like to have to alter her schedule for anything or anyone. That is one of the reasons we moved to another state.
