    I have never knitted before. I decided at 44 yrs old to teach myself. I decided to check out TH-cam and have been so blessed to find Marly Bird!!! You are a marvelous teacher. You are clear with directions and make things easy to understand. I have now knitted scarves, hats, and now SOCKS!! I am so thankful for your videos and insights!!! Thank you!!!

    Marly Bird, thank you so very much for these videos. You have helped me and made such an intimidating project doable. I have a wonderful widow friend who has made socks and sweaters for herself and her now deceased husband for YEARS and I have finally taken the plunge and began my first pair with your tutorials. Your encouragement is so needed and I thank you!

    You are the best knitting teacher! I have never though I will be able to knit a sock. I struggled so much and I started so many times with other videos I watched until at one point I gave up. And then a miracle happened. I found your group and I started again to knit socks and now I'm almost finished. I am so excited. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

    Laurrie Sobie here - You are a very good instructor. Articulate, attractive, knowledgeable and you do have an excellent vocal power.
    I DO know because I teach quilting and some stitchery , and I too have a good vocal voice. Not all instructors are created equal.
    I have watched all of your sections because I DO enjoy the way you offer your knowledge. I MEANT to just watch the heel version
    because I was very taken with it - and I DID learn a lot that I was not aware of. I was interested in the gusset tips, the novelty heel
    flap. i am grateful that the time I took to watch the tutorials on the computer ( I am staying in a home that has NO TV, so this machine
    - and your tutorials, plus some of the others I have watched, have saved my sanity). Not all are created equal, but yours are sincerely
    excellent and have given me much information I previously did not have. Thank you. I now know where to find you and pull you back
    up when I get home.

    Thank you so much for doing this KAL. I was taught to knit when was 12 because my mom tried to teach me crochet but I just couldn't wrap my head around it. When my right elbow flared up badly and I was diagnosed with RA over 20 years ago, I had to quit knitting and taught myself to crochet. Over the years I have tried to pick knitting back up and was unsuccessful every time. Your way of teaching is so clear and patient that I have been absolutely loving this project. I plan to get more Chic Sheep and making many more pairs of socks. My ONE request is, can you help us figure out kids sizes? I had promised my niece a pair of socks and I've been unable to follow through with that promise. Again, THANK YOU.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, I will help you with kids sizes :-) I am working on a kids pair of socks now so I can release that pattern.

    Thank you Marly, wonderful videos easy to follow your instructions. I love knitting these socks. I thought I would love to knit socks with the smaller yarn and needles but find that it is easier to purchase those. We don't have the Chic Sheep yarn in Canada yet but I use the Red Heart Soft brand. Good job! .

      Diane Reid-Lapointe i am in Canada and bought Chic Sheep at Michaels in BC. I did a practice sock with Red Heart Soft - I found it knitted a bit bigger.

  • @lesliebowles3649
    @lesliebowles3649 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well, this has been a blast. ( tho, a year late) I wasn’t brave enough to, possibly, spoil my Chic Sheep yarn so I used Red Heart “soft” - a random ball from my stash for a “practice” sock. It has turned out perfectly. ( a little bigger because of the yarn but good so I can see all the details as I knit.) Your tips were lifesavers! The cast on - I wouldn’t even have started without that instruction! How to hold the needles? Best tip ever! I feared taking out an eye or puncturing a nostril, or worse. I have not a single ladder in sight - tug tight. I’m on the home stretch - the foot - so will take a pic and post when I do the toe. Just wonder if I will ever make a mate for this lone sock. They might make good house slipper/socks. Can’t wait to start with the Chic Sheep.

    Now what i want to know is : how many stitches needed for a kid sock? My kids are 4 yrs old (wears a size 11 for little kids) and 7yrs old (just started wearing a size 1... Can still fit in a 12/13 but mostly a size 1)

  • @sylviamiller886

    I love your shawl do you have a pattern for that too?

  • @lindachandler2293
    @lindachandler2293 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of my feet is larger than the other, which is one reason I like making socks that fit me. It's super simple to adjust the size and make a left and right sock; no one wants to wear mismatched socks. It might not be obvious which one is which, unless the size is dramatic, so make a discrete marker of some kind, so you don't waste time trying to figure it out.

    If I want to make a pair of socks with finer yarn and smaller needles - I’m not sure how to adjust the stitch count. I’m thinking, maybe, if I found a pattern I could just use your method and the pattern’s # of sts ?

      I give information on that on my blog with the pattern instructions for week 6.

    love yor videos, , question how do you make it fit tigher on the foot part , as min4 seems to be a little loose after i tried it on . and thamks for the videos.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could decrease even more at the gusset and bring the total number of stitches down more to have a more snug fit. If it were me, that is what I would do. You definitely want the sock to have more negative ease vs poss ease.

    • @MarlyBird
      @MarlyBird  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      technically, you can use any needles you wish. But this particular KAL is for using double pointed needles specifically and a general sock pattern. :-) There will be more videos in the future for how to use two circulars, magic loop, and such.

    • @vondaphinazee1121
      @vondaphinazee1121 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Karol Jelbert I am using magic loop and ONLY be ause I have made a pair of socks before have I been successful. It was fine until the turning of the heel. I wouldn't advise circs or magic loop unless you have made socks before. Isn't Marly awesome.
