  • This design is fun and easy! I'll show you how easy it is to paint a peacock feather on black paper using metallic watercolors. These make wonderful bookmarks and cards if you wish to paint smaller. Feel free to use traditional watercolors on white paper if you prefer, the technique is the same!

    Hello Lindsay, I just want to thank you since your videos have been a calming experience for me in light of the recent chaos happening here in India. Everytime I get choked by anxious thoughts, I find myself returning back to your videos in hope for some peace and positive thoughts. It is such a fulfilling experience to watch you create out of joy and it comforts me to think of you as a lovely art teacher I never had. It must be a precious honour for your students who get to see you in action in real life. Thank you for all that you do. I pray and hope with all my heart that the light within you glows brighter everyday.

    I really appreciate that you encourage people to use what they have instead of running out and buy the things they don´t have, there are usually more than one way to get similar result :) ❤️
    It turned out really pretty :)
    Thank you for sharing this and for all the tips on what else you can use to make this :) ❤️

    Your timing on this is perfect! I just bought my 9 yr old grandaughter metallic watercolors, colored pencils and watercolor pencils along with markers, water brush markers and paper for Christmas. I have to add some black paper! This will be a great project for us to do together. And a way to have her combine the media types and get a feeling for the results. Thank you so much for all of your work to keep us creative, Merry Christmas and Happy, healthy New Year to you and yours.

    I'm a fairly new subscriber, I happenstance upon this tutorial and I love it! What a fun project! I definitely want the metallic paints anyway, and this will be a fantastic starter project. As an artist who hasn't used watercolors, this will be a great starter project and will make lovely gifts. Thank you for this today!

    I don't have a feather handy, but for some reason I always thought the center spot in peacock feathers was a iridescent green. These are really pretty and great use of these sparkly paints.

    How pretty! I can't wait to do this with the Paul Rubens metallics. Your link for the tassels was wrong, but I found some on Amazon, still as cheap as you mentioned. They're a total of 5" w/ the cord, though; are yours that long? Wouldn't a whole peacock on black be stunning!

    Hi Lindsay! I use mixed media black paper for my metallic watercolors, works great. Once I tried using black drawing paper but the dye from the paper lifted immediately and contaminated my brush...not sure if card stock would do that but the canson black mixed media is nice, thick, and inexpensive

    Ewe could cold laminate the bookmark in the Xyron Lite Machine which I am planning to buy ... lol ... that way the metallic paint won’t rub off ... and if Ewe don’t have metallic paints Ewe could use eyeshadow in the mix ... I used to sell Younique Mascara and Eyeshadows etc. and I have a whole kit of the products so planning to incorporate the mica powders into My Embossing techniques etc. ... lol ...

    • @recoveringsoul755
      @recoveringsoul755 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think in one of her other videos (or maybe someone elses??) she said that if you put this metallic paint under glass you could not see the shimmer anymore, because of the glare of the glass. I would think laminating it might do the same thing. I used to have one of those Xyron machines, they aren't like the kind of heat lamination you get where the paper is fused to the plastic. It just kind of covers it, but it can peel off if you don't leave a big enough border especially. With a real laminated piece, you can cut it up and it won't fall apart. But with the Xyron, at least the old model that I had, if I cut it the paper was separate from the sheets of plastic on both sides.

    • @nelliechappell6193
      @nelliechappell6193 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Recovering Soul I think in the new 5/3inches Ewe can use a 5 cartridge or a 3 cartridge and there are magnetic too cartridges the you tubes I have been watching shows that it is laminated both sides or Ewe would put it thru twice ... I will check that again ... lol ... And the laminate would not be as shiny as glass would be ... lol ... I just bought my Xyron 150 sticker X ... lol ... I am waiting for Spotlight to have a store wide 40% Off Sale post Xmas ... lol ?.. it is $100 here Down Under ... lol ... funny though online the Xyron 9/5 machine is cheaper than the 5 Lite but I figure the lite I’d more practical

    I watch all ur videos. Esp love this one : ) im mentioned b4 im new to mixed media and today started watercoloring people &im hoping u could help since uve used every set!lol..i have a prima princess coloring book supposedly on watercolor paper. Among my j. Davenport pans i purchased the prima complexions so i didnt have to mix while learning. The prima skincolors are very very blotchy even w watermarks. Is this a skill thing? Bad paper? Caused by waterbrush (no water filled)? They look like they had an uneven spray tan. Most complexion colors r very dark so i have to add water(is this how to lighten?) The other colors look good tho smaller spaces. Any thoughts? I really look up to u becuz u watercolor just beautifully!!

    Love your videos. I've been a follower for quite sometime. However, I don't recall seeing a video that explains the different types of watercolor paper. I've always dabbled in "painting" and is just now becoming more serious with it. However, tonight I used a lighter weight paper and it wrinkled terribly. Can you explain the different weight of paper and what each would be good for (ie, watercolor, acrylic, pencil leads, etc. You explain things so well and I enjoy your spunk. Thanks Lindsay. Merry Christmas to you and yours. (If you've already done this ... please point me in the right direction. Thanks.)

    • @kathryncastanares525

      You may just need to just go thru her videos on her channel if you want to see her explanation. If not, there are many other videos that explain the difference in papers and their uses like wc paper, sketching, pastel paper, etc. Also googling would be a much quicker source for this information. Although i definitely agree with you with liking her way of explaining things and her lovely personality. I had no idea there were different or specific papers for different mediums when i first started painting even after being into art and drawing for a long time. And after spending a long time sketching in something i wanted to paint i learned the hard way and was so upset.lol anyway, even still i dont know everything i should know about papers, and just found a good one and have stuck to the same brand but ive found a good heavy weight hot press paper works great. Between 120-300 lb paper. I cant think of the brand exactly that i have since i order in sheets but i know arches has good paper and stretching or taping it down helps keep the paper flat while painting.

    The solid central core of a feather is called a quill (as in quill pen!). The 'fronds' are called barbs.

    gorgeous! i have a question that doesn't pertain to this video, is about water markers like the tonbow. i have never used brush pens or markers before, but got some at michaels on a good friday sale. When you use these water brush pens or markers, what do you use for white? to highlight. thank you!

    Lindsay, have a question. Not related to this , but I love it! What color in watercolors can I buy that is mint green? I’ve looked but they don’t call it that in stores? Can you help?

    • @kathryncastanares525
      @kathryncastanares525 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am pretty sure they have the color displayed on the tubes, pans, or right near them and a lot of art stores have testers to be able to swatch. You dont have to shop by name really unless you're looking for a specific color? But if not you can just look around or swatch for the exact shade you're looking for by color instead of name. Especially since a lot of brands give their colors special names even if they're regular pigments like ultra marine etc. So because of that they will usually provide a color swatch on the label somewhere so people can see what they're buying and if not, stores will provide a tester to let people test swatches.

    Well Having watched this first thing this morning ... I was driving to Physio and there is a peacock farm opposite the Hopetown School and there is a 40k school zone and after the car in front had passed a peacock ran back over the road and there was 4 little chicks running behind ...it was so cute strange if that was daddy not mummy ... lol .. the other week I was travelling in the other direction a car in front and a peacock ran across the road ... what made it funny was I had overtaken a tour bus 2 sets of lights and the name of the company any pic was The Roadrunner ... so I said Hey Peacock Ewe are Not a roadrunner ... lol ...🦚🦚🦚🦚🦚
