Hands down Makita all the way, my Dewalt was strong but not balanced for me and good power but i didn't notice much difference, it kept shaking, this one was spot on.

I have the new 40v recip saw and hammer drill. They both have an absolutely noticeable power increase with the 4.0 battery. I would imagine this rear handle would be the same.

I have some 18V x2 tools and it never bothered me enough to want something different. They were always great and I love them (they can get heavy after a while) but I am sorely tempted by this 40v stuff. I'm digging this saw. The batteries are (even more) pricey but all these "super duper" batteries are.
My xgt 7 1/4 rear handle came in last week from acme tools. I must say it is super smooth and it’s all I’ll use now my 18 x2 is only going to be a back up.

Hey yo Clint! Fantastic my Man! I know you’re not overly fond of Makita, but yet you still review one of their tools, and call it like it is. INTEGRITY. This was very interesting, but I don’t think I’m going to run out and replace my 36 volt ‘Kita? I do agree about the two battery system, but it makes the XSH01 run “like a Ferrari!” Battery side is homely! Kinda reminds me of the M18 chain saw, but hey, it’s about cutting through the wood after all. @ 07:08 you can see through the blade, a really cool visual effect. You do it all, Clint!

I have mostly Makita 36v and some 18v tools. (10 inch compound miter, weed trimmer, and saw like you showed). Yes they are very good tools. Like them more than any of my other brands.
(Bosch,Ridgid,and others). I do not have any of the dewalt tools but know that most of the contractors I have used like their dewalt products a lot also.
I got the saw, love it! Only got 1 4ah battery, but it’s lasts and charges super fast! Was cutting all day Friday, building a mahogany privacy fence. By lunch I still had plenty of juice left, and 30 min later when I got back from lunch the battery was fully charged.
The dewalt might have more umph going through PT, but the makita is def smoother and faster when there isn’t too much resistance. Haven’t cut any PT yet.

My battery sucks, I have the 4h 40v that came with it and the battery lasts about 15 min non stop I was making stakes out of 2x4

As a finish carpenter I along with most my brothers in saw stay away from the 71/4” saw & go with 61/2” . Not so with the Mikita! I use my 36v to split plywood ,make jigs ,cut 4x4, 6x6’s and on! I own a Skill Worm and would not do that on a precise cut! The Makita 36v or 40v I would! I use two 5 amp hour batteries and for me that’s good!
I really hv no good reason to switch anytime soon? However if I was a framer I would ? Time is money and steps saved is money made! However I am a precision carpenter / cabinet maker! But I enjoy that saw!

I just bought the 2 battery one , haven't used it yet. They had an awesome deal at Home depot , it was 100 bucks off and 2 free batteries + the 2 that came with it !!!! I already have a Makita platform ... Love the blutooth radio and speaker ,, but Why don't they have it combined with the charger for batteries ????

I just watched your short review of the Skil Rear Handle saw (9/3/2022). Do you still feel this Makita is a great saw? I have 8 18v 5.0ah batteries due to a screw up by HD in my favor (HD told me to keep them and the 2 dual bay fast chargers). Would the Makita 36v Rear Handle saw still be a good purchase? A series of videos detailing what to look for when purchasing various power tools would be very helpful for first time buyers, especially coming from the viewpoint of a professional such as yourself, Clint! You can keep the Ferrari of saws. I'll keep the Toyota of saws in 7-1/4", Milwaukee. Mine does what I want, damn well with Diablo finish blades (60 TPI). But that's only because I'm already wedded to that battery platform (and my favorite color is red). If I were an actual contractor, I'd probably have a best of selection of every tool. But I'm a handyman, with limited resources, so I'm sticking with the platform I'm on. M12 & M18 cover everything I need, from furniture assembly (M12 installer driver with four heads) to concrete bolts (M12 5/8" SDS+) to M18 1/2" drive fuel nut buster (installing "exercise" equipment mounts in ceiling joists - I don't judge).
Makita 18v and Milwakee M12 platforms here at this house. I did a buy battery adapter for M18 tools to feed from Makita18 batteries just in case an M18 tool adopts me LOL
I have a handful of the 36 volt tools and for me the two batteries work out really well. I loathe having multiple chargers and non swappable setups. To each their own.
Yeo Makita should have made the 40v batteries backward compatible imo ,that's why I love my Flexvolt tools.

I have a ton of 18V tools and two 36 volt tools and it's so damn cool that I can just use my existing Makita batteries in tools that deliver "40V" performance. I think this system is absolutely awsome. The 40V system is great as well and it's good that it's there, but it's just not for the average user. The investment is HUGE, regardless of the fact if you already have 18V tools or are starting from scratch. For the amount of money you'll have to put down to get a basic set of 40V tools and batteries, you can get a small workshop full of 18V and 36V tools and all the batteries you'll ever need. And the difference in performance between the 36V Makitas and the 40V Makitas is not too great, they both are 36V after all. They are more powerful, but you really, I mean REALLY have to need that tad of extra power to justify that investment. Plus the extra risk, if a tool breaks or get's stolen, if a battery breaks or get's stolen, you instantly loose a TON of money. Want to expand your business and need extra tools? Again, the investment is WAY higher. So, If you are a mason or a heavy metal worker or something in that area, sure, 40/80V is for you. If you are pretty much anything else, going 40V will put you at an economical disadvantage without bringing anything to the table that would translate into a competitive advantage.
Im a 3rd gen carpenter by trade. i am building something 15 hours a day- 7 days a week, whether thats on a jobsite or in my shop. I bought the 36V rearhandle saw 4+ years ago. Long before Home Depot came out with them for $249 w/2 extra batteries. THIS saw was a HUGE investment at $379 the day i bought it and yet I just ordered the 40V at $365.......today.
Don't forget both the 18V 5aH and the 40V 2.5aH both have a 90Wh capacity so you're comparing apples to apples in that sense 👍 (2.5 x 36 = 90 and 18 x 5 = 90). And the 2.5 40V has 18650 cells just like the LXT.
Makita is underrated in general!
Why is it not (2.5 x 40 and 36 x 5?) The two batteries are ran in series to get the 36v right?
A few things.. the Makita "40V" line is 40V "max," so 36V nominal. On the 36x5... you're correct, it would be 180Wh. Good catch!

The Milwaukee fuel with a 6ah battery lasted from 7am to 12pm cutting here and there. I bought the xgt and I was making stakes out of 2x4 and my 4ah lasted 15 min non stop. Maybe I have a bad battery

6400 rpm? Whaaaa? The 36v is 5100 rpm. At 6400 the cuts must be smooth as a baby's bottom! Plus the blade guard not hanging up on a cut start? I have to admit you should of done a 5 ah battery to keep it equal. Dewalt had the early advantage here. There is a massive difference when using a bigger ah battery as power output/ amps is balanced across more cells. Means Less volt drop and more current can be pulled by motor. Think of it like 1 hand that can lift 10kg lifting a weight that’s 10kg . Its giving its max to lift it. Now 10 hands lifting the same weight doing 1kg each. Each hand would work less and would have 9k in reserve lift strength . Battery cells are worked less and have more to give when there’s more of them sharing the load. It’s the same on every brand and battery.

The older x2 18v and the new 40v are both running at 36v...exactly the same voltage. The weight advantage is a big deal on the new saw. That said, I won't be upgrading. I'm too invested in the 18v platform and they are powerful enough for me.

another difference is the two battery saw runs up to 5,100 RPM. The single battery saw runs up to 6,400 RPM.

I got the 36v, some flexvolt stuff too, and once the batteries are in its makes no difference.
Literally the only true one battery system running close to 300 tools and when you have apps that need the higher power... 2 batteries..the entire jobsite from lights to rotary hammers to blowers... I battery... 1 charge system... not sure why one doesn't see the efficiency and value of this.
@@travisjazzbo3490 yup on job sites guys putting in lags, holddowns, the 36v saws for the guys up on the roof and in the rafters, your charging platform will get alot of traffic. Batteries swapping from the 36v sawzall to your saw in the rafters or into a impact and driver after hacking away to install hardware. 18 v is all you need. Plus I like the weight spread out between the two batteries compared to the big blocks for the high voltage batteries from dewalt and Milwaukee. Balance of the mikita rear handle 36v feels alot better than the times I used a comparable dewalt or Milwaukee system.
@@travisjazzbo3490 That's not true, at all. Dewalt has their flexvolt platform, which runs all their 20V and 60V tools off of one battery platform. Milwaukee can keep up (and when it comes to impacts often beat) many Flexvolt and LXT 36V tools with their 21700 based High Output batts. Both tool lines are just as comprehensive as Makita's, but neither have quite as many overlapping products.
Makita's 36v system is a compromise, and while it gave them an edge early on, it has since been surpassed and it prevented Makita from moving onto 21700 LXT batts.
@@reaperreaper5098 Let's talk about it. Imagine a professional job site... Would you see professionals with BRICK BATTERIES on 1/4" impacts, or common drills, or small recips or any small power tool? Professionals care about ergonomics as much as anything else in power tools, as they should. I realize in the construction trade, probably the majority are not really PROs, but I am talking about real professionals, and what batteries they will be using per tool every single day, 100% of the time.
So, while the big brick battery of DW (Flexvolt) will work in the small tools, it makes no sense to use them that way on a regular basis, nor are they advertised that way, as it not only makes it the tool significantly heavier, but it also loses any balance it was designed to have originally with the normal batteries.
With Makita, the design of the higher powered tools, with the 2 batteries, is designed for excellent ergonomics, and those same batteries are literally designed for almost 300 tools. Flexvolt is not designed to use for the hundred-plus or more applications of a small tool.
That is what I mean about the TRUE ONE BATTERY system... It is literally designed so that the LXT system is literally for each and every tool, from small, to large, all day, every day.
