In this video I'm building the Airfix Starter Set of the Eurofighter Typhoon in 1/72 scale. It's a good starting place for anyone wanting to make models of modern aircraft in particular.
00:00 - 01:08 Introduction
01:08 - 04:29 Unboxing
04:29 - 16:51 Build
16:51 - 17:47 Conclusion

I was in Snowdonia recently when a couple of these flew very very close. They banked sharply around a mountain just in front of me and they were gone. You got a great view of the underside of the fuselage with all the dummy missiles attached. It was such a great sight I turned to my partner with a big smile on my face and she just tutted. Very noisy and scary she said, cant they do this somewhere else.
It’s Mach loop in a nutshell
A simple model, but it certainly looks nice once assembled and painted!
Thanks Michael!
Brilliant!! Loving these Airfix builds Thank You
Thanks mate!
Thank you for this - very informative!
Great looking kit Gary! I must purchase one to go with my RAF Harrier and Royal Navy Sea Harrier
I'd wait for the new starter set Typhoon FGR.4 due later this year - should be a much better moulding.
@@garys_stuff ohh right! Thanks for the tip
I must admit when I see all of these fighter models displayed with the undercarriage out in 1:72 scale, its a pity Airfix hasn't made a QRA hanger to display them in, now thats an idea.
That would be an interesting tableau, complete with pilot hot-footing it toward his steed!
@@garys_stuff Great video btw, I found it really useful, as I have been watching this and several other tutorials on how to easily build an Airfix model, as I have never done it myself before, thank you.
Great video you put together. Hope there more to come.
Thanks! Oh, yes there are plenty more to come…!!!
@@garys_stuff Great and thanks very much for replying to my comment. I have a new video out now on the update of my layout plus a special remembrance too.. Hope you like and share.
I like watching these videos I hope your Chanel grows and more people subscribe
Just bought a couple of starter kits from Aldi (available in store next week)at a very cheap £4:99 each.So check them out everyone.
Ordered some as well - what a bargain! Thanks for the notice! Cheers, Gary
@@garys_stuff no problem,it’s nice to let people know about bargains,I ordered the the two German planes and the quick fix for my 6 year old.
Got the six starter sets - doing a quick video about them (with a shout out to you!) and I'll build them all and put the videos up before Xmas. Thanks again! Cheers, Gary
@@garys_stuff my pleasure Gary, carry on with the great vids.
Great model mate absolutely fantastic, cheers for the review. Just of interest, are the wheels on any of your aeroplanes movable at all?
No, the wheels are static.
@@garys_stuff that's a shame, would have been an awesome feature considering the tanks' tracks are mobile.
I am enjoying you videos tremendously and I would love to get back into building models as I found it so relaxing but what do you do with all the models once they are built?
Cheers Chris. At the moment I have a very crowded wall where once was a CD/Blu-Ray collection which is now ten shelves of kits. The bigger ones are in cardboard boxes in the shed. I am approaching critical mass and will have to do something more practical with them at some point!
Just a thought Gary. When rubbing down kits how about a small bit of toothpaste as a very mild abrasive as well as the mild soapy water? That may clean off residue /and/ provide a key for paint.
And it will smell minty fresh. Might work - never tried it!
@@garys_stuff *LOL* re minty.. that's why I said a small amount :)
Well tidy
Pilot looks great. Will you be building the new Concorde kit from airfix, it comes as a gift set with all the paints as well like these starter sets. Released soon I think.
Got it on order myself! Will do a video of it when it arrives. Cheers, Gary
Which is better, Airfix, Italeri or HobbyBoss?
Don't know the Italeri or Hobby Boss kits - the Italeri is almost as old as the Airfix tooling (1992 as opposed to 1990) and the Hobby Boss is from 2008 so I guess will be more accurate and better moulded simply because design and manufacturing technology has improved so much. But I've not made either so can't offer a definite answer I'm afraid.
Have you built the Harrier GR9 starter set? A build video would be appreciated - but if not don't worry (I understand money doesn't grow on trees 😆)
Hi Daniel, the answer is (a) yes I have built one but (b) there’s no build video as I did it a couple of years ago. However I am tempted to do it again. Also, there is the Sea Harrier FRS.1 kit coming out very soon that shares a lot of build with the GR9 (I’ve built a couple of them too). I gave a GR7 to build but it is going to be a conversion job with an open engine bay, etc!
@@garys_stuff Yeah I might go for one of the starter sets or the new Sea Harrier. Thanks anyway, I've heard it isn't the best build
It can be a bit of a pain. The air inlets are not great, and having the exhaust pipes cut in two doesn't make it easy to look seamless! The last time I built an FRS.1 I had a load of after market stuff like resin nozzles and they look much better. Have a look on auction sites for these if you're going to make any kind of Harrier. Otherwise it's not a bad kit, they could just have done a better job IMHO.
Well money comes from paper and paper comes from trees
@@marmalade4010 ah but does ink grow on trees
