Also it should be mentioned that the IS200 was the first to start the stylised rear tail lights, both in the modified scene, but also other manufacturers started making fancy lights

You're right but I held back, fingers crossed I'd get a completely original one at some stage

Great video! Yes, tastefully modified cars are what got me into cars 30 years ago. And these modern classics will be full on classics very soon

Good video John, personally I’m like to keep cars stock, but I have a lot of respect for the work and money that can go into a car like this and how they get superchargers etc.. hooked up is beyond me. Love the IS200, my brother had one, beautiful sound off it, but you have to bring it well up the rev counter to get it to move. Keep them coming

Yep it needs to be driven hard in standard form but a supercharger helps with that too 😄

I enjoyed that, I still think I prefer a standard one but kudos to the owner for making it their own. I think you should do an episode of its ‘rival’, a 6 pot e46?

I've done an M3 but I agree it would be nice to compare it to a 320. And yes, I'd love to drive a standard IS200

Nice car, looking for a decent one of these at the moment. Hope I won't regret it!

I would also class these as the modern equivalent of the Corolla SR's that used to be all the rage around here in the north and in the south (especially in Dundalk) in the CB radio days of the 80's and as you say each to their own. I have always been a fan of the "sleeper" (looks stock but is far from it) myself and after a series of subtly modified Rover SD1 V8's and various other large engined tanks later I find myself in a stock LS430, as I am now at the age where low and harsh suspension etc has given way to comfort :) My days of lowered springs are long gone replaced by air suspension and leather seats but the sound of a muted V8 still gives me the same pleasure as it did back then.

You're talking my language with the SD1. I really miss mine, sold it and ut broke my heart to do it. 1979 in Midas Gold with a rare leather interior

@@JohnsGarageIreland my first one was also in Midas Gold but with an odd orange velour :) in fact I had 3 Midas gold cars :) I'll post a photo on Twitter

@@oldwarrenpointforum please do. Mine was great. 45k miles from new and a service history stamped up every 800 miles or so.

I Enjoyed this video, maybe you would consider doing a review of a Toyota GT86 sometime, it's also a fun RWD Toyota with a very retro feel despite it just being released in 2012 👍

I'd love a GT86, one of my favourite modern cars.

A few years ago I happened to be driving through Letterkenny on the weekend of the Donegal rally. There were literally hundreds of these altezzas/is200s.
