I really enjoy reviewing the British style of pronunciation, especially words with/j/. It is quite hard to master that sound.
Also, Anne is really kind sharing the pronunciation with us.

Thank you very much Michael. I enjoyed it a lot. Very interesting. Also in portuguese, here in Brasil we have different accents and vocabulary from Portugal.

I really love teacher the way your speech for every letter is like a harmony 😊 I have been struggling with pronounciation. I tried it many time but it was really complicated for me to apply it when I spoke.

Thanks so much! I really hope these video lessons help you. Don't feel bad if your accent isn't where you want it to be. It's fine as it is, I'm sure. Accent and pronunciation is an ongoing journey :)

I would like to listen to words like "pursuit" "pursue" "pursuing" in UK, because to me they are hard to pronounce. Where do you think I can find those?

Hello Michael, Thank you so much for the video. I have a doubt. When the American lady said: water, better ,bottom, native, city etc, could you understand her and do you think she could understand you? because the sound of the "t" in those words sound so different to my non native ears in British English and in American English. I am curious to know if that difference in pronunciation might cause understanding problems. In Spanish we have something similar with the letters "S" and "Z" those sounds are pronounced different in Spain from the rest of the Spanish speaking countries, but that difference doen't make any interference in the communication. Bye. Thank you again for the interesting video.

Good question! I imagine it's very similar to the S and Z sound difference in Spanish. I can only speak from my own experience, but when I listen to an Amerian speaker, I don't even notice they are pronouncing it differently because I'm focused on the meaning rather than the way they say it. I'm sure it's the same in reverse too. I notice it more now because I teach English, but we can understand each other almost all the time. The only exception is for stronger accents. I've seen some Americans having trouble understanding Scottish and Irish, mostly because they haven't had much experience listening to it in the past.

I didn't mean it to be a lesson! But I really enjoyed having you on as well. I'm sure there are many words you say that I don't know too, so perhaps you'll have to quiz me one day haha. Thanks so much!

Good request. Well, watching these videos is a good start I'd say! I spoke about this a bit in episode 9 of my podcast (Level Up English) so I really recommend giving that a listen. I also summarised my advice here: www.levelupenglish.school/listening
Sorry the page looks a little ugly now but the site is currently being updated.
Anyway I really hope that helps

@@hakalshaw9402 I did a podcast in 2020 about the IELTS exam which I think was helpful. I could share some more things about IELTS, but I try to avoid it because I think there are many people who are better trained than me to talk about it. Maybe I'll explore this more in the future though. Thanks for watching and suggesting!
