Just wanna share my experience: I weigh 150lbs/69kg. I have a 4.5M V1 Armstrong. I’ve gotten up with it effortlessly with 15-20 knots on a pretty big board and low aspect thicc foil. I’ve been trying lately with 10-15 knots and I absolutely cannot get it going. I prone foil every day. I ride 2-3 minutes for every wave I catch. I learned to prone foil on a Maliko 280. In my opinion, you can often be somewhat overwhelmed/overpowered and make it work. Not having enough wing or foil can be very painful. I think it’s a better plan to progress and realize you can downsize, than to have zero progress and have to get different gear.
Awesome info! I’m going to get a 6M wing because the spot near me is typically 10-15 knots. My 4.5M isn’t cutting it. We get 15-25 knots every now and then. And then the 25-30+ is pretty rare and I know not to go until I can handle it and would have a smaller wing by then. The recommended charts foil manufacturers offer seem to be pretty solid advice.
I have actually learned with a F-One Cwc 7m in 10-13kt winds in Barcelona, Spain (paired with axis PNG 1150 and 75l board) We just don't have really strong winds here to be honest (my weight is 68kg) But I totally agree the power is a a must have first days! 🙂
Great stuff - the charts are super useful all by themselves. And agree fully to start with too much power. I see many people struggle un necessarily on small wings. Look forward to the foil size one next ! I will post these two on some Facebook wing groups,
Grewt video. So what im taking from this i probably need a 6 or 7m wing to get me started. There is ofteb plenty if wind here in wales alot of the time and im 70kg. So 6m ok?
It’s actually quite difficult in light wind. You really need a bit of power to make things happen at first. You can use a stand up paddleboard or a high-volume wing board in super light wind to learn how to handle the wing. You Likely won’t get on foil for a long time though.
A sup board is an awesome way to master the wing. Grab a stick on dagger fin if you can. It will help a lot but Isn’t a deal breaker. You could also get away with a smaller wing but I imagine you’ll eventually want to upgrade to a wing board right? If so may as well get a somewhat larger wing so things are in your favor. That said if you are somewhere very windy a small to medium wing would be prime. 🤘🏼
@@ryanrygogoloversic8826 I want to wing foil eventually, but at the moment I have an iSUP board with the center fin already, so might as well utilize it first before getting into foil boarding. Im 86-90kg and want to surf as fast as possible, after watching wing supping, it looked pretty slow, so I thought getting a 7.0 wing, hopefully it will suit a foil board very well too. These size things are very new to me. I haven't observed winds too much yet, but seems like 8-16 knots at my spots
@@ryanrygogoloversic8826 How will a 6-7m wing work on a foil board later? I read that with experience, foil boarders like to downgrade to smaller wings

Wow! Congrats on tackling such light wind. Good call on the 7m.

Glad you liked it mate! Thanks for the requests and the shares!
Yewww . Thanks for the video it was very informative.

5 or 6 is a good first wing. Later it will be your light wind wing.
I'm trying to learn in 0-30. Kind of a challenge. Learn something every time tho.
That’s the mindset. 💪🏽
Great show, I wish I had this kind of information a year ago 👍🏄🏼♂️
Cheers mate! Do you have any tips for new riders or ideas for videos that would have helped you?
20kts seems too much wind for a beginner IMO

what is the difference between wings in the quiver ? 0,5 m ?
Sorry what do you mean? The gap’s between sizes?
Thanks
Thanks mate very helpful
Cheers Dion! ⚡️
For the algorithm!
Ha thanks!!!
Do you know if I wanna start wing surfing on a SUP board, should the wing be bigger?

Definitely go big. 🤙🏼

If you are in such light winds, you will want a large wing anyway. I'd say go big you wont regret it.
