Bose Wave Radio CD Model AWRC1G loud buzz through speakers

  • This is a Bose AWRC1G Wave Radio CD. The unit had a slight hum in the background after a power outage then went to a loud buzz shortly thereafter. My initial thought was that it was just a cap but in this case the problem turned out to be more.
Initially I found the 2SA608 transistor at Q206 bad. I replaced it with a NTE290A only to have it immediately start heating up. The input on the 10V regulator was low (as was the output) and there was excessive Vpp sawtooth. This indicated to me there was an excessive load on the 10V circuit somewhere. I traced out the 10V circuit and found a TDA7313ND IC at U605 running considerably hotter than any other IC. This IC is primarily used as a digital volume control. I think it does the input switching as well. I pulled the IC and the 10V returned to normal with no excessive heat. Replacing the IC and transistor resolved the issue.

I had the same problem of loud obnoxious buzzing. The volume chip was hot and the voltage from the 10v regulator was low too. Got a replacement from eBay and my awr1 is working again! My revision didn’t have a transistor in the 10V circuit. Thanks for your video as it helped diagnose and fix my radio😊

I'm guessing this is prob the same fix for my bose. It makes crackling noises when turned on.
You mentioned you don't really care for bose. Why not? Just curious.

Hello, where are you located in USA? I have a Bose wave radio AWR1-1W (no CD player). It started playing a loud buzzing sound after some music... intermittently music would play fine for a few weeks, then loud buzzing after music, now loud buzz only, so I do not use it. How would I contact you about this? I'd like to send it in, located in CT. Thank you.

Good day Paul. I'm in Oregon and normally wouldn't even work on a Bose but, like I said in the video, this was owned by a disabled vet and I got the impression it was his only entertainment so I wanted to try to help him if I could. I'm sure there has to be a tech closer to you than Oregon. Who knows if it would even survive shipping back and forth. I've come to the conclusion UPS stands for "United Package Smashers". If you can't find anyone local, let me know.

ON A FUTURE VIDEO OF THIS RADIO, YOU GOT RID OF THE LOUD BUZZING SOUND AND THE RADIO WORKS FINE NOW.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. The last 15 seconds or so of this video is the radio back together and playing normally.
