Sencore LC102 Displays "Short"
มุมมอง 575 หลายเดือนก่อน
One of my Sencore LC102 Capacitor Analyzers started acting up. When testing a capacitor or trying to zero the lead calibration the display would show “Short”. This was a bit of a hassle for me to find because I didn’t really understand how the unit determined if a capacitor was shorted or not. While poking around I found one stuck and one stuttering relay as well as a shorted transistor. No dou...
Pioneer RT-707 Reel to Reel. Speed, Auto Stop and Auto-Reverse Issues
มุมมอง 1.2K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
These are the two main issues I see with the RT-707 Reel To Reel. The speed is off (usually very fast) and the pitch control has no effect. Additionally the auto stop is either not stopping the mechanism when it's at the end of the tape or taking a while to do so. Bonus tip at the end for instant reverse when hitting play.
McIntosh MC112 No Stereo or Stereo Light
มุมมอง 143ปีที่แล้ว
This is a McIntosh MX112 Tuner/Preamplifier that had no FM stereo and subsequently no stereo light. I found the 16-volt regulated supply down to a little over 14V. Replacing the 16V Zener at D201 in the power supply brought the voltage back up to 16. The 16 volt was now good at the collector of Q101 but the base and emitter voltages were low. There is a 1.5M pullup resistor at R101 on the MPX b...

McIntosh MAC4100 Goes into protect at low volume
มุมมอง 2.4Kปีที่แล้ว
This is a McIntosh MAC4100. The complaint was that the unit would go into protect as soon as the volume was turned up. This problem is caused by a 470uf 16V cap at C603 on the power supply board but it's a good idea to check the other caps on that board. In this case all three (C601, C608 & C609) 220uf 25V caps were also bad.

    1977 I bought a 9600 brand new. Also got two JBL L100 speakers, pioneer 530 turntable and A100 Teac cassette deck. I paid around $1700 to $1900 ish for all of it. The 9600 was around $800. The JBL's couldn't handle the 160 watts per channel but I liked the sound and figured I wouldn't use their rated power of 100 watts. Fast forward 2005 my wife wanted me to throw away stuff in a closet that we no longer used. On the closet floor was my 9600 in the box it came in. Cosmetically looking 99.9 percent like the first day I opened it 1977. For grins with no speakers connected I plugged it in and much to my surprise it powered up but the relay didn't kick on. I powered it on off several time and once the relay did kick on but didnt when I tried it several more times. On the eve of trash pick up day I grabbed it by it's two beefy handles and placed the beast alongside the trash bins I had just dragged curbside. Slightly saddened but with surround sound and all the other gadgets in the house I thought it was time. I am nearly certain it must have had the same power switch problem yours had. I had no idea of the value nor do I currently know when the value of such vintage products rose so sharpley but obviously had I known it would likely be still be in the closet or sold, I don't recall if some neighbor or passerby grabbed it from curbside before the trash pick up guys came but I hope someone did. (Analogy) When I bought it new it was to receivers what Detroit's largest BIG BLOCK's are to cars. Powerful, built rugged, built to last.

    i can't understand why almost all tech posts focused on these "fusible resistors" ? big finds or what??? seemed to me they have nothing more to draw viewers' attention. my copy had regular resistors on board, two of them changed value a bit but still ok, i replaced them with "regulars". while i was still in the process to find out ways and means to fix the board, i bought two F-2436's which were from QRX-6001 per seller. they work too as " transition boards " on my 8080, and they don't have fusible resistors too. i want to add, sansui, just like marantz that i blasted, they were very inconsistent, they both in many spots assembled boards differently from design drawings and used different parts on board which might not be even mentioned in the schematic diagrams, such as two physical fuses on my 8080 copy. i also want to add, many (not all, of course not) posts just brag their work whith flipping shots, they don't really want show us how to how to deal with the issues.

    • @tipsfromthetechbench4589
      @tipsfromthetechbench4589 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've never made a video for that but maybe next time I will. It's really easy though. Take the plastic shield off then lift the brake lever so the brake is not tight on the drum. Work the belt under the brake till it is completely on the back side of the spool. Next use a booger hook to manipulate the belt to the counter pulley. You can see the pully from the backside easiest. Manipulate it into the groove on the counter then go back and make sure it's in the groove on the backside of the spool.

      "Shift followed by F10" or holding down the shift then tapping F10? You need to be holding down the shift key when you tap F10. If you're doing it correctly then it's possible the manufacturer has reassigned the F keys in the BIOS. Not uncommon on some laptops. You will either need to turn off the hotkey reassignment in the BIOS or use a function reassign button such as a "FN" key then shift-F10.

    Hey there! Beginner here - curious why the existing setup causes the wafer switch to go bad. You say "because of the high current" referring to the original setup before the 'red wire mod.' Would you mind clarifying how the original setup is problematic/detrimental to the wafer switch? Thanks in advance!

    • @tipsfromthetechbench4589
      @tipsfromthetechbench4589 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll be the first to admit, I don't explain things all that well. Think of it like this. When the signal portion of the wafer switch gets dirty/noisy the signal (channel, function, etc.) will cut out. There is no current to speak of on the signal portion. You can usually clean and de-ox it and it and it will be fine. The same switch (different segment) carries all the current for the old incandescent lighting. When it gets dirty/noisy, it will arc and heat up the switch contacts eventually burning them. This mod just removes the lighting from the selector switch so it's on all the time instead of only when the tuner was selected.
