  • In the 10th episode of Paths Less Traveled - Iran, I’m visiting the beautiful city of Shiraz (شيراز) - The city of poets, literature and flowers.
Shiraz city is possibly the most beautiful tourist city in Iran, located in Zagros mountainous region. It was the hometown of the great Iranian poets like Hafez and Saadi, and has so much to see, and great food to be eaten along the way!
We’ll start the day with a visit to the beautiful Nasir al-Mulk (مسجد نصیرالملک), also known as the Pink Mosque to see the amazing light shining through the windows.
We’ll stop by a traditional bakery to see Nan Youkhe being made, and of course try some! We’ll also get to try Masghati, the traditional Iranian sweet.
Then it’s off for more sightseeing at Qavam House (نارنجستان قوام) and the Narenjestan Qavam Garden - a beautiful mansion with lush gardens dating to 1886.
On the way to the Vakil Complex we’ll pass by the Bibi Dokhtaran Shrine آرامگاه بی بی دختران(بی بی خدیجه), one of the few shrines for a woman in Iran, as well as trying the juice of Kasni.
In the Vakil complex we’ll visit the Vakil Mosque (مسجد وکی), Vakil Historical Bath (حمام تاریخی وکیل) and Vakil Bazaar (بازار وکیل) as well as visiting the Arg of Karim Khan (ارگ کریمخان زند) - the traditional 18th-century citadel built by Karim Khan of the Zand Dynasty.
They’ll be an amazing lunch of Gilani Stew at the highly rated restaurant Fatholmolouki Mansion (عمارت فتح الملوکی) before desert at Kivan (بستنی کیوان), an amazing ice cream shop on the ice cream street of central Shiraz. Here I’ll get to try Faloodeh, the unique ice cream and rose water noodles, along with amazing thick Iranian ice cream.
As if that wasn’t enough, we’ll take a look at the huge complex of the Shahcheragh Holy Shrine حرم حضرت شاهچراغ (ع), Imamzadeh Jalal Al-Din امامزاده جلال الدین (امامزاده زنجیری) and the Jameh Atigh Mosque (مسجد جامع عتیق - خدای خانه).
As the sun sets, we’ll finish the day at the Tomb of Hafez (آرامگاه حافظ), the most famous of the Iranian poets and a romantic spot in the city. We’ll even hear a poem by Hafez told by my friend Reza.
    What a day!

    PATHS LESS TRAVELED
In the late summer of 2022 I embarked on an epic road trip around Iran, during a time of unrest as protests escalated across the country.
Covering around 6200km over 24 days, I was able to see this incredible country in a way that many are not fortunate enough to see, and to record my experiences in a way that has not been done before.
Safety concerns meant that I had to limit my filming on occasion, and stay well away from any signs of the troubles going on.
However, what I did see was an incredible insight. Some of the most wonderful and welcoming people, incredible history and culture, and mind blowing food.
Paths Less Traveled - Iran is my story of my experiences, put in an in-depth series of Iran travel vlogs.

To watch your videos travelling around Iran I can’t help but be amazed. Away from the hot spots the people are so friendly and it makes for a wonderful insight into a country we know little about. Looking forward to seeing more.

And you know what, Barbara ....
Up until the so-called revolution it was a quite open country (although the shah didn't do much good for the people).
But I know quite a few in my family who traveled to Iran several times, enjoying the rich culture and archaeological sites .... and lovely weather.
I wish we could get back to some of that openness and I think it would be quite a tourist attraction for a certain segment of tourists

No one can deny that Iran is among the oldest civilizations in the world, with a rich and beautiful culture and architecture. I want to travel to Iran to discover these amazing cities, underrated by Western media. I'm Moroccan and would like to visit Iran because there are many similarities between the two countries. However, I think that Iran is a more developed country than Morocco in terms of organization and cleanliness as well. What do you think?

Masqati means "of Muscat" it is a kind of Turkish delight
Kâsni and shâtare (the drink) are chicory and fumitory extracts
Gilan is the name of a northern province and that meal is known as "Akbar joojeh" (jooje=chicken)
Faloode noodles are made of starch

Can you please tell me how to get a Visa for Iran - if you are American or Canadian. How did you get the Visa?
I really want to go but the visa process seems extremely difficult for us.

    • @ChrisKermis
      @ChrisKermis  ปีที่แล้ว

As an American, Canadian or Brit you have to go with a guide, so the company you work with will sort it out. Give it 2 months though from applying. You need to give your complete itinerary so you need to work that out with the guide/company you use before the visa application. I went with key2persia and I think they did me well.

Love the Iran that we don’t see in the west……however, your videos don’t flow smoothly…..it jumps from one sight to the other…
It’s annoying when the viewer is enjoying looking at one site, and then suddenly it changes…..perhaps an editing issue……
Nice to see all the historical places we studied in schools….
