  • In the 14th episode of Paths Less Traveled - Iran, I’m visiting the incredible city of Isfahan (اصفهان), said to be the most beautiful city in Iran.
We start of trying fereni, a traditional local breakfast before heading to the main square itself (Naqsh-e Jahan Square میدان نقش جهان), second in size only to Tiananmen Square in Beijing. We’ll do the local tourist thing and take a horse carriage ride around the square before visiting the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque (مسجد شیخ لطف‌‌الله) which used to be a private mosque for the royal family.
After that we’ll head slightly back from the square to visit Chehel Sotoon Palace (کاخ چهل ستون), also known as the palace of 40 columns. It’s a beautiful 17th century palace with a reflecting pool, amazing frescoes and a classic Persian garden.
Then it’s off to the lovely shop Deja Vu Saffron, to learn about and try the best Iranian saffron before heading around the corner to Toghi Behesti Miniaturist (مینیاتوریست), to meet the artist producing beautiful miniature paintings using a brush of cat hair.
Then it’s time for lunch at the popular and delicious Emarat Namakdan Cafe (کافه عمارت نمکدان) where I’ll try Chicken Tahchin.
After some fantastic food we’re back in the main square to visit the Imam Mosque - also known at the Abbasi Great Mosque (مسجد جامع ‌عباسی), the larger of the two mosques on the square.
Next we’ll visit the Aali Qapu Palace (عمارت عالی ‌قاپو), the striking 6-story palace that served as the official residence of Persian Emperors of the Safavid dynasty, with a beautiful terrace overlooking the square.
After all that it’s time to relax at the incredible Azadegan Tea House - Chah Haj Mirza (چایخانه آزادگان - چاه حاج میرزا). A hugely popular and totally unique cafe in the bazaar filled to the brim with antiques and character!
We’ll head back into the Qeysarie Bazaar (بازار قیصریه) via the main entrance the Qeysarie Gate (سردر قیصریه) where we’ll see some traditional metalwork and printing of linens before trying Bastani, the amazing saffron ice cream on the square at the popular AliGhapou ice cream shop (بستنی عالی قاپو).
We’ll finish off for sunset at the Qeysarieh cafe (کافه موزه قیصریه) with it’s amazing terrace offering a wonderful view over the square as it fills with local life in the early evening.
Come with me and discover this amazing city!

    PATHS LESS TRAVELED
In the late summer of 2022 I embarked on an epic road trip around Iran, during a time of unrest as protests escalated across the country.
Covering around 6200km over 24 days, I was able to see this incredible country in a way that many are not fortunate enough to see, and to record my experiences in a way that has not been done before.
Paths Less Traveled - Iran is my story of my experiences, put in an in-depth series of Iran travel vlogs.

This is the best Vlog about Naqshe-Jahan I've seen so far. Although it is an ancient site, it was and still is a functioning square to this day and deserves to be showcased as such. The shops and workshops in the surrounding indoor parameters are just wonderful to visit and watch and shop from. This is a wonderful video and does the place justice, Thank you Chris.
