    Thanks for making this step by step video to make a simple fix to what should have been a plug and play from the factory. Just completed the remote relay and the old 5.4 is purring again for a fraction of the cost to replace the entire unit.

    Just performed on an 05 Excursion Limited. Can confirm, this will work for the fuel pump relay bypass as well with the same indicated color wiring on the back of the CJB. BE ADVISED: I performed this on an 05 v10 6.8l gas config. My CJB still had the nice factory plastic cover on the left side covering the main in, so instead of using that as my power out at all times, I piggy backed off the front of the fuse panel for the Diesel Fuel Heater (which appears to be live at all times on one leg). Thanks again OP for the good description and video.

    Great video. Clearly explained the problem and the fix. Kept it up on my phone while I did the repair...just to make sure. Worked perfectly on my 04 F250 5.4L Lariat. Wiring was different colors/positions on other videos. I found that this video had the CJB (fuse box) ending in "BH", but some other video's CJB did not end in "BH". Make sure you are looking at the same CJB. Im not 100% sure, but I believe some wiring colors/positions differ between the different CJB's. Once I sorted that out, this video made it super easy. Thanks for the great video!

    @Klopner2666 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hey, i have kinda the same problem.. while my fuse location tests good, im not getting any power on the backside of the fuse box.
    so im wondering if this solution leaves the pump working the same as factory(cycling for 15-20 secs and then running on ignition) or if it has constant power while key is on (never stops running while key is in acc position)

    • @RockDude84
      @RockDude84  ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you wire it correctly. The pump should shut off if the key is on accessory and not running. Essentially what I did was using external relay to power the fuel pump versus the internal relay that typically goes bad.

      Was the wiring color the same on your truck?

    • @davidhjelmeland8626
      @davidhjelmeland8626 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikecimmarrusti8734 On my truck, C270a, which is the larger connector with the slide lock tab was the correct color of (DG/YE) at pin 22. The smaller connector, C270f was (LB/OG) at pin 10, so that one was a different main color, but same stripe color. Nonetheless, same pin location. If you're weary, reply with the full vin # and I can verify wire colors and locations for both fuel pump relay control and switched power output. If you have small picks or a de-pin tool, you can also just carefully remove the wire and pin from the connectors prior to cutting to touch test with the relay to ensure fuel pump on/off noise. With that also being said, you're not bypassing the inertia switch, so make sure it's still there and the button isn't up. Ultimately, it was a decent band-aid repair as it would intermittently stall on me at idle. I ended up just coughing up the dough for a new SJB.

    • @mikecimmarrusti8734
      @mikecimmarrusti8734 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidhjelmeland8626 any reason you didnt stick with the external relay and installed (I assume) a rebuilt SJB? Seems to me it was a bad design to begin with and a week before this happened I was towing a boat 300 miles. It would have been a bad deal to have it just die at speed while towing.

    • @davidhjelmeland8626
      @davidhjelmeland8626 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @mikecimmarrusti8734 even with the external relay, my truck would intermittently stall only at idle. But would fire right up and would never have issues while moving. At the time, I was still working at the dealer, and my parts guys were able to get me a new SJB for about 350 out the door. Never had an issue since.
