Land Rover Discovery 1: Off Road in Oregon

  • We took our 1997 Land Rover Discovery V8 out for a quick rip in the mountains of Western Oregon. A good portion of the morning was spent clearing fallen trees, which would have been a lot easier with a saw. By the time we got to the top, the normally spectacular view was completely fogged in. Still, any day out in the Disco is a pretty good day.
    I'll be publishing more Land Rover content soon, so consider subscribing if you're into that.

    I loved my 97 Disco as well. It had its reliability issues but as an off road car it was the best. Made my 70 Series II A ride like a log wagon. I climbed over stone walls and forded 4' of water to win me "best off road" driver in a Land Rover sanctioned event.

    Love this video. Offroading with nice view and relaxing music. It’s good when you can still hear this engine revving. Unlike other videos with loud annoying beat music. Keep it up! 💪

    I've never bothered with carrying a chainsaw off-road, but a few years ago I bought a fantastic folding bow saw that lives in my Disco year round. It's made by Agawa, and I just love it. Takes up no space at all!

      That’s actually a brilliant idea. Usually it’s just a race against the clock (childcare/babysitter) but if I ever have more time and want to clear trees, I’ll definitely bring a snatch block.

  • @jackfairman7371
    @jackfairman7371 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Not bad for an American, try slowing it down a little and consider using low range if you have it. Slowing down will stop you dropping as hard or beating the suspension. I'd personally avoid stumps if you can help it, unless you have the money for a diff case and/or diff. Overall nice video and trailing. Keep up the good work.

    • @tfrasca142
      @tfrasca142  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tfrasca142 Ahh, I normally use high until 1st doesn't cut it or I need extra torque for steep climbs or more control for slippery ground. Your ratio is a bit higher than I'm use to as I have a Defender 110 so that makes sense regarding being faster in low. Also you're welcome.

    • @tfrasca142
      @tfrasca142  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, plus it’s been on stock gearing with the 33” tires, so it’s way too high overall. I just ordered gears and lockers for it though, so that’ll be sorted soon.

    • @jackfairman7371
      @jackfairman7371 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tfrasca142 The gearing being a bit lower will be hopefully be nicer to drive in low, and lockers will be a nice addition! Supposedly rear alone makes them fully capable but I'm not at the stage of needing a rear locker yet, nor do I have the money as I need to save for a house ahaha. Hopefully once it's done and you post the videos they'll show on my YT. Lockers will make it go almost anywhere, as I'm sure you know.

    • @tfrasca142
      @tfrasca142  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jackfairman7371 That's my thought too. I could have done everything I want to do with a rear locker, but since I need gears, that means I'll have to open up the front final drive, and if I do that I really should upgrade the diff. Scope creep is real.

  • @AapVanDieKaap
    @AapVanDieKaap ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You nearly tipped over! I'm glad you didn't You should be careful using your brakes like that. It's better to let the vehicle stall, then change to reverse and start in gear for a gentle descent.

    • @tfrasca142
      @tfrasca142  ปีที่แล้ว +1
