Sir, please help...my File Explorer crashes EVERYTIME I Drag&Drop files, Delete files, Install Files and even when I Download files...it seems the problem is me making any changes to my folders...everytime I add or remove a file, the file explorer closes down and restarts itself and that cancels whatever process I was doing. Also, I opened the Task Manager and went into Details like you did, I realised I have two "explorer.exe" files...that should be concerning, right? PS: All this started after I installed Windows 11 (I was using 10 initially). In my attempt to move back to Windows 10, I learned that I would have to lose all my files since there's no way of moving back and keeping my files and installed programs.
You know how many times i freaked out that the who computer just basically went away and haw many time i had to restart my pc, you're a life/time saver
This has been so helpful. Thank You! I've installed an STL viewer for windows explorer, which I could not get it to work somehow but could not find where it was so I could remove or uninstall it. And been causing the explorer to crash every time I clicked on an STL file. Thanks to your very helpful instructions I have been able to locate the offending add on and resolved the issue without needing to reboot my pc. Much appreciate it Leo 🙏 *Subscribed!*
Explorer in my Windows 11 keeps resetting (crashes and restarts) whenever I open about 10 folders with pictures in them. And by resetting I mean it closes all windows and starts up as if I just *restarted' the PC. An additional problem is that it restarts but does not open any of my startup items - so I need to restart the computer anyway... and for those wondering the explorer keeps resetting with or without the startup items being turned on or off. This is a brand new computer and seems pointless to run disk checks or changing hardware configs it seems a poorly implemented Explorer task issue of some sort or bug. Any suggestion?
What if the problem is due to one of Microsoft’s own shell extensions? Dell technicians took over my computer by remote to fix one problem and then explorer starting crashing when I open ANY browser. There is no impact on performance and the task bar does not disappear. I only notice because of the reliability history. What should I do?
If things are working for you I would do nothing. If it's impacting you somehow, then I might look at a refresh/reinstall of Windows. But ONLY if it's actually impacting you.
sadly idk whats going on with my folder but when i even click it it loads but makes my taskbar disappear for a second and still not open nor can i open my start menu or search but thank you ❤
Wow the same thing happens to me!! I tried to do a fresh install and to factory reset it but my laptop simply didnt let me. If you find a solution please let me know
This video was helpful but the thing is my computer files is if I go anywhere but the home page it crashes. So basically all of the extensions are broken from what I know
when i opne file explorer and left click on anything it crashes closes down file explorer and the explorer (the BG one not the file) refreshes but file explorer closes down
my explorer works very fine but the problem is when im opening videos, pictures, text files, winrar... they take around 15-10 sec to open then if i try again with in 20 seconds they open fast in all this 20 second but when it passes and i try to open again it will be slow again and takes long to open, (exe files dont have this problem they open so fast) i uninstalled winrar and some other apps it doesnt appear to be the problem and i have disabled everything in shellexviewer and restarted explorer.exe and still same issue anyone could help please ? note: i also tried sfc and dism solutions nothing works i have tried all known solutions in youtube
My issue (explorer crashing) comes when I right click on an icon in the menu tree on the left hand bar, when i'm already in an explorer window (say accessing a drive), and telling another drive to "open in new window". Can you recommend a fix for that?
Just built a new Pc and are having a problem when right clicking either a folder(s) or file(s) which sometimes crashes windows explorer and I end up with all windows closed and back to my Desktop. This happens erratically, I can open say a music folder and highlight all the songs then right click, bang back to desktop. Repeat and right click works fine??? I would say right click works ok 6 to7 times out of 10. done fresh installs with Windows 10 Pro and Windows 11 Pro with exactly the same problem, Hoping a windows update might come up with a solution. Such an ordeal! I think I will call Microsoft...so what's happening is that for some reason, when I try to search withing a folder, it crashes...tried everything and no luck.
It shouldn’t, of course. But it can.

For me it was an Adobe Drive/Elements Context Menu causing the issue, disabled them and now works flawlessly, tnx!

What music program do you have installed? It might have added something to Windows File Explorer, as outlined in the video, that's causing problems.
What do i do if Windows Explore keeps crashing when i open it up on This PC?
Nothing i do fixes it.
I went to task manager and ended the file explorer now my screen is blank. It also can’t start a new task so I’m stuck.
Help!!😢
Reboot. Or CTRL+ALT+Del, run Task Manager, and it has a run option for you to run explorer.exe.
I'm still learnin'. Thanks. JimE
