    Before going into the video, I want to point out that the demo stations only had you opening packs. There still hasn't been much of anything regarding the actual game part of the TCG Pocket app. I feel like we should have more than we've been shown. That doesn't mean it will be good or bad. It simply means I will be cautiously optimistic.

    I think most people will end up playing the Pokemon TCG GAME this way. This is how the game will get a bigger base. Most people dont have 1 hour a day to play on TCG Live, but we all have 5-10 mins for Pocket! And the card game seemed for most people to be about collecting and not about playing the game! So this might end up beeing the best way to play the game and build a collection in the end.

    The problem I have with any TCG is it is 80$ for a competitive deck now , then the next rotation goes around and you need to drop another 80$ for the next deck.

    • @reedhat6440
      @reedhat6440 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      In Yu-Gi-Oh it's almost $300, for a fully competitive deck. I am highballing, but not that much. To buy a fully competitive deck every couple of months for $80, is not that bad, at least compared to Yu-Gi-Oh

    Another smart edge to Monetization for this game is with Trading. They could charge for trading like Pokemon Go, but honestly, they don't even have to do that. If there is an ability to have multiples of these special alt-art cards, people are going to want to chase and hoard cards they don't want just to have something they can trade for the rare card they DO want. Now I don't know how they are going to set up a marketplace for that, if they plan on doing that at all... but I will say, even in the local or friend trades, that is going to boost purchases among the playerbase.

    I think Pokémon Duel was just ahead of its time. Mobile apps just didn’t have longevity or the popularity that they had until Pokémon Go came out. I think Pokémon Go has since helped create an entire space for mobile games to thrive and Duel was just before it’s time. I played a loved it from launch all the way to its close. I think if Pokémon Duel were released today it would be a huge success

  • @fruit3193
    @fruit3193 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I don't think it will flop, but I do think you're severely overestimating its future success. It's got a novelty aspect to it that will probably run out of hype after a few months or so.
    There's also the potential that the new style of gameplay could do well, but I feel like that's not as likely as something like Duel Links succeeding. Duel Links has a sizable singleplayer campaign, whereas we've only seen pvp for TCG Pocket. Every card game, whether played digitally or physically, has some core group of people who enjoy the metagame, play competitive all the time, etc., but those types of people tend to be the minority. Compare it to Master Duel, which is trying super hard to get people interested in competitive (via different rule sets and changing ban lists), but the game also has a lot of singleplayer content to cater to people who want a more casual experience. If Pocket can't get enough people interested in competitive, and/or it doesn't supply a singleplayer mode, then I don't think it will be massive at all.

      the app description in the app-store confirms "solo challenges and going against the computer. I also think what Pokemon Pocket lacks in a campaign experience (if it doesnt have one) is made up by the Collecting and trading experience which is what they have been showing in advertisements like a digital binder, or display boards it seems you can create with different card styles. as well as trading favorite cards will be a big thing like he mentioned it will rekindle the playground trading experience idk if it will be PoGo big but i do like the thought of my manager/coworkers coming up to me like "Oh you got this card? u wanna trade?? " in 2024 as an Adult LOL

    As a fan of Pokemon Masters and knowing about their bundles, if Pocket is anything similar then most bundles will be outrageously expensive but then there would be the reasonable priced bundles but with the caveat that you must log 20 individual days (either 20 days in a row or a total of 20 days across weeks and months) at the bundle is drip fed
    Example
    In Pokemon Masters there is a £/$4 bundle for 3k gems but you get 1k of that 3k right away and you are given 100 gems every day until you reach 3k. How many Gatcha units do you get with 3k? 1 multi pull of 11 units

    I think pocket will be very successful, but not even close to the level of pogo, pogo was a cultural reset, it brought a lot of people that were not pokemon fans to the franchise, pocket just dont have the same four quadrant appeal, it will be successful with pokemon fans, it can be as big as that marvel cardgame which I heard is huge right now, it may even be as big as clash royale or some other mobile games, but pogo was like a second pokemania, it was constantly on the news, which made it even more popular, to think pocket can be even close to that I do agree is delusional, sorry, Toby

    They should rather focus on their main game TCG LIVE. It is still in a catastrophic state. Pocket is just a pure rip-off, not even the cards are the same as in real life. It's just a disgrace what the Pokemon company has been doing for the last few years. I can only advise anyone not to spend money on Pokemon Pocket to collect cards. I also collected almost all the cards in Pokemon TCG Online and spent a lot of money and then they just replaced Pokemon TCG Online with LIVE and all the cards from older series are no longer available. An absolute SCAM and that's exactly what will happen again in Pocket. For me, it's just a rip-off of naive customers. And when I look at the comments here, there are a lot of them and that's exactly what they know how to exploit.

    I'm just glad the TCG doesn't have all the types, and the match-ups are all wonky. That was, and still is, a huge turn-off for me. Took me out of the scene entirely. Which has saved me a lot of money over the years. There are a lot of Pokémon that are neglected in the TCG as well, so people who don't have good representation of their favorites will also be out. For those reasons, I can't see this being as big as GO. But, for the reasons you mentioned, I can definitely see it being successful.

      Pocket has nothing to do with the real Trading Card Game. It is a slimmed-down version and does not even contain the real cards, but modified cards that do not exist in real life. Have I already mentioned Pay2Win? I can only recommend that if you want to spend money, then buy real cards.

    I feel like this TCG Pocket is more balanced for Pokemon Card Collectors... and I feel like there are much more card collectors than card players, especially professional players. That said, it's also more balanced for them in that the game is easier for them to play and get into as well. I might be over-assuming, but it seems like it might take the aspect of play similar to how the Pokemon TCG video games simplified the TCG in the past as well as something like Yugioh duel Links where it feels like you are playing the regular game even though it is a condensed and simplified version. (And Duel Links was super popular, not sure if still is, but likely so)
    I don't know if it will do anything to TCG Live though... I think that is the big question mark and just the assumption that the devs are smart enough to not have the two games trip over each others toes... That said, I also already signed up for Pocket's preregister, so I'm all in.
